Investing in My Harem in the Apocalypse Makes Me Stronger

Chapter 142 - 2nd Echelon Advancement Mission

Sponsored

His previous Advancement Mission had already forced him to kill a 2nd Echelon being while he was still Unranked.

Considering the kind of missions the System had given him so far, Cain had little hope that the next one would suddenly be easy.

As if responding to that thought, another notification appeared before him.

[You have reached Level 50, the maximum Level of the 1st Echelon.]

[Further Levels cannot be obtained until you complete your Second-Echelon Advancement Mission.]

Cain’s attention immediately shifted to the next panel.

[2nd Echelon Advancement Mission]

[Destroy the World Gate Core responsible for the Zombie Race invasion of your World.]

[The World Gate Core must be destroyed while you remain within the battlefield.]

[Mission Progress: 0/1]

"..."

Cain stared at the words in silence, his expression gradually went blank.

Of course.

Out of everything the System could have chosen, it had given him the objective sitting at the very end of their entire World-Class Mission.

They had not even reached the Southern Anchor Gate yet.

The other Spatial Anchor Gates still remained elsewhere inside the Corridor, and only after destroying all of them could they properly deal with the World Gate Core.

Cain cursed inwardly.

’Why the fuck do I always get the troublesome missions?’

He looked at the panel again, but nothing changed.

’Can’t I just kill something nearby and advance normally like everyone else?’

Cain released a long breath through his nose.

At least the mission did not force him to change his plans.

Destroying the World Gate Core was already their ultimate objective inside the Invasion Corridor. Whether the System had given him this Advancement Mission or not, Cain intended to reach it eventually.

Now he simply had an even stronger reason to get there.

A violent crack of Lightning suddenly erupted across the battlefield.

Cain dismissed the notification and turned his attention toward the others.

The first wave of 1st Echelon Zombie Race soldiers had already reached them.

Bluish-white Lightning flashed across one side of the battlefield.

Cain folded his arms, his annoyance over the Advancement Mission faded as anticipation took its place.

"Let’s see what you guys can do."

Another thunderous crack answered him.

Ron disappeared.

The ground beneath his previous position burst apart as Thunder God Overdrive flooded his body with Lightning Mana.

Bluish-white arcs wrapped around his limbs while he crossed the battlefield at terrifying speed.

Several Zombie Race soldiers turned toward the sound.

Ron was already gone from their sight.

Lightning Flash changed his direction instantly.

He appeared beside one of the soldiers and drove his spear through its chest.

The blade punched through armor and flesh before stopping deep inside the zombie’s torso.

Ron twisted the embedded weapon, Lightning erupted from the spearhead.

BOOM!

The zombie’s torso burst apart from within.

Its corpse was blasted backward, but Ron maintained his grip and violently tore the spear free as the body was thrown away from him.

A sword came down toward his back.

It struck nothing as Ron had already vanished again.

Cain’s golden eyes followed his movements without difficulty, but several people farther away were clearly struggling to keep track of him.

This was no longer the Ron who had once relied almost entirely on his speed to survive.

Each burst of acceleration caused Lightning to gather around the spear.

Thunderclap Momentum continuously accumulated power from his movement, while the weapon itself responded to the growing electrical energy passing through it.

Ron could clearly feel the difference.

A grin spread across his face.

"Fuck, this feels good!"

Several nearby zombies immediately turned toward his voice.

Ron noticed them.

His grin widened before driving the bottom of the spear into the ground.

Lightning erupted outward.

Bluish-white currents raced across the black-gray soil as his skill (Thunderstorm Domain) spread around him.

The atmosphere inside the affected area changed immediately.

Lightning Mana filled the surroundings as thin arcs flickered across the ground and crawled through the air.

Even those standing outside the Domain could feel their skin prickling from the electrical charge.

One of the zombies rushed toward Ron.

A bolt of Lightning descended before it could reach him.

CRACK!

The creature’s body stiffened violently.

Ron appeared beside it and swept his spear across its neck.

Its head immediaetly separated from the body.

Ron was already moving toward another enemy before the corpse hit the ground.

Inside the Thunderstorm Domain, his speed became even more difficult to deal with.

The Zombie Race soldiers tried to predict where he would appear.

They failed repeatedly.

One stabbed toward a flash of bluish-white light and struck empty air.

Ron appeared behind it and kicked the zombie forward.

Before the creature could regain its footing, another flash carried him elsewhere.

Cain watched with growing interest as he noticed that Ron was not simply moving faster.

It was just that his entire fighting style had changed.

The combination of Lightning Flash and Thunder God Overdrive allowed him to constantly reposition himself, while the storm around him made it increasingly difficult for enemies to respond properly.

Meanwhile, the spear continued accumulating Lightning.

The glow around its blade became brighter with every movement.

A low hum began coming from the weapon.

Ron noticed several 1st Echelon soldiers gathering near the edge of the Domain.

His eyes immediately lit up.

"Perfect."

He lowered his body.

More Lightning surged through him as he pushed Thunder God Overdrive harder.

The ground cracked.

Ron launched himself forward.

A bluish-white streak tore across the battlefield.

Thunderclap Momentum continued accumulating force throughout the charge, and by the time Ron approached the clustered enemies, the Lightning concentrated around his spear had become violent enough to distort the air around the blade.

He thrust forward.

"Heavenly Thunder Dragon Spear!"

Lightning exploded from the spearhead.

The compressed energy surged outward and expanded into the form of a massive Thunder Dragon.

Its enormous jaws opened as the creature of pure Lightning tore straight toward the Zombie Race soldiers.

BOOM!

The zombie standing at the front was swallowed by the attack.
