Chapter 1279: Car Accident
-
Jose Floyd sped all the way from the airport to the Imperial Garden Hotel, flooring the gas pedal like he didn’t care about his life.
Camden, who had been left far behind and had to grab a taxi, stared at the car shooting forward ahead of him, his gaze dark as he dialed his young master’s number.
"Young master, slow down! It’s already raining, and it’s nighttime—your visibility isn’t as clear as in the day. Driving like this is dangerous! You mustn’t..."
Beep———
Jose Floyd directly cut off Camden’s call.
As Camden watched the car racing ahead, his heart in his throat with worry, a call from Jorge Saxton suddenly came in.
"Camden, where are you and Jose now? Jose isn’t picking up his phone!"
Staring at the speeding vehicle in front, Camden spoke in a deep voice, "Young Master Saxton, the young master is right ahead of me. He’s driving so fast my taxi can’t even keep up with him! Young master, he—he—Young master!!"
Camden watched with his own eyes as Jose Floyd’s speeding car crashed into the rear of a slow-moving car in front, with a deafening bang!
"Young master!!" Camden roared.
The taxi driver in front was also scared senseless. Seeing the accident up ahead, he slammed on the brakes.
Camden hurriedly jumped out of the car, and, answering Jorge Saxton’s anxious questions from the still-connected phone, quickly shouted, "Young Master Saxton, something’s happened. The young master’s been in a car accident!!"
-
Imperial Garden Hotel.
Listening to the disconnected tone on the phone, Jorge Saxton felt his whole body go cold.
In his returning line of sight, at the center of the engagement stage, Steven Cooper, in a white suit, was leading Nicole in a light lavender gown toward the middle of the platform. Under the emcee’s introduction, Steven Cooper, elegant and composed, took the microphone and said with a soft laugh to both families’ relatives and friends, "Thank you all for coming to Nicole’s and my engagement banquet. We’ve delayed the Seys Family’s time quite a bit this evening, and I’m very sorry about that. But work comes first, and whatever Nicole does, she has my full support. I also hope that all the friends and family present can bless our marriage."
As soon as Steven Cooper finished speaking, the room erupted in applause and cheers. They used their clapping in place of words to bless the couple.
Jorge Saxton’s face darkened, and he lifted his leg to walk toward the stage.
Nicole stood at Steven Cooper’s side, the corners of her lips curved in a faint smile, like an orchid quietly blooming—serene and beautiful, with a gentle grace.
Under the emcee’s arrangement, the two of them each drank a glass of wine as a penalty to apologize to the guests who had waited so long tonight. The elders of the Seys Family and the Cooper family looked at the well-matched pair and all wore satisfied, relieved smiles.
All the guests present offered the two of them their sincerest blessings.
During the engagement ring exchange segment, Jorge Saxton, who had been standing in front of the stage dialing Jose Floyd’s number, had an extremely somber look in his eyes. Watching the two people onstage exchanging rings, looking at Nicole’s faint smile, he thought of his brother Jose Floyd, who had gotten into a car accident rushing back to stop this engagement. Jorge Saxton’s fingers clenched into a fist, and he could no longer hold back as he shouted up at Nicole on the stage, "Jose was in a car accident!"
People will always protect their own.
Jose Floyd was Jorge Saxton’s brother. Watching the woman his brother loved getting engaged to someone else, thinking of his brother’s car accident and not knowing whether he was alive or dead, the panic and anxiety in Jorge Saxton’s heart was beyond words. He lost his reason and snapped, glaring at Nicole in the center of the stage just as she was about to exchange rings, his voice low but laced with anger.
Nicole’s fingers were just reaching toward Steven Cooper’s hand, ready to put the ring on, when Jorge Saxton’s low shout reached her ears.
The tips of her fingers couldn’t help but tremble slightly. Nicole’s faint smile froze on her face for a few seconds. She lowered her gaze and said softly to Steven Cooper, "Brother Cooper, continue."
"Nicole, are you really—" Steven Cooper hesitated, giving her a look, his gaze falling on Jorge Saxton with a hint of deeper meaning.
