Tabernacle ① - Luu's House Supper
The 15th of the Green Moon, when a meeting of the Chiefs was to be held at the call of Gazran-Rutim.
Having finished my business in the lodging town and my study group at the Lou family, I stayed in the cabin and was asked to help me make dinner.
Tour-Din and Yun-Sudra, who were also in the study group, have been asked to return with Chim-Sudra in Gilru's luggage and to play the role of messenger to Ai-Fa. It is because today's meeting was sudden that the circumstances have not yet been communicated to Ai-Fa.
But since we were originally scheduled to go down to Kimmus's Tail Pavilion today, Ai-Fa will be back early as well. Afterwards, Chim-Sudra and I were asked to come to Luu's house in separate luggage, and Chim-Sudra joined Lyelpham-Sudra and others to return to their own house, and the steps were clustered together in that manner.
"I hope Birdu-Fow and Baym's parents get back before sundown, too, but now I don't know"
Lyelpham-Sudra, who stumbled onto the entrance to Kamado's cabin, is crushing like that. Another residual group, the hunter, was keeping an eye on me on the road.
"That way, they can all come with us in their luggage. If you walk, you'll be quite a distance away."
"Mm-hmm. But well, until we started dealing with tototos, that was the obvious story.... but I rarely had a chance to visit a family home that wasn't even a blood family before."
"Yeah. I'm sure that's on the side that time was a waste and I didn't feel like going away. If you think about it, Totos is probably the greatest credit for deepening the bond of the people by the woods."
If it weren't for Totos, calling Graf-Zaza or Dari-Sauti to the settlement of Luu would also be considerably harder. Especially in the north, the settlements are four hours away on foot.
"But using Totos doesn't change the fact that northern settlements are far away. If the Graf-Zazas return late, I guess it will be a lot later to reach the settlement of Luu"
"Right. If we don't let Totos pull the luggage, we might be able to get there in a moment or so... but still, we'll be arriving pretty late."
When I said it that way, Lyelpham-Sudra turned a candlestick of her eyes outside.
"... apparently, it wasn't"
"Huh?" I looked back and pulled myself aside as Lyelpham-Sudra vacated the place.
A giant figure appears in the space.
"In response to a message that he wanted to hold an urgent meeting, he ascended. Is this where the chief Donda-Lou's partner is?
"Oh, you're hissing. Welcome to the house of Lew, Chief Graph-Zaza"
Mother Meer Ray, who was working with me on Kamadoku's number, smiles briskly.
Graf-Zaza nodded "um," looking around the inside of Kamadu's cabin with burning eyes.
He is wearing the fur of a giva from his head, and he is a queer figure. Its surface is almost irreplaceable in the shadow of Gibba's upper jaw, but it is nevertheless a formidable force to fear. If I did this, I would be able to renew the thought that my son George-Zaza and others still had a much more intimate appearance.
"... That's awful, Asta at Fa's house. You seem to have been in a lot of disturbance, but you look like you're in a lot of trouble."
"Ah, yes. Thanks to you... er, you had an early day."
"... the sunset is nearly here. I don't think it's too soon."
I'm just normally exchanging words, and I'm going to get barometric pressure. Then, Mother Meer Ray followed me from the side.
"But for what it was all of a sudden, I guess it was early. I guess the Graf-Zazas were already in the woods when I went over here to tell them about the meeting?
"Oh. But today was quite a harvest, so we were to return to the settlement once and for all while the sun was high. That's when I heard about the meeting from the women, so only me and the man who gave it to me got the job done early."
"Oh, I see. Whatever it is, it's more than anything we can have dinner with. I'll try to prepare a fine dinner, so stay tuned."
"Um," he nodded, then Graf-Zaza glanced at me again.
"Today, we're talking about people from Fa's house joining the conference."
"Yes, I'm afraid Camua-Josh will probably come too"
"Mm-hmm. If Gazran-Rutim wanted it that way, then there's nothing different about me."
After stating so, Graph-Zaza seemed to have narrowed his eyes slightly.
"So... are you the only one today, Asta from Fa's house"
"Huh? If I were an i-fa, you'd be here after I finished my giva hunting job"
"It's not. You must have been talking about bringing in Din and Sudra women to train at Lew's house."
Regardless of Yun-Sudra, Tour-din can't imitate herself without the forgiveness of Graf-Zaza, so of course the story has been communicated a long time ago.
"Yes. Until just now, we were both together. After the study group, we went back to our homes."
"... well. Well, it's not much of a normal story to keep other houses."
To state so, Graf-Zaza flinched herself with a fleshy shoulder.
"Then let the other Chiefs wait in Luu's house. I should have kept the knife with you, right?
"Oh. My parents should be back soon, so please relax."
When Graf-Zaza disappeared, I felt the air in Kamadu's cabin loosen slightly. Now both the northern clans are Luu families who have reconnected as compatriots, but it still seems that the temper brought about by Graf-Zaza creates some tension.
"Graf-Zaza was a sign that he didn't seem in a very good mood. Am I still causing frustration because of the nobles of the King's capital?"
Lyelpham-Sudra, who was pulling in to the side, is leaning her neck in a curse.
The voice was answered by Rimi-Lou, who was stirring the contents of the iron pan.
"But you seemed in a good mood at first! I'm sorry you didn't have Tour-Din, huh?
"Hmm? How could Graf-Zaza be in a grumpy mood without Tour-Din?
"Rimi doesn't even know that. But when I looked around and started talking about Asta and Tool-Din, I was suddenly upset. I thought Tul-din was here, and I was surprised that he wasn't there."
Limi-Lu is so much better at reading emotional subtleties than I am. That's how Listening to Rimi-Lou, Lyelpham-Sudra also nodded "I see".
"It does seem to me that over time Graph-Zaza has increased the signs of calm. Outreach, maybe you're right."
"Yeah! Tour-din is Zaza's blood family, so I'm sure Graf-Zaza wanted Thur-din's food!
Rimi-Lou is laughing with an uncontrolled face.
Watching that smile, I also got to crush "I see" inside.
◇
"And, well, that's what happened yesterday."
It is the afternoon of the following day.
Finish your business in Accommodation Town and study at Fa's house today. Encouraging the creation of Gato Chocolate, which is finally nearing completion of the recipe, Tour-Din said, "Yeah?" He was circling his eyes.
"Yes, no matter how much, I don't think Graf-Zaza would be overjoyed by such a thing. There are many very fine Kamadoku numbers in the Lew family..."
"That's not true. I mean, Kamado-numbered. I don't know, I was just talking about wanting to eat Thur-din's dish?
"Yes, no, that's not true... I was just given a wedding feast the other day in the settlement of Zaza..."
"'Cause that was over half a month ago. No wonder I missed Tul-din's cooking."
Speaking that way, the women who were just encouraging me to train in boiled dishes said, "Yes!" He raised his voice.
"Graf-Zaza is not surprising because he really likes Tul-din's dishes. We talked about adding Asta to the meeting, so I guess I was hoping Thur-din would be with me."
It was the young ladies of Lid, a blood tribe to Thur-din. If I remember correctly, this girl was also tasked with preparing feast dishes at the feast last month along with Tour-Din.
"But that makes you bend the navel just because you don't have Tour-Din is like a toddler. Graf-Zaza is such a fine hunter, it kind of makes me look cute"
"Yes, no, so maybe it's a misunderstanding or something..."
"In the Lou family, will there still be a meeting of the Chiefs today? Is it difficult to take Tool-Din on the spot?
To the words of Lid's women, I nod, "Yeah."
"On my way home earlier, I checked with Meer Ray-Lew, and if that's the case, he asked Tour-Din to help me with any work. If Tour-Din wants, what do you say?
"Yeah? Well, it's an important meeting, isn't it? There's no way I can disturb such a place..."
"That being said, even the family of the Lew main house is crowded during dinner. It's only after dinner that the meeting is real. I'm gonna be late on my way home, but I can send you in our luggage, so why don't we talk about Limi-Lu or Lara-Lu somethin 'after dinner?
Tour-Din had made his eyes black and white.
"Yeah, but... it's not a very normal story to keep the other houses, Graf-Zaza also said, is it? There is no profound reason why I should keep the Lew's kamen..."
"But if it's not an opportunity like this, you're not going to get a chance to eat Thur-din's food, are you? Especially on the spot, there are Donda-Lou and Dali Sauti. I wonder if it would be a good opportunity for you to know how many of Fa's neighbors have raised their arms as a number."
That's what I told Tour-Din to laugh at.
"Well, as far as I'm concerned, the best reason is that I want to please Graf-Zaza. We've been having a lot of troublesome problems lately, and we're all getting depressed, so I want you to feel a little at ease with some delicious food."
Tour-Din looked up at my face with all his body twitching.
"... will Graf-Zaza rest my heart in dishes such as mine...?
"That's right. If it's a delicious dish made by a blood family, I guess it's extraordinary. For a forest folk who weighs the edge of blood, that's natural, isn't it?
…………
"If this is our mistake and Graf-Zaza scolds us for not imitating anything extra, I'll explain the situation properly."
When I said that, Tour-Din shook his puffy head with a "no".
"Then I will be reprimanded responsibly.... So can you take me to Luu's house too...?
"Yeah, sure."
Tour-Din, though weak, grinned.
I'm sure that within Tour-Din, too, the desire to be a force for Graf-Zaza sprouted. I just wanted to believe that Graf-Zaza and I should never reprimand Tool-din for being so healthy.
(Whatever, it's two nights in a row of Chiefs' meetings. The degree of seriousness is pretty good too... everyone should be getting depressed)
We were supposed to continue our meeting late last night, but that didn't end the conversation. What action should the people of the woods take to deal with the disturbances brought about by the auditors of the Wang capital - after all, it was not such an easy agenda.
But I do see the light. The sight of the brilliant Gazran-Rutim is finally visible to us too. Another night, if we all had an unobtrusive exchange of views, we would surely have paved the way to go.
It will be since Cycleus was alive that the Forestside Chiefs have been bothering their heads so much. I want to give those chiefs some peace. It was also of the utmost importance to me.
◇
That's how me and Tour-Din got off to the settlement of Luu.
The time is half the hour of the four. The study group was to cut it off a little early in time for the preparation of the Luu family dinner. Lyelpham-Sudra and the others have accompanied us, naturally.
The Lew family apparently invited their families to a study group on their own, and just by the time we arrived, the women attending it were on their way home. Using the luggage truck, it seemed that slightly distant families such as Lilyn and Maam and Mufa were also gathered.
"Welcome to Lew's house. Nice to meet you today, Tool-din."
When I headed to Kamado Cabin, Mother Meer Ray welcomed me with a smile.
"Nice to meet you," Thur-din says, drooling his head.
Only once did Tour-Din keep the Lew family's kama. It was supposed to be only at the dinner party of rapprochement that invited the people of the town.
But that's a feast. This is the first time I have participated in a dinner I normally eat in the house. By the woods, interrupting dinner in other houses was a rare story.
"Well, we used to call Asta all the time, so we got used to it. I don't need you to hesitate, so just stick to your usual supper."
"Yes. I understand that."
So we were just getting ready for dinner.
Today's Kamado number is three: Mother Meer Ray, Vina-Lou, and Lara-Lou. Rayna-Lew was supposed to be out of the job for half a month because she couldn't get dinner together in connection with her trip to the Kimmus Tail Pavilion.
"I'm sorry about Rayna, but if we can't have it together, we can't let her prep dinner. He seems to enjoy himself, so I'm sure he doesn't have a problem with it."
"Yeah, Rayna-Lew sounds like fun these days. I'm sure the experience of helping Kimmus's Tail Pavilion will help Rayna-Lew in the future."
"Oh, I'm sure you do. But I guess helping out with the inn is also a bummer, huh?
"Yes, it's about half a month, so it looks like your innkeeper is feeling a lot better."
Nevertheless, two days ago it was Milan-Math who was about to evict the soldiers of the King's capital. It hasn't developed into a strange noise since, but it has been one of my great feelings.
(For that matter, we have to settle for today's meeting.)
Thinking that way and wandering over what was going on with Tour-Din, Lara-Lew was smiling and working with him. These two are close to each other.
"Speaking of which, it's been almost a year since I've met you! Nah, it feels like ten years ago!
"Oh, yes... at that time, I really, really just bothered you..."
"You don't apologize for such a long time ago! Mostly, you didn't do anything wrong!
I'm sure what you two are talking about is the day we met a year ago - the Parents' Conference at the Sung family. Lara-Lew was supposed to help Tul-Din, who was about to burn himself with iron pot broth.
"You looked dark like a sick man back then. If I lived in the Sung family, that would be normal!
"Oh, yeah, yes..."
"But you're feeling better now! He seems to be doing well with the people around him."
Lara-Lew is a very emotional girl. Lara-Luu, who shows her white teeth like a naughty boy, and Tour-Din, who smiles like a soldier, were very heartbreaking to watch.
That's how as time passes, the sun drips out the window.
Graf-Zaza showed up when dinner was finally nearing completion.
"He asked me to go out to Kamado's cabin. What is it for?"
and Graph-Zaza, who held his mouth there, sparkled his black eyes.
"Tour-din, why are you here?
"Welcome to Lew's house, Graf-Zaza. Because of this, I called you to eat the Tul-din dish, which is my blood."
"Ha, yes," Thur-din also voiced, following his mum Meer Ray, who laughed aloud.
"I apologize for the unsolicited imitation before I got the forgiveness of Graf-Zaza. Will you allow me to have dinner with you too...?
Graf-Zaza stared at Tour-Din for a while, then abandoned him, "Take it personally," and just walked away.
"Donda, you're so heartless that you can't beat your father. If you let them eat delicious food, they won't complain."
To Lara-Luu's words, Tour-Din had nodded "yes".
Mother Meer Ray is also slapping her back to help her with Tool-Din.
"Then shall we take it from the finished one to the hall? Everyone will be waiting hungry."
We carried dinner for five of us.
The hall is already packed with all the members except Kamua-Josh, who will be attending from now on. That was enough for the spacious Lou main hall to be filled.
Firstly, the three chiefs who will participate in the meeting, as well as the heads of Gazran-Rutim, Birdu-Fou and Baim, Ai-Fa. Graf-Zaza and Dari-Sauti offer one at a time. And the main family, Grandma Ziva, Grandma Tito Min, Limi-Luu, Sati Ray-Luu and Kota-Lu. Plus the five men of Kamadu number, for a total of nineteen.
But, well, this number is all it takes for three people to go down to the lodging town: Giza-Lou, Rudd-Lou, and Raina-Lou. Otherwise, it was the number of people that could have caused overcapacity.
"Thank you for waiting. Tool-din from Din's house helped with Kamadu's turn today, so I think he's ready for a better dinner than yesterday."
"Tour-din?... Oh, the women who helped me in the settlement of Sauti before. Since the banquet in Castle Town."
As Dari-Sauti laughed, Tour-Din bowed his head in a frightened manner. When the hunters chosen to crusade the Lord of the Woods stayed in the settlement of Sauti, I and Tour-Din were also to accompany them as Kakadu.
And then, although they were in different positions, they also face each other at the Castle Town Ball. I didn't really remember the way they were talking, but there was a lot of friendship.
"I've heard a lot about you ever since. Now they've raised their arms as Kamadoku numbers no less than the women of the Lou family. This is something to look forward to."
"Oh, no... oh, I hope it's in your mouth"
Lara-Lew had to sit in a predetermined seat as a family, so Tour-Din was supposed to shrink next to me.
Wait for everyone to take their seats before Donda-Lou raises a heavy voice.
"It's unusual to invite a guest for the evening. After this, we'll have to exchange words again until we're satisfied, but let's get our bellies filled first."
The pre-meal wording is solemnly chanted. And when all these hunters were assembled, their weight was also great.
But after that, it's a fun dinner. Limi-Luu was always in that role because Rud-Luu, who raised his voice first, was absent.
"Looks delicious today! Which dish did Tour-Din cook?
"Wow, I took on that... juice dish"
"Oh. Our second daughter specializes in juice cooking. I asked Tour-Din to help me with the inn today."
After Mother Meer Ray's words, Dari-Sauti took a plate of juice dishes.
"Hmm. That's a pretty intense scent. It seems a lot more painful."
"Yes. I was able to use Gibba's organs, so I stuck Tarapa's soup."
That was supposed to be the first specialty dish Tour-Din got.
It is a juicy dish that you will want to call an Italian-style mothpot, with plenty of giva guts and lots of tarrapa and spices to eliminate those odors.
"Is that Giva's gut? That's going to take a lot of work. I don't really get to talk about it because there's enough meat in the sauty."
And Dali-Sauti, who soaked Tarapa's soup with a gentle laugh, glanced at herself like a little.
"Hmm. That's pretty spicy, after all"
Stated that way, now mouth the ingredients. Dari-Sauti's eyes then clearly opened to surprise.
"No, this is delicious. Amazing delicacy. It's hard, but more than that, I don't know... um, I can't seem to find a good word for it."
"Really, yum! It's a little spicy, but you're easy to eat!
Everyone also puts their hands on a wooden dish of soup to the reaction of Dari-Sauti and Rimi-Lou. The young Kota-Lu was prepared with a thin flavor of soup divided by the stock.
"Oh, this is really delicious... it tastes like waking up..."
Grandma Ziva is also smiling with her face creeping up.
I looked more at Graph-Zaza as those eyes, almost hidden in the dripping eyelids, shed a very gentle light.
"I heard rumors, but this is a brilliant arrangement... you'd be proud too, Graf-Zaza...?
"Hmm. This Tour-Din has allowed me to accompany him to make sure Fa's house is accounted for. You're no less than the women of the Lou family, and you must be at the mercy of Asta of the house of Fa, so it's only natural to apply all that strength."
After speaking in a bottomed voice, Graf-Zaza also rinsed the soup.
Under the fur of Gibba, his eyes also open to surprise.
"Tool-din, is this... is this really what you made?
"Huh? Yes... of course, I owe you all Luu's hands..."
"But we just cut vegetables and giva guts, just like Thur-din said. I was taking care of the flavoring and the fire because it was Mi-na-Tour-Din!
Lara-Lew proudly states as she distracts her diluted chest. I guess you're as happy as you are about me to be praised for the skill of your good friend Tool-Din.
"But if it's a juicy dish of organ with tarapa, it's served again and again in the northern settlements. But it shouldn't have tasted like this."
"Ha, yes...... there are different ingredients prepared for the settlement of Luu, so let me use them. I think it tastes a lot different thanks to the dried seagrass, the oil of the reten, and the vanilla called ira and nahua"
The northern settlements didn't have that much ingredient in them, so I guess it had a simpler finish. It should have also made it even simpler to pass on recipes to the bloodlines who don't have that much cooking experience.
Of course still, it must have been a fine finish. Far back in the day, Tour-Din asked me to taste the dish and I was the only one to sign it.
"... that means we're using high-value ingredients that we won't get our hands on, right?
To Graf-Zaza's words, Tour-Din has become a very worrying face.
"... maybe it made Graf-Zaza feel bad...?
"Hmm. Whatever the Lew family grabs a copper coin for, it's not like I'm gonna talk. I'm sure he's gaining a lot of wealth from his business in the lodging town."
With that said, Graf-Zaza scratched the contents of the wooden dish.
Tour-Din has dropped his shoulder in a sober manner.
Then Lara-Luu, who saw him, hoisted his eyebrows and turned back to Graf-Zaza.
"Hey, because Tour-din made it more on his arm, don't you have that attitude?
"Let it go, Lara. You don't want to sound great to your guests."
As soon as Donda-Lou stood up, Lara-Lou said, "Because!" and let his mouth snap.
Then this time, Ai-Fa, who was quietly going on a meal, looked more at Graf-Zaza as he leaned his little neck.
"So, Graf-Zaza thought this sup was delicious?
"... I would never say anything like that."
"Right. But Tour-Din is like having this dish done for the bloodthirsty Graph-Zaza. If you thought it was delicious, could you say something naughty?"
It's very unusual for Ai-Fa to talk about the house in the margins.
Graf-Zaza rubbed his shoulders in a loud manner before stirring the contents of the wood dish with all the momentum.
"There is no way that Tour-Din can cook dishes that cannot be done. I know that, so I don't have to put it in my mouth."
With that said, Graf-Zaza let the empty wood dish be shown to Thur-din.
"Hey, it's not like we're done with a glass, is it?
"Yes! There's still some left in this iron pan."
"... then just give me that one"
"Yes," Thur-din widened his grin.
It was a smile that seemed heartily happy. Though only Donda-Lou is a solid graph-Zaza, I guess I could have guessed his insides from his words and deeds.
"Damn, you're the ones who can take care of them."
While I whisper and twinkle so no one can hear me, I'm also rubbing Tul-din's special soup. I stuck with my smile as I stared at the side of it.
"I agree, but even I-Fa would hide his feelings in public, wouldn't he? I guess that's the same thing."
Having made an extra statement, I was, of course, to be snuck up on my flank.
All in all, before the important meeting, it seemed to have succeeded in reassuring the minds of the chiefs.
