Kuro no Maou
Episode 397: A Man Named Gregorius (1)
At present, the crusaders of the Pandora Continental Expedition are divided into three main regiments.
Called the 'First Army' is the first 15,000 corps sent to Pandora, led directly by the Seventh Apostle Saliel of the Commander-in-Chief of the Crusades. The strength lost in the battle of the Goldran has at the moment been restored by the new replenishment dispatched by Cardinal Ars.
The next called 'Second Army' is an army dispatched in large numbers by the Church in the name of 'reinforcements' shortly after Saliel's First Army occupied Daedalus. A large part of this Second Army was a soldier assembled by Cardinal Mercedes, famous for his intense power struggle within the Church with Cardinal Ars.
The First Army, in the form of an outward, half-handed concession, entrusted this Second Army with the occupation of Daedalus territory outside the capital. That went really smoothly, except for what I did in a rural village on the western edge called Alsace.
And the last 'Third Army'. This is a coalition of Sinclair nobles who arrived late, struck at the forefront of Pandora reinforcements by the Church's Cardinal Mercedes.
Now as the Second Army gave way, the Third Army was to be entrusted with the new aggressor, Sparta, the vanguard to attack there.
Recently, in Daedalus territory, the rebel and resistance movements of the remnants of the army were noisy, and the third army was unable to carry out a medium-sized Sparda attack.
But the other day, with the elite units of the First Army, led by the Seventh Apostle Saliel, reports of the destruction of the rebels who attacked the Fourth Laboratory in the media ruins by no time of completeness, ended the rebellion.
This finally moves the Third Army into the Spartan invasion. But despite the already early winter season, voices are also secretly whispered questioning the actions of third armies that carried out large-scale invasion operations.
Rumors of the Church's conspiracy to conveniently drive the Third Army, an army of nobility, to destruction, or of the Count, the general, being challenged with cuckoo because he was boned by the beauty of Saliel, truly flow to the capital, Daedalus.
"Ah crap... or I don't care anymore..."
There is one middle-aged man here who exhales such a tedious stupidity.
The place is in the capital, Daedalus, a crucifix church built for newly arrived settlers. It is almost as small and miserable as the new church built in the central section around the royal castle due to its location in the corner of the city, which is mostly rapidly constructed. We are already plagued by the winter gap winds, such as this chapel.
Such a shoddy church, this middle-aged man - Chief Priest Knolls - was left to himself.
"Yeah, damn it! If it wasn't for the demons of Alsace, I'd be..."
Good thing no worshipper is around, kicking a worn-out bench while rolling a scratch out loud. The altar of the chapel naturally lists a cross, a symbol of white God, but there does not seem to be enough room for the current chief priest to care about God's eyes.
After the sound of kicking the chair sounds vain, the chapel is dominated by even more vain silence.
"... damn"
Knolls Priest Chief. Until about six months ago, he was a general who led the occupying forces of the Second Army. Occupy troops, albeit large regiments that rise to their thousands. He was greatly promoted because he appreciated Knolls' extensive experience in action and martial arts to date.
Occupy went as well as any other unit. A woman named Sylvia, a deputy secretary, had a hell of a secret of an eighth apostolic spinner on top of her bad mouth, but she had no problem advancing the occupation, rather, she was an excellent worker.
Everything was going well. Not until that dark-haired, demon shows up.
"Why am I doing this..."
It was a huge breakdown. With the help of the Eighth Apostolic Eye and the Eleventh Apostolic Mass, which dealt with just over a hundred adventurers and inflicted untold damage, we finally, yes, really finally... occupied such a small rural village.
Your responsibilities as a general cannot be unquestioned. It wouldn't be left, it couldn't have been.
But Knolls would be a lucky man. If the Crusaders had been in a more chopped situation, they must have been held accountable and executed.
That's the left transition. Whereas there is life, neither is the status of chief priest stripped, nor is he thus given a single position. The treatment of a general who drove thousands of his men to death is sweet, too.
That's why you can't be satisfied with the status quo. Knolls had a dream. More frankly, there was greed. If it comes out, the gold and the honor will remain in your thoughts. If you are not aristocratic by birth and therefore grow up as a clergyman, roughly everything a person wants will come true.
It was the wicked desire of the priesthood, but it was also something that many who named priests commonly held. In that sense, Knolls is an ordinary man.
And for such a normal man, the chance he took off once will never come around again. There can't be an opportunity to take back the great failures we made once.
Knolls had already understood. He said he was going to spend the rest of his life in a small church in his hometown. Even if the Crusaders have now successfully conquered all of Pandora, they will not have any left in their favour. I can't let you get involved.
This place should not seem as if it were a prison built to trap itself.
But that day, the door of the prison opened suddenly.
"How are you? - Long time no see, Chief Priest Noles! How have you been?
One man has stepped into a dim chapel as he pushed the badly erected door open giggly.
"What, Bishop Gregorius!?
In that frigid tone, a clever fox-like detail. It is a magnificent coat of law, with a suspicious appearance and atmosphere, like a con artist, but undoubtedly indicating the position of bishop in its skilfulness.
There is no mistake in seeing, he is the commander who deposits the Second Army of the Crusades, the prophet Gregorius.
"Hey, I'm sorry I came all of a sudden, but nobody's coming in a place like this anyway, and I was free, okay?
"You're right...... but what exactly are your requirements today"
With his head down, Knolls thinks. No way, I'm not supposed to be here to punish myself any more, first of all for reassurance.
Hope next. This bishop can free himself from this idleness with only a whimsical voice. Conversely, there can be further left transitions. If you are bad, you may be flown into the d countryside of Daedalus territory and pushed to imitate the pioneering people who are only named priests of the village.
Half the anticipation and anxiety swirl inside my chest, where my muscles have only faded a little because of my failure to work out.
"Soon, you know the rumor that the Third Army will start attacking Sparda?
"Yeah, of course. That said, it's only about rumours, but..."
You can't be in a place like this and gather accurate information. No handouts, no manpower. This is even more vain because it used to lead thousands of distributions.
"No, that's all you need to know. So, actually, I didn't think I'd join you in this Sparda attack. I was wondering if you'd join me."
"True and Awesome!?
"Happy to hear a quick, colorful reply"
Gregorius with a nimmari and a nasty grin. But now Knolls looks like a saint's smile.
In the first place, I'm a man of arms. As long as you have the chance to stand on the battlefield, as much as you want - such expectations and hopes inflate instantly.
And I guess the bishop wanted that reaction, too.
Honestly, this man is suspicious. He wields the two names prophet himself, and most importantly, he looks really suspicious. It's a man named Gregorius who doesn't hide anything suspicious, who shows suspicion straight away.
"Now you can add this Wonder Knolls to your troops, so it's awesome!
"That's a quick and helpful story. Hey, this assignment is harsh inside, so it's hard to get a candidate."
It should be seen that there is no one better suited to the task than there is no one who raises his hand to take on a harsh task.
Still, it is a great opportunity for the Knolls, who cannot abandon their ambitions. I thought I didn't have a chance, so I finally came around.
"So thank you, Chief Priest Knolls, huh?
"Ha, I swear to God, you will always be there to see it work, Bishop!
