The Vanguard V4 drove really smoothly and purred when you wanted it to.

The steering was responsive, the suspension smooth, and the cabin was soundproofed too.

Dexter entered onto the highway, his mind already shifting to his next destination.

Mira’s wheelchair and then a boutique with decent clothing and maybe flowery dress for Mira. He loved them on her, owning perfectly well she doesn’t like it. Her puffed up checks when she’s angry always reminds him of a angry chipmunk with red hair.

The standard hospital-issue wheelchair she had been using since their wedding was getting olds so he needed to change them.

Now that Mira had awakened her Spectral Arms, she was already attempting to move herself, but the old wheelchair’s wheels were stiff, requiring extra strength and precision.

He alredy found he was looking for earlier.

It was a tech boutique store (Arctech) next called Hexatech Innovations.

They specializing in arcane technology that mix modern engineering with arcane craftsmanship and he had found a product called the Neural-Linked Wheelchair.

According to the online description, the wheelchair came with a neural choker that, when worn, released a pulse that read the user’s motor intentions.

The wheelchair would move exactly where the user wanted to go, responding to subconscious directional impulses with zero lag.

Dexter set the GPS and drove.

Hextech Innovations boutique was a large building located in the city’s mid-district. It was all glass and polished steel, with billboard display showcasing rotating models of various Arctech. (Arcane technology)

Dexter parked the Vanguard V4 in the lot and walked inside.

A young lady who was a receptionist approached him with a professional smile.

"Welcome to Hexatech Innovations. How can I help you today?"

"I’m looking for the Neural-Link Wheelchair," Dexter said.

The receptionist’s smile widened. "Of course. Please follow me."

She led him to a dedicated section of the store where a sleek, futuristic wheelchair sat on a raised platform.

A slim, silver choker rested on a velvet display stand beside it.

Dexter examined the chair. It looked really elegant, light weight and not stuffy as Dexter would have expected.

Even the seat was padded with adaptive memory foam that adjusted to the user’s body shape.

"This is one of our flagship products," the receptionist said enthusiastically.

"The neural choker reads the user’s motor cortex impulses. The user simply thinks about where they want to go, and the wheelchair responds instantly."

She gestured to the wheels. "It can navigate stairs, both up and down, using retractable treads. It automatically detects changes in elevation and adjusts its center of gravity accordingly."

Dexter sighed and knew he was going to be drained once more as he asked. "How much?"

"One hundred and twenty thousand dollars."

Dexter blinked. Then blinked again.

$120,000. For a wheelchair.

He stared at the chair, then at the choker, then back at the chair.

One hundred and twenty thousand dollars just so a necklace could read someone’s mind and move them around.

He nearly laughed. For that price, he could push Mira himself for the next ten years.

*I’d rather be the one to push her,* he thought, shaking his head.

The receptionist, sensing his hesitation, quickly continued her pitch.

"Sir, if I may—the wheelchair’s functions go far beyond simple mobility. Allow me to demonstrate."

She activated a holographic display above the chair, showing a detailed simulation of its capabilities.

"The neural-link system also includes an automated toileting function," she explained, swiping through the display. "When the user needs to use the restroom, the wheelchair’s seat module reconfigures, safely transferring the user to a toilet fixture and then returning them to a seated position afterward. This process is fully automated and requires no external assistance."

Dexter’s expression shifted slightly.

"The wheelchair also contains a built-in emergency toilet system within the base," she continued. "For situations where a restroom is not accessible, the chair can process waste internally through a sanitization cycle, maintaining complete hygiene and dignity for the user."

Dexter hesitated. The price was still staggering. But the functions... were functionable. Mira might be slightly less embarrassed by this.

If Mira had this wheelchair, she could move herself anywhere in the house. Outside, bathroom, toilet.

Most importantly, she wouldn’t need him to carry her to the toilet or transfer her from the chair to the bed.

She would have her independence back.

Dexter sighed and pulled out his phone. "I’ll take it."

The receptionist beamed. "Wonderful choice, sir."

As she began processing the order, a middle aged salesman approached Dexter cautiously.

"Excuse me, sir," he said. "I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I’m guessing the person you’re buying this for is a friend or family member who is paralyzed?"

Dexter frowned at the man and his gaze turned cold.

The salesman quickly raised both hands. "No, no, sir—please don’t misunderstand. I’m not making light of the situation. I simply wanted to introduce you to some companion products that I believe would significantly improve the user’s quality of life."

Dexter’s frown eased slightly. "Go ahead."

The salesman gestured toward a large, rectangular box nearby. The box was sleek and white, with a glass front panel revealing what looked like a compact, vertical pod.

"This is our Self-Operating Human Shower System," the salesman explained. "It’s a Grade-One Arctech device designed to pair directly with the Neural-Linked Wheelchair. When the two systems are connected, the wheelchair can automatically transfer the user into the shower pod, where the system bathes them entirely—hair, body, everything—in under five minutes. Once the cycle is complete, the user is dried up dressed and then transferred back into the wheelchair."

He tapped the glass panel, and the pod hummed, demonstrating a series of internal spray nozzles and drying vents.

"It’s fully customizable—water temperature, pressure, soap type, hair treatment. And because it’s mana-powered, it uses less than two liters of water per cycle."

Dexter stared at the shower pod. His mind went back to every morning he had spent carefully lifting Mira into the bathtub, washing her hair, scrubbing her skin, drying her with towels—all while she sat there with her ears burning.

Dexter assumed she was humiliated by it.

If he had this machine, Mira could bathe herself. Privately. Without him seeing her naked or touching her.

The salesman, reading Dexter’s expression, pressed his advantage. He pointed to a smaller device beside the shower pod—a compact, self-contained unit about the size of a mini fridge.

"And this is our companion Portable Toilet System. It pairs with both the wheelchair and the shower unit, creating a complete personal care ecosystem. The wheelchair can transfer the user to any of these three systems—shower, toilet, or back to the chair—entirely through neural-link commands."

Dexter stood there, surrounded by three pieces of technology that could give Mira back her privacy, her dignity, and her independence.

"How much for all three?"

The salesman’s eyes widened slightly. "The wheelchair is $120,000. The shower system is $180,000. The portable toilet system is $100,000. As a bundled package, that’s $400,000 total."

$400,000.

Dexter exhaled slowly. Three Grade-One Arch-tech devices for $400,000.

It was an astronomical sum for Grade-One items. But these weren’t weapons or cultivation tools—they were Arctechs. Very expensive.

But the value of Mira’s dignity? That was priceless.

"I’ll take all three."

The salesman nearly vibrated with excitement. "Excellent, sir! I’ll process the full bundle immediately."

While the paperwork was being prepared, Dexter wandered through the store.

His eyes landed on a display of newer smartphones with enhanced durability, and expanded battery life.

He purchased four.

Dexter inputted his home address for delivery of the wheelchair system, shower pod, and portable toilet. The store confirmed that a specialized installation team would follow him back to his home to install the items.
