Chapter 282 - 215: You Are Chaos? I Am Too.
They were young men of some means from within Henry’s own fiefdom, so naturally, they were full of vigor.
When they saw Glock and his remaining forces flee, they all clamored to join the fight. They were eager to charge the enemy and show Henry how strong they were.
’Before, we were told not to fight because the enemy had too much Cavalry. Surely now’s our chance?’
"Let us pursue those fugitives!" a member of the Citizen Cavalry shouted.
"Yes, we can’t let them just get away!" another member of the Cavalry chimed in.
However, their request was denied by Selas, who had been left in command of the Cavalry.
Selas knew how valuable the Citizen Cavalry was; the death of even one of them here would be a heartbreaking loss.
They had yet to experience a true battle. They needed to start with skirmishes, like Light Cavalry, not a direct charge.
Especially on such a chaotic battlefield. There was a difference between being tempered by the slaughter and being sent to a meaningless death.
"No. Your mission is not now."
Therefore, the task of pursuing the Inferior Horned Beast riders fell to the steppe horsemen.
It would have been no exaggeration to call these one hundred and fifty-three horsemen lancers. Their equipment, mounts, and combat experience far surpassed their military rank.
For them, this mission was simply a chance to earn merit for free.
The steppe horsemen’s mounts galloped across the snow. They were incredibly fast, and soon closed in on Glock and his remaining forces.
These steppe horsemen were experienced and their horsemanship was superb. They knew how to maintain formation during a pursuit and how to adjust the angle of their Riding Spears while at a full gallop.
Glock and his riders felt the threat from behind. They glanced back to see Henry’s steppe horsemen rapidly approaching.
A wave of despair washed over Glock. ’Are the heavens themselves determined to destroy me?’ But he didn’t give up. He brandished the spear in his hand, urging his riders to speed up.
"Faster! We must be faster!" Glock roared.
’As long as I can get back to the main formation of the Inferior Horned Beast army, I’ll be safe! There’s still a chance! There’s still a chance!’
However, the steppe horsemen’s arrows were already flying through the air. Their precise archery sent some of the Inferior Horned Beast riders tumbling from their saddles...
That’s right—Henry had allowed the steppe horsemen to keep their bows, not turning them completely into Shocking Cavalry.
Under pursuit from the steppe horsemen, Glock and his riders were forced to scatter, hoping to divide their pursuers’ attention.
But the steppe horsemen weren’t fooled. They stuck close to Glock, knowing that the Inferior Horned Beast in the finest armor was the commander of this unit. Capturing him would be the greatest victory!
Unfortunately, Inferior Horned Beasts were not human. Even after losing their commander and leader, they would continue to fight until a new commander ordered a retreat.
Thus, the sight of Glock’s panicked flight had no effect on the Inferior Horned Beasts locked in combat with Henry’s army.
Although Glock cut a pathetic figure on the battlefield, he was, in the end, lucky.
Pursued by the steppe horsemen, he charged straight into his own army’s lines, saving his own life with the flesh and blood of his Inferior Horned Beasts.
Glock’s horse was injured as it plunged into their own lines and could no longer run. The act even trampled several Inferior Horned Beasts to death.
Glock, however, didn’t care about any of that; his survival was all that mattered. He tumbled from his horse’s back, gasping for breath, and silently celebrated his narrow escape.
Unfortunately, before he could even catch his breath, he realized the sounds of battle were growing closer.
’Huh? What’s happening? Did those cavalrymen really charge right after me?’
’Those cavalrymen are terrifyingly strong. I’m not sure my infantry can withstand their charge the way the enemy did.’
’The enemy Cavalry’s horses are armored!’
Glock immediately looked and saw a tall, dark figure leading the steppe horsemen in a charge toward him.
Warhammer, great axe, twin horns... He drew a sharp breath. ’It’s that monster!’
Every swing of Henry’s warhammer and great axe was met with the screams of Inferior Horned Beast soldiers as they fell.
Glock’s eyes widened in disbelief. ’How can a human possess such immense power? He’s cutting through the battlefield like it’s empty!’
The Inferior Horned Beast soldiers who had just encountered Henry began to panic; they had never seen such a ferocious assault.
Many of the Inferior Horned Beasts had no idea what was happening at the front. They would see a flash of crimson light, and then their world would go dark.
Glock trembled, clenching his teeth. The will to survive overcame his "instinct" to fight to the death without retreat. He couldn’t just wait here to die; he had to at least save his own life.
However, Henry’s army seemed to be everywhere. Their assault was like a tempest, giving the Inferior Horned Beast army no room to breathe.
Just then, his eyes fell upon a tattered war banner—the standard of his Inferior Horned Beast army.
’As long as I’m alive, there’s still a chance!’
His gaze was fixed on the tattered war banner. It was his only hope.
He scrambled up from the ground, ignoring the pain in his body, and rushed toward the banner.
The surrounding Inferior Horned Beast soldiers were fighting in the chaos, oblivious to their commander approaching the banner.
Glock snatched the war banner. Though tattered, it held an irreplaceable symbolic meaning for the Inferior Horned Beast army.
’I know that as long as I have this banner, I can rally other small bands of Inferior Horned Beasts. Even if I’ve lost most of my army now, I can start over.’
’As long as I can offer enough sacrifices to the Great One, as long as I can please that powerful entity, I’ll be granted a new army and new soldiers!’
’And this war banner... it’s the medium for my offerings to the Great One!’
Glock gripped the banner tightly and turned to flee the hellish battlefield.
But just then, a jolt went through his mind. A strange intuition made him turn his head instinctively.
He saw a pair of terrifying eyes, filled with a wildness and madness that seemed to pierce his very soul.
It was as if they held myriad powers, capable of corroding his mind and dragging him into their depths!
They were the eyes of that dark monster—Henry!
At that moment, Glock suddenly felt the mysterious power within him begin to surge, and a formidable strength welled up inside his body.
Before he had time to rejoice, he stared at Henry in shock, because he sensed Chaos Power emanating from him.
He was all too familiar with that power... It was the strength he had obtained from the Great One through sacrifice, the secret to his invincibility on the battlefield.
But now, to see this power manifesting in Henry left Glock utterly stunned.
He wasn’t just facing an ordinary southern human, but another being chosen by Chaos Power.
’This... How is this possible? Aren’t we Inferior Horned Beasts the servants of the Great One? Why would a human become one of the Chosen?’
Glock saw the crimson glow on Henry’s weapons burn ever brighter, as if responding to his will, craving more blood and battle.
An intense sense of indignation welled up in Glock’s heart. He refused to be defeated by someone else who had also been chosen by Chaos Power!
The wind and snow on the battlefield grew more violent in that instant, but all the clamor faded to a blur in Glock’s ears.
His vision narrowed to a single black figure—Henry.
Henry’s sudden sprint, like a black bolt of lightning, completely separated him from the Personal Guard struggling to keep up.
Now, Henry and Glock stood face-to-face, the very air between them seeming to solidify.
Henry also sensed the power on Glock. The aura of Chaos felt both familiar and exhilarating.
Facing Glock, Henry had an intuition: killing the Inferior Horned Beast before him would bring him immense benefits—not just victory on the battlefield, but a leap in power!
Glock gripped the war banner, feeling it snap and flutter in the wind as if echoing the power within his body.
’Either I defeat Henry here, or I lose everything forever!’
