Feeling Dron against her skin made the world feel whole.

Tempest felt like she could finally breathe again.

Slowly, she dragged her hand down his arm and grabbed his hand. She squeezed his fingers and gave him a soft squeeze.

"Come on, let’s get you cleaned up and some rest." Tempest spoke softly to her mate.

He didn’t respond, his eyes were just locked on her face as if he didn’t think she was real.

She hoped no one would ask her to leave him again. This was a monumental failure in every way when it came to how long they could be without eachother.

And it’s not the only thing Tempest has to worry about. Dron might be here but that doesn’t mean that Hen and the rest of the humans inside have changed their opinions about him. It’ll take time. Tempest knows that.

Slowly she walks toward the gate with Dron in toe.

Hen steps forward. A grim look on her face.

"It’s over now. There’s no more threat." Tempest spoke but Hen didn’t back away. In fact, instead of Hen backing away several more of the human guards came to stand at her back.

"He isn’t welcome in here." Hen sneers at Dron.

Tempest knew something like this could happen. She reaches back and pats Dron’s shoulder. "Just wait here for a moment, I need to talk with them." Tempest scoured her brain to figure out what words she can say to prove to Hen and the rest of the people in the group that Dron and the alphas that were just trying to beat down her gate weren’t a threat. She took a step forward.

One step, that was all she was allowed.

"No, you don’t seem to understand." Hen spoke up. "You aren’t allowed in here either."

Tempest bristled. She wouldn’t say it out loud but her feelings were hurt a little bit. Tempest thought they had made some good progress when she was inside. She couldn’t call Hen her friend but at least an associate, someone that wouldn’t turn her nose up at the thought of talking to her.

"What do you mean I’m not allowed in either? I was just inside. This is ridiculous."

"That was before." Hen sighed and leaned her weight on her hip, "You found your little boyfriend. I’m happy for you. But you brought an army to our gate, Tempest. If you cross back through it with them at your back, you cross as one of them."

Tempest’s jaw dropped open.

"How in the world can you say I brought them? In case you’ve forgotten, it was you and your people who kidnapped me and my crew to bring us here. You were the one who broke our communication devices and caused all this panic. I didn’t bring anyone. You did." Tempest snapped back at her.

"Be that as it may, we told you that we couldn’t open the gates. You pushed it. Now the gates are open, you can either remove your army from our land or you can fight us to get in." Hen looked over her shoulder and instantly everyone was on guard.

This was not what Tempest wanted.

In fact, it was the last thing she wanted.

"Listen to me, you don’t need to do this. You know what’s going to happen if you try." She leaned forward whispering directly at Hen.

"Yes I do, but if you could understand what we just witnessed you wouldn’t be asking us to let them in here."

"What are you talking about? Tell me what you saw. What perspective could you have?"

"Your man came through god knows what obstacles to find you. Gathered a massive force of alien warriors. Figured out a way to try and break through our gates and I’m sure if you hadn’t been the first thing he saw he would’ve allowed all these warriors to come in here and look for you without regard to the life inside. You see it as romantic and I’m sure for you it must be. But to us, it’s our worst nightmare. They did all of this for one woman. It’s terrifying."

Tempest turned to look at Dron for a second. She knew that Hen was right. This could have very easily gone badly, but it hadn’t. "He stopped them. He was the one who got the rest of the alphas to stand down. You have to give him credit for that."

"I do. You’ve found an alpha you can trust. The rest of us haven’t."

Dron steps forward, "They have every right to deny us. If I were them I’d be hesitant too. It’s understandable."

Tempest chuckled; this was the same man who was willing to break down every wall that stood between them. The chaotic savage everyone once feared. If only the people knew him like she did.

"So what do you want?" She turns back to Hen. "You want us all to leave?"

"Yes, that would be perferable."

"It’s not going to happen." Tempest knew that even though the main goal might have been to find each other, she and Dron were here to do something else. They were here to figure out who was responsible for torching the poor class.

She had a good idea who it was, the high royals. And if that was the case, they would need everyone they could get to go up against them. They would need the humans to be a part of the cause.

Slowly, the voices of the humans and the army on the other side of the gate start to rise. They are at an impasse.

Everyone has a reason for either wanting the alphas to leave or for wanting them to stay. They aren’t going to get anywhere like this.

The humans won’t open the settlement for the alphas, and the alphas aren’t going to leave Tempest and her crew behind.

There is movement off to the side. Tempest turns her head to see Mexyn stepping forward.

"No, what are you doing?" Tempest initially thinks that Mexyn is going to try and calm her down. After all it’s what Mexyn has been known to do. Advise Tempest.

"No, you’ve done enough. Let me." Mexyn says as she walks right by Tempest and stands in the middle of both crowds.

Tempest watches as Mexyn looks around at the increasingly agitated group of people. Tempest isn’t sure what the usually stoic omega is about to do, but she’s worried for her friend’s safety. She grips Dron tightly knowing that if something happens it’ll be an all-out battle.

Mexyn pulls her shoulders back, and to Tempest’s surprise when she opens her mouth to speak Mexyn’s voice isn’t the quiet, usually gentle tone she’s used to.

What comes out of Mexyn’s mouth is strong and commanding.

"Everyone shut your mouths and listen to me."
