Chapter 125 | Mira & Dexter Almost…
"What happened to you?" she asked quietly.
Dexter frowned, confused. "What do you mean?"
Selene’s brows slightly furrowed. "I meant... Did something happen to you?"
Dexter blinked, suddenly remembering that he had broken through to the seventh stage of the Superhuman Realm earlier that evening. He smiled, trying to play it off. "Oh, I just had a breakthrough. That’s probably what you’re feeling. It’s normal for your senses to pick up a shift in mana when someone advances."
Selene remained silent for a long moment as she pondered but then, she slowly shook her head.
"No, that’s not it," she said firmly. "What did you do?"
Dexter’s smile faded. "What do you mean?"
"Previously, you were like a burning flame. But right now... all I can see is a... wildfire. Your aura has changed. It’s still calm but is extremely aggressive. Did you take any strength enhancing drug? You should know not to take those things.
Selene said with a frown as she warned him.
Dexter was stunned.
He hadn’t expected Selene’s senses to be so perceptive that she could actually see the shift in his bloodline.
He tried thinking of a reply but couldn’t come up with a plausible response.
Finally, he simply shrugged as he said casually.
"Maybe my body is just evolving and getting used to the changes. That happens sometimes when you break through."
He then changed the subject. "You should go inside and rest. Afterall, you’ve been cultivating all day. Even if your body is willing, your mind needs to rest."
He didn’t wait for her to respond as he stood up, gathered the plates, and took them to the sink. The sound of running water and clinking sound of the plates filled the silence.
Even with his back turned, he could still feel Selene’s focus on him. She didn’t remained there for about ten minutes, before she eventually stood up and quietly retreated to the bedroom to join Lyra.
’Are all my wives this scary? Sigh, Lyra is still the only cute one.’
Dexter sighed in relief, dried his hands, undid his apron, and went to the living room.
He flipped his palm and a Matrix core appeared in his palm. It was the Tier 6 Guardian Matrix Formation.
He took almost an hour to set the formation up and eventually he got it and then activated it.
Another invincible barrier appeared around the Ashford home, making two protective barrier.
At this rate, even a Peak Transcendent would have difficulty entering the Ashford compound.
Satisfied, he went back to his room to resume cultivating.
***
3’o clock AM.
The bungalow was silent but there was a few insect noises occasionally breaking the quiet.
Inside his room, Dexter sat cross-legged on his bed, quietly cultivating as mana surged directly into inner universe, filling up his 7th star nodes.
Suddenly, his eyes snapped open.
"Squeak..."
His enhanced hearing immediately picked up the faint sound and it was coming from the hallway.
Mira.
Dexter smiled helplessly.
She was trying her best to move quietly, but the wheelchair she used was old. Every movement of its worn wheels produced an unmistakable squeaking sound. In the silence of midnight, it was impossible to hide.
He already knew what she was doing.
Without making a sound, Dexter stood up and stepped out of his room.
Sure enough, Mira was slowly making her way toward the kitchen. Using her Spectral Arms, she carefully pushed the wheelchair forward, moving much more skillfully than she had a few days ago.
Hearing the bedroom door open, Mira turned her neck around.
Their eyes met.
She blinked once, her face expressionless, then simply turned away and continued toward the kitchen as if she hadn’t seen him.
Dexter couldn’t help but chuckle.
Without saying a word, he walked behind her and gently took hold of the wheelchair handles.
Mira didn’t protest.
Silence accompanied them as Dexter slowly pushed her into the dining room.
He stopped beside the table and positioned her where she usually sat.
Then he walked into the kitchen.
He reheated the food he had prepared earlier, arranged it neatly on a plate, placed a spoon beside it, and carried everything back.
He gently placed the meal before her.
"...Thank you," Mira muttered quietly.
One of her Spectral Arm picked up the spoon as she started to feed herself.
Compared to before, her movements were noticeably smoother. She no longer struggled with every motion, and feeding herself had become much faster.
Dexter watched quietly.
After taking several bites, Mira noticed he was still standing there.
She frowned.
"What? Is it fun watching the crippled girl struggle to eat? You can go back to sleep now. Thank you for your help."
Dexter suppressed his chuckle and shrugged. "I still have to wash the dishes."
He pointed toward the sink.
"If dirty plates are left overnight, they’ll attract cockroaches and other insects."
Then he looked at her with an innocent smile.
"You don’t want a cockroach wandering into your room, do you?"
Mira’s expression immediately changed.
She glared at him, knowing fully well he was implying something.
"Do you think I’m scared of a mere cockroach?" she shot back.
Dexter fought back a grin. I’m just saying..."
He leaned slightly closer.
"So if you suddenly found one crawling onto your bed..."
"...or hiding underneath your pillow, you wouldn’t be scared, right?"
Mira glared at him.
"You better not have any stupid ideas. I’m warning you."
Dexter immediately raised both hands in surrender.
"Relax. I was joking."
Mira let out an annoyed huff before returning to her meal.
Knowing she would be uncomfortable with him standing there watching her, Dexter went back to his room as he resumed cultivating.
Even with his eyes closed, his enhanced hearing remained focused on the dining room.
The faint clinking of the spoon against the ceramic plate continued for several minutes.
Eventually, there was silence.
Dexter smiled.
He stood and walked back into the dining room almost immediately.
Seeing him appear almost instantaneously, Mira chuckled. "You will make a perfect stalker, you pervert."
Dexter burst into laughter.
The sound echoed throughout the otherwise quiet bungalow.
Mira simply sighed and shook her head.
"Hmph."
Still smiling, Dexter wheeled her back toward the bedroom.
Once inside, he locked the wheelchair before carefully sliding one arm beneath her knees and the other around her back.
He lifted her effortlessly.
Mira body uncontrollably leaned against him.
As he carried her toward the bed, the top of her head rested lightly against his chest.
Then—
Her lips accidentally brushed against the side of his neck.
At that exact moment, Dexter’s entire body stiffened and his heart actually skipped a beat!
Almost unconsciously, he lowered his gaze but at that exact moment, Mira looked up at him, their faces 3 inches away from each other and their lips just 3 centimeters away from each other!
Both of them stiffened as their breathing froze as they gazed into each others eyes, neither of them spoke.
Time itself seemed to slow.
Dexter found himself lowering his gaze as he stared ar her her soft, rosy lips.
For a brief, dangerous moment...
An overwhelming urge he couldn’t control possessed him. And at that moment, his one true wish at that moment was to consume those sumptuous lips and kiss her deeply.
The temptation came so suddenly that it caught him completely off guard.
Just as he leaned a fraction of a centimeter, the Serenity Band around his wrist emitted a faint calming warmth.
Instantly, a cool sensation washed over Dexter’s body and the hotness he was feeling calmed down. helping him regain control before he could do anything stupid.
He slowly looked away.
Mira’s cheeks had already turned a delicate shade of red and she hadn’t said a single word.
Dexter pretended as though what he had almost done wasn’t him.
He carefully laid her onto the bed, adjusted the pillow beneath her head, and gently pulled the duvet over her body.
"...Goodnight," he said, his voice husky.
Without waiting for a response, Dexter turned and quickly left the room.
