Chapter 319 – Vampires’ Rampage.
[1 month ago, before the civil war in the Warmur kingdom has ended.]
[City of Dirug]
*YAWN*
"Man... I know that is peaceful and all... But there is straight up nothing to do now." – said the city guard on top of the wall.
"Hey. I’m glad that we have nothing to do." – said the man who appears to be a mage.
"Honestly speaking, we no longer have these annoying monster attacks any longer and it also seems that the Warmur kingdom corrupted rulers will be dealt with, meaning that there won’t be a war."
"Pretty much, we don’t really have any work to do."
"..."
"I don’t know about this." – said the guard.
"Did you heard about vampires?"
"..."
"You mean those news that the vampires started revealing themselves publicly in our nation, as well as the fact that there are rumors about the vampire taking over the kingdom?" – asked the mage.
"Yeah... Honestly speaking, there are a lot of people saying that these rumors are false and that somebody is intentionally spreading these false rumors around." – said the guard.
"And what you believe?" – asked the mage.
"...Honestly, I think somebody is plotting something." – said the guard.
"It may be different nation who knew beforehand about vampires being here and they are trying to cause chaos and destruction."
"If that is the case, there maybe they are planning another war."
"Huh... So, you are saying that the vampires of the empire maybe good guys?" – asked the mage as the sun was about to completely set.
"Well... I haven’t met any yet, but the fact remains that they had apparently helped us all this time proves something." – replied the guard.
"I think we shouldn’t jump to the guns just yet and truly understand them."
"Maybe they are different from the other vampires?" – said the guard as several moments later the sun finally set and the night had arrived.
"...Welp, our shift is over." – said the guard.
"Want to grab a drink?" – said the guard as he started walking away from the edge of the wall.
"Well, yeah." – replied the mage as he reached with his hand towards his nape.
"Still, those vampires still somewhat bother me though." – replied the mage as he started walking behind guard.
"Welp, I’m not surprised. I said myself that we should give them a chance, but I’m still holding up my guard just in case." – said the warrior as he and the mage reached the small tower on top of the wall that was guarding the set of stairs that was used by the guards to get on top and get off the wall.
"We shouldn’t-"
The guard put his hand on the doorhandle and opened up the door... He saw something that he wasn’t expecting.
The next guards who were supposed to replace him and the mage were being feasted on by what it looks like pale humans that had their entire faces covered in blood.
"W-"
And before the guard could even say anything or draw his weapon, the mage who was behind him suddenly leaped at him and bit him right into his neck.
The warrior was completely caught off guard, straight stunning him out of shock... And before he was given even time to recover, the two pale figures who were just feasting had rushed right at the guard, instantly closing the distance and stabbing the guard with their daggers.
"Tch. You are making too much mess." – said the mage as he let go of the guard’s lifeless body.
"Don’t worry, each of the stairs has been taken over and we had dealt with anybody here." – said one of the hooded figures who had a set of vampiric fangs sticking.
"... If that is the case." – said the mage.
"Wipe out all the guards and don’t let them raise the alarm."
It was out of nowhere.
Before the guards could even realize, a countless number of vampires surged inside of the wall as well as from outside, with some of the guards there turning out to be vampires in disguise.
The city night was quiet... But that was on the surface.
Unbeknown to the people inside, the entire wall that surrounded the city was taken over.
And in the next moment? Slaughter.
The vampires descended onto the city, slaughtering anybody they could find.
The entire city was flooded with blood almost instantly and people panicked.
Some of the citizens managed to escape the city thanks to the gates being open.... But most of the people?
All dead.
As for the news of this incident? It spread like wild fire everywhere.
The feral vampire attack at City of Dirug.
There was truly no way to suppress these news... And because of that, it didn’t took long at for the operatives working for the emperor and the vampire leader to relay the information as soon as possible.
"..."
"Shit." – said the emperor as he and the vampire leader had a private meeting in the emperor private office.
"The people who escaped were let out on purpose." – said the vampire leader named Korwan.
"According to what they said, it seems that the all of the gates were left wide open... They said something like guards opened up before they were killed... But there is no way that is the truth."
"They are using the victims to spread around the news about the vampire attack."
"..."
"And the problem is, that it was really vampires who attacked us." – said the emperor Gustav.
"Fuck. I possible expected them to use vampires of their own to mess things up... But a large number of them?"
"How they hell did they managed to slip this numbers without us finding out when we were on guard against that possibility!?"
"..."
"I honestly don’t know... But I have few theories." – replied Korwan.
"Honestly speaking, there was no way that they could normally slip in with such large numbers."
"Even if we had traitor amongst our mists, the boarders were multi secured."
"So just one or two high ranking traitors wouldn’t do it."
"Especially with boarders being now tightly secured and even watched over by my men."
"...If that is the case, there could be only way they could had gone past our security and enter our nation."
"Teleportation."
"A long range one."
"!"
"You are saying that they just went past the boarder and right into our nation?!" – asked alarmed emperor.
"Yes... It is unknown if they had some help from inside, like the slipped in somebody... They could had done it before the fake rumors were spread around and we in turn were forced to increase our security."
"Shit. So, you are saying that they have a way to get inside without us noticing?" – said the nervous emperor.
"...I think so... Still, there is another thing I’m worried about." – said the vampire.
"Some of the vampires that attacked the city were apparently wearing a guards’ uniforms."
"Were they turned into the vampires... Or... Were they just hiding."
"?"
"Wait, but that shouldn’t be-"
"!?"
"The device!"
[The vampire camouflage device]
[A.K.A VCD]
[A special device that was created by pure breed vampire by the name of Porai Kuris.]
[It is a small disk like device.]
[This device is surely implanted inside of the body, attaching the nape area.]
[This device has simple effect. A temporarily mutation that causes the target, A.K.A to have its vampiric features restrained while also causing their skin color to get brighter, making it look like the vampires are humans. The device only works unfortunately on the human vampires and not the other races.]
"You are saying they had gotten their hands on those things?! HOW?!" – asked alarmed emperor.
"..."
"They weren’t stolen." – replied the vampire.
"I’ve had my men check the storage room where they are being kept... But we haven’t found any abnormalities."
"And there is no way they could had taken down our operatives who were using these devices, in the great numbers without us realizing."
"...Are you saying they had managed to manufacture their own versions of these things?" – asked emperor Gustav.
"It seems to be the case."
"We don’t know if they took somebody down and stolen the device in order to reverse engineer it... I’ve asked Porai about it and she said that it would be hard to do something like that, since that device despise being small is extremely complicated."
"What about the factory that produces these things? Maybe they have stolen the crafting recipe?"
"The recipe is extremely highly guarded and to make sure that nobody could even reverse engine it, a special factory was made that would automate the entire process."
"In other worlds, no people are allowed to work at it expect Porai and few of the people that work for here."
"But it couldn’t be anybody out of them."
"..."
"In other words, the enemy managed to reverse engineer the whole thing with only few samples in order to not make too much noise that would reveal their intention... And not only that, they also have some means of teleporting the vampires right into our nation without noticing."
"..."
*Sigh*
"I think I maybe know who could be behind this."
"Yeah... Me too." – said the vampire as the two men wore alarmed expressions on their faces.
"The main suspect who could had possible done both of these things."
"The Ku’juo kingdom may had started making their move."
