Chapter 135 | Sigh, Women Are So Confusing

Dexter continued warming Selene’s body until he was certain she was stable. He slowly withdrew his hands, extinguishing the Abyssal Emperor Flame, and exhaled a long breath of exhaustion.

He had been battling for the past hour and rushing here without resting, along with being worried about Selene, which added to his exhaustion.

’Thank God I came early. I don’t know what would have happened if I’d been a minute later.’

He almost slapped himself.

In the excitement of the monster outbreak, the emergency alert, the argument with Mira, amongst other things, he had completely forgotten what he planned to do after the meal.

He had planned to inject Selene with the new Grade-3 Eternal Frost Suppressant Serum after breakfast.

But after the sudden emergency, it escaped his mind, leaving Selene vulnerable to another attack.

The old serum had worn off days ago. The new one sat in his storage ring the entire time he was fighting goblins, completely forgotten.

It was his fault—all of it.

If he had been more responsible, taking five seconds to inject the serum before leaving, Selene wouldn’t have nearly frozen to death.

His jaw clenched, and he sighed as he slowly stood up, intending to leave the bedroom and let her rest.

But the moment he shifted his weight, a small, icy hand shot out and grabbed his arm.

Dexter froze.

Selene, still fast asleep, pulled his arm toward her with surprising strength. She hugged it tightly against her chest, wrapping both of her arms around it and pressing her cheek against his skin, clinging to him like a child holding a teddy bear.

Dexter was stunned. He immediately dialed back the active, visible flames of the Abyssal Emperor Flame. Still, he kept the internal heat radiating from his body, knowing she needed the warmth to stave off any residual frost energy.

However, a major dilemma presented itself.

His entire body was caked in blood, sweat, and gore.

He had just returned from a battlefield, and his clothes were torn and stained with green goblin blood and his own red blood.

Mira slowly wheeled her self into the bedroom, using her spectral arms. She glanced at Selene clinging to Dexter, then her crimson eyes traveled down Dexter’s body.

"You are injured," she stated indifferently.

Dexter looked down at himself. He had almost forgotten about his injury.

There was a deep gash on his ribs from the Level Three goblin commander; although it had stopped bleeding, it was still healing.

Dexter smiled awkwardly. "It’s just superficial injuries. Don’t be worried about me."

Mira immediately snorted, her eyes narrowing. "Who is worried about you? I’m only worried you’re going to end up getting infected. Once you’re infected, you won’t be able to take care of us any longer. "

With that, she turned her wheelchair around and began to leave. As she passed Lyra in the doorway, she paused as she said, projecting her thoughts. "You should help him clean his wounds. I can’t."

Lyra nodded her head slowly. ’Okay.’

Her voice echoed in Mira’s mind. She then turned and headed toward the kitchen to fetch the medical kit.

While Lyra was gone, Dexter turned his attention to the other person still lingering in the room.

He frowned. "What are you doing here?"

Tessa smiled, casually leaning against the doorframe. "I was playing chess with Grandma Lucy opposite your house when she sensed something. I thought they were under attack, so I came in. I didn’t expect this scene."

Dexter’s frown deepened. His eyes locked onto her with sharp suspicion. "The formation didn’t stop you?"

Tessa innocently blinked her green eyes. "What formation?"

Dexter stared at her. She looked completely genuine, but he knew she was lying. The Type-5 House Protection Talisman was fully active and intact.

It restricted even space itself, and even Transcendent Experts can’t enter.

Yet Tessa had walked right through it as if it didn’t exist, without breaking the formation.

*What kind of monster is this girl?* Dexter thought as his face turned slightly grim.

He had no idea what this little girl’s intentions were, but if she wanted to harm them, not even the formation could help.

But now wasn’t the time to interrogate the baker’s daughter.

"Thanks for your help," Dexter said. "And thank Grandma Lucy for me. You can leave now."

Tessa blinked as she stared at Dexter for a moment, then nodded and pushed off the doorframe. "Anytime." She flashed him a brilliant smile, turned, and skipped out of the room.

A minute later, Lyra returned with a white medical box, a bowl of warm water, and a clean cloth. She walked towards him and sat down on the edge of Selene’s bed.

Lyra opened the medical box and began pulling out supplies: a bottle of ethanol, cotton wool, and bandages. Then, without asking his permission, she picked up a pair of scissors from the kit.

"RIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!!!"

Dexter’s torn, blood-soaked shirt fell away in two pieces, dropping to the floor and revealing his muscular but bloody body.

Dexter blinked. "...That was my nice shirt."

Lyra ignored him completely. Her expression was frigid, her dark eyes entirely devoid of their usual softness.

She soaked a piece of cotton wool with antiseptic ethanol and reached out, gently but firmly pressing it against the deep gash on his ribs.

Dexter winced, his muscles tensing involuntarily as the stinging alcohol bit into the open wound. "Ah..."

Lyra didn’t react.

She continued dabbing the injury, cleaning away the dried blood, then she moved to the cuts on his chest,

She then dipped the clean cloth into the warm water, wiping away the layers of green goblin blood, sweat, and dirt that coated his torso, face, and arms.

Despite her gentle care, her face remained incredibly cold.

’She seems mad.’

Dexter blinked as he saw her face.

Dexter scratched his chin awkwardly, then spoke.

"I’m sorry, all right? See, it’s nothing serious. It’s just superficial wounds. "

Lyra did not reply, nor did she look him in the eye. She just kept wiping the blood from his abdomen, with her jaw clenched tight.

Dexter sighed. He racked his brain, trying to figure out how to break through this icy wall of anger.

Suddenly, an idea popped into his head. He flipped his right hand, and a golden light flashed.

A Celestial Moon Pastry materialized in his palm, perfectly baked, glowing faintly with mana and smelling absolutely divine.

"Here," Dexter said softly, holding it out to her. "I bought this for you on the way."

Lyra’s nose flared. Her dark eyes locked onto the pastry, and for the first time since she had entered the room, they lit up.

The pastry looked incredible, and the aroma was tantalizing. Just smelling it, she could tell it would be the best thing she had ever tasted.

She stared at it, her eyes wide with desire for a while. But then, Lyra shook her head violently.

She tore her gaze away from the pastry, glared at Dexter angrily, then grabbed the bowl of warm water and the medical kit, stood up, and marched out of the room.

"Bang!"

The door slammed shut as she angrily walked out.

Dexter was left sitting on the edge of the bed, shirtless, covered in half-cleaned blood, with a pastry in his right hand.

On the bed beside him, Selene shifted, hugging his arm tighter and letting out a soft, contented sigh.

Dexter looked down at the pastry, then at the closed door, and let out a long, heavy sigh.

"Women," he muttered under his breath. "So confusing."

[A/N: Really thought she would accept the pastries uhn?"
