Kuro no Maou

Episode 41: Humans and Demons

In the Pandora continent, besides elves and dwarves, species that look closer to monsters such as goblins, oaks and golems can also mix with humans to coexist and prosper.

But if you have the same look as them, the ferocious wild goblins that live with their instincts will be classified as monsters.

What matters to the inhabitants of Pandora is not their appearance, but their mutually understandable intelligence and reason.

But to the extent that the human-dominated Arc continent, and especially the teaching of the Crucifixion, is widespread, what matters is' man or not '.

Even the same people and race in the first place call each other pagans and kill each other because of the divine differences they believe in, it was impossible to tolerate other races whose religious differences, on the contrary, appeared as if they were different, at least in the present Crucifixion.

That's how I was born with the name 'Demon Nation', a disdain that brings together non-human species with intelligence, unlike wild monsters.

For those who believe in the Crucifixion, the 'Demons' are those who can speak alongside the monsters, and they will remember the joy of eliminating the 'enemies of God', without any abomination in killing them.

With such a strong sense of discrimination, the Daedalus invasion six months ago was carried out.

This is the first time that the Sinclair Republic humans and the Daedalus demons have officially contested each other.

But the Knights Two Thousand and the Daedalus Defense Forces were not essentially ‘battles’.

Known only as the Knights, their hearts and minds were like the bandits, whose gold and silver treasures were ours beyond the walls of Daedalus, and the way in which they fought the demons and stormed without insult or thought was the same as the bandits.

But not this time.

A strict chain of command was put in place, headed by an apostle and archbishop sent by his own country, and soldiers moving under it are not those who crossed to Pandora in search of wealth, but enthusiastic believers with a mission and a heart to dedicate the land to God.

Here, the armies of the Sinclair Republic, which led to the domination of half of the Ark continent, use their true power to fight the armies of the demons.

In the sky the Seventh Apostle Saliel and the Dragon King Garvinal had struck one horse, and in the earth fifteen thousand crusaders and twenty thousand Daedalus armies had been hit from the front.

"- Don't break formation!

Until His Excellency takes over the Evil Dragon, he can carry it with him at all costs!!

Maxwell, who handed over the armed scriptures and dropped Saliel off, joins the soldiers in the front row and struggles as they are.

It is what he calls the 'formation' that is a better fighting technique than the demonic tribe knitted by man.

Humans and demons speak the same words, fight with swords in their hands, and wrap their armor around them.

But there was a clear difference between the two ways of fighting.

That most prominently manifests itself in large numbers, or mass combat, like this one.

Basic physical abilities, or demonic superior to magic, are paramount to the power of the individual.

In the case of small groups, which can be called teams or herds, some degree of collaboration is possible, but there is no ability to manipulate and control groups of more than a hundred people, like hands and feet.

No, I don't have the idea of fighting in such a large group in the first place.

That is why even the Dragon King Garvinal, who built his country in one generation, has not commanded 20,000 subordinations, and is coming to a one-horse ride with Saliel.

Garvinal, who knows no man other than to live on the continent of Pandora, does not consider this situation in which the Admiral sets up a single strike against the enemy Admiral to be an anomaly from a human point of view.

For it is good that the mightiest of the demons shall reign, and it is not so rare that in the battlefield each general shall strike one horse.

Therefore Garvinal had no doubt whatsoever that Sariel would come to himself alone.

But in the world of man, where the powerful do not necessarily become kings, there is nothing but a single strike and other pastime.

It is not sane to say that a commander who commands soldiers is single and plays with enemy generals.

For he who leads soldiers in the army of man is not strong, but superior in command.

Regardless, there are military executives called generals and others who are highly capable of fighting alone, but that's just to say that they also have command skills.

Therefore, while Sariel is the Crusader General this time, depositing all command with Lüchrome, his deputy commander, and challenging him to strike a single battle with the enemy general was an oddity in the midst of oddity from the point of view of military law.

For the Horn and the Demon Nation, the ability to fight is what is required of the individual, and is respected to the fullest extent that he can be king.

Thus, even the great army, which extends to 20,000, operates in almost three ways: assault, defense or retreat.

As in this case, if the king gives the order to assault, then all he has to do is assault, and even if he does, his soldiers will only force and attack.

It is not until the king is disputed, when he becomes a manifest disadvantage, or when the enemy breaks away.

In other words, the Demon Nation thinks about the opportunity to fight, but as for the battle itself, it does so only with the momentum left to the power of the individual.

But this is not how humans do it.

In this other world, there are also magical beings, and there are those who boast overwhelming combat abilities, like Sariel.

But the way it is is is basically the same as the original world where Chrono was.

Humans alone are inferior to other wildlife in their physical abilities, but their wisdom and actions in populations make them the species that reign at the apex of the organism.

Although still at the level of medieval civilization, human beings from different worlds, like the world of Chrono, had braided strategies, tactics, and military laws, as well as various techniques of combat.

And one of them is the art of fighting efficiently in groups, or 'formations'.

In this battle, in the disadvantage that the Demons outnumber individual power differences and that there are as many as five thousand soldiers, the Crusaders are able to endure that terrible attack because they retain the 'formations' deployed by rigorous training and precise command.

"Your choreography is complete and you can shoot!

"Okay, now! Flame Spear (Ignis Chris Sagitta)!!

An army of magicians standing neatly in a row across the side, waving their wands and unleashing magic.

It is the infantry men with long spears who buy their chanting time and defend themselves.

A Daedalus soldier who has been ignited by the simultaneous firing of a flaming spear (Ignis chrissagita) that erupts as a wall of flames, rains arrows for further pursuit.

"Damn, you're still a living monster!

Burned by fire, he receives an arrow, and still shakes up his sword and cuts it off, but pierced by a long spear, he is finally desperate.

Tough vitality can be shown in various ways, but still a formations of strong cohesive crusaders do not break a strong guard.

The formation that is dampening the Daedalus soldiers' assault on this front line is the 'Squad'.

Vertically and horizontally, a line of soldiers lines about the same length, looking square from the top.

It is capable of handling attacks from any surface, a formation that lacks mobility but is very defensive.

There are three things that make up this formation: Spearmen, Archers, and Mages.

The spear used a large rod-shaped weapon (Paul Weapon) of about six metres, known as Pike, which in the Arc continent was powerful as an anti-cavalry weapon.

It is now of great help to intercept a large Daedalus soldier who is an infantry but shows a heavy cavalry-like assault power.

This spear soldier is densely squared and surrounded by archers armed with long bows and crossbows, as well as magicians who have mastered the magic of ranged attacks.

If Chrono had seen the current deployment, he would have thought it was almost the same as the Spanish.

Replace this magician with a musket gunfighter and he will remain the Spanish side of the real world.

Most importantly, in the different worlds where magic exists, magicians are not only replacements for musket guns, but also all-purpose soldiers who have said enhancement (boost) and healing (heel) to increase their abilities.

But while it is a crusader that maximizes the power and struggles of both infantry and sorcerers, it must be a defensive party to the Daedalus army opponents with a strong army.

No matter how many demons had no concept of formation, the height and number of their individual abilities, with the defense of the formation, the effect was limited until they temporarily stopped the assault.

"Sir Saliel, please give us a miracle..."

LUCROM, archbishop and deputy crusader commander, groaned looking up at the heavens where Saliel fought the Dragon King to death on the clouds.

Ars and Lüchrome have a background in liberating areas along the western border of the Sinclair Republic, where pagans once spread.

The work was appreciated, and Ars went to the Cardinal, and Lychrome to the Archbishop, to take office young.

Even though he was still a teenager, Lychrome's experience of war and victory over pagans had been amply demonstrated even in this place of contention with the devil tribe.

But even with fifteen thousand elite soldiers, organized by devout Crusaders, in addition to Lychrome, with proven experience and excellent command, he still lacks the strength to defeat the mighty Daedalus soldiers.

There is no better way to lead the Crusaders to victory than to defeat the Dragon King Garvinal, the general generals of the Daedalus army.

An antagonistic, no, crusader that is becoming slightly disadvantaged, it was Saliel, the commander-in-chief, who could overturn the situation, and it was only Saliel, the seventh apostle, who could single-handedly defeat the dragon king with comparable power to 10,000 armies.

It was now entrusted to one little white girl by the name of Sariel to follow which fate the Crusaders would grasp the triumph of glory or expose their wretched defeat.
