Chapter 544 - 541: Coordinating from Within and Without
The expressions of the Wolf Hunting Squad members changed slightly upon hearing Lin Xinghai’s order.
What had just happened was so sudden and intense that they had only been focused on their own survival. They had completely forgotten that other special operations teams were also in the underground base.
If any special ops teams were still on the third basement level, it was safe to assume they’d already been honorably sacrificed.
Even those on the second basement level were likely in a terrible state, perhaps even critically injured and on the brink of death.
Judging by the difficulty of their own escape, the chances of any other teams making it to the first level were incredibly slim.
Of course, according to the mission roster, some teams weren’t required to go down to the third basement level.
Furthermore, when they had forced their way into the armory to plant the bombs, they’d had Huang Tianyu send an advance warning to the other squads. They must have evacuated immediately; at the very least, they wouldn’t have remained on the third level.
Even so, the overall situation was undoubtedly dire.
With a solemn expression, Huang Tianyu opened his wrist-mounted computer, composed a message, and sent it out.
Ever since he’d left a Back Door in the central control system and shared it with the other squads, they had a means of communication, even deep inside the enemy’s underground base.
In the current situation, it was their only way to communicate. He was confident that if any teams received the message, they would reply immediately.
Things unfolded just as Huang Tianyu predicted. Almost instantly, a reply came in—it was a distress call.
That was just the beginning. After that first message, Huang Tianyu received several more in quick succession.
The more he read, the grimmer his expression became.
"A total of six teams have replied. Four of them sent distress signals. Two teams are on the first level and are fine for now. As for the other three, we’ve lost contact with all of them," Huang Tianyu quickly scanned the messages and reported to Lin Xinghai.
At that moment, all eyes turned to Lin Xinghai, filled with a sliver of hope. If anyone there could save those special forces teams, it was him.
"Forward this information to the Military Department and see what they suggest," Lin Xinghai said. "Make sure to tell them there’s a Divine Demon Realm expert down there."
The moment Lin Xinghai mentioned the Divine Demon Realm expert, the others remembered the terrifying presence in the base. Almost in unison, they dismissed any thought of a rescue mission.
’What a joke! That’s a Divine Demon Realm expert. Running into them wouldn’t be a rescue, it would be suicide.’
Huang Tianyu organized the distress calls from the other combat teams and forwarded them all to the Military Department.
They soon received a reply from the Military Department.
The message was simple and direct: the Military Department would dispatch a Sharp Blade Camp to attempt a breakthrough of the enemy’s blockade and rescue the special forces teams. They asked if the Wolf Hunting Squad could coordinate an attack from the inside.
"Tell them no problem," Lin Xinghai replied without hesitation. "They can start their assault in our direction now. I’ll take out all the enemy emplacements on this side."
"Are... are you sure you want me to send that, Captain?" Huang Tianyu asked, swallowing nervously.
He knew that on the battlefield, some words carried a different weight. To a certain extent, it was like signing a military pledge; failing to deliver would be disastrous for everyone involved.
"What? You think I can’t handle it?" Lin Xinghai shot him a sidelong glance, his tone sharp.
"Ahem! That’s not what I meant," Huang Tianyu explained hastily, not daring to say another word.
He immediately relayed Lin Xinghai’s message to the Military Department.
"Alright. Taking out all of their emplacements is a daunting task. I’m going to need your help," Lin Xinghai said, turning to the other members of the Wolf Hunting Squad as soon as Huang Tianyu sent the message.
Hearing this, the members of the Wolf Hunting Squad grew instantly excited.
From the start of the mission until now, they had basically been on the sidelines. Now, it seemed they were finally being entrusted with a serious responsibility where they could put their skills to use. How could they not be excited?
"Captain, just give us our orders! We guarantee we’ll complete the mission," Fu Yuan declared, thumping his chest.
"Excellent! Your mission is to reload my magazines as fast as humanly possible to maintain my rate of fire," Lin Xinghai said.
They hadn’t brought an auto-loader with them this time. Every bullet had to be pressed into the magazines one by one. Doing it by hand was much slower than a machine.
That was why he needed the entire team to support him.
The members of the Wolf Hunting Squad, who had been gearing up for a fight, were all dumbfounded by the order.
’What the hell kind of order is this? We didn’t even get bullshit assignments like this back when we were green recruits.’
But when they saw Lin Xinghai’s dead-serious expression, which held not the slightest hint of a joke, they were simply stunned.
After giving the order, Lin Xinghai didn’t give them any time to process it. He immediately raised his Tearing Rifle, switched it to full-auto, and began firing into the distance.
RAT-TAT-TAT!
The gunfire snapped the dazed squad members out of their stupor.
Almost subconsciously, everyone looked in the direction Lin Xinghai was firing.
They were at the exit of the secret passage, which put them behind the enemy’s defensive line.
As Lin Xinghai opened fire, one enemy emplacement after another along the defensive line went silent. Whether it was a Heavy Machine Gun nest, a heavily fortified Mortar position, a well-concealed bunker, or even one of the fearless Combat Robots—the moment Lin Xinghai targeted it, it was silenced.
The sight left everyone dumbfounded. They knew this entire area had been converted into a comprehensive network of defensive fortifications.
For many of the emplacements, you could only see the muzzle of a gun; the person behind it was completely hidden.
Normally, the only way to clear them out would be to bombard them with artillery and blow the positions to pieces.
As for taking them out with Firearms, you’d need a sniper, at the very least—and even then, they’d have to wait patiently for an opening.
But Lin Xinghai’s method looked ridiculously casual, like child’s play. He was simply spraying bullets, often at targets where he couldn’t even see the enemy combatants.
But this seemingly careless approach worked flawlessly. A single burst of gunfire, and the position would fall completely silent, as if everyone inside had been killed instantly.
The scene was bizarre—so bizarre that not a single one of the seasoned special forces soldiers could understand what was happening.
