Chapter 273: Nathan Fawcett’s Little Scheme
Nathan Fawcett looked at her and whined, "Believe it or not, I can’t touch anyone else now. You like devoted men, don’t you? Well, isn’t this me being devoted? But all you do is look down on me! Women are all the same. The moment you get something easily, you stop cherishing it! You’re only acting so disdainful because you know it has to be me and no one else."
He was deliberately painting Anne Sutton as a heartless player!
"How would I dare look down on you! You’re the Head of the Linden Family! There are plenty of people who want to marry you! Just go online and look, you have no idea how many people are calling you their husband!"
Although they all thought Ethan Linden and Stella Shields were a couple.
But everyone was still really envious of Stella Shields!
Ethan Linden hadn’t even shown his face, but everyone was filled with curiosity about him just because of his status.
They were all dying to be the one he doted on!
Nathan Fawcett said, "I don’t know any of those people. I only know you."
"..." Anne Sutton didn’t look at him.
Just then, Ian came in. "Mommy."
He walked over, climbed right onto Anne Sutton’s lap, and had her hold him.
When Nathan Fawcett saw how Ian completely disregarded him, treating Anne Sutton’s lap as his personal territory, he asked, "Why are you all over your mom the second you’re back?"
Ian hugged Anne Sutton and said, "Because I missed Mommy!"
Anne Sutton had been a little angry because of Anna Linden, but seeing her son, her anger dissipated. She said, "How were your classes?"
Ian said, "They were okay."
"Are you tired?" Anne Sutton asked the little guy.
Nathan Fawcett was afraid he’d be bored at home alone, so he’d hired tutors to teach him some classes at home.
This way, he could pass the time and learn a few things.
Ian nodded. "Mhm, I’m hungry, Mommy. Let’s go eat!"
Anne Sutton had wanted to go cook much earlier, but she’d been too furious about the room swap.
Now, seeing that the maids had nearly finished moving her things, she carried Ian out of Nathan Fawcett’s room. "Come on, let’s go make dinner."
When Ian saw that all her things had been moved, he asked, "Is Mommy going to live in Daddy’s room from now on?"
"..." This was completely unexpected for Anne Sutton.
Hearing Ian say that made her feel a little awkward.
She nodded. "Mhm."
Ian said, "That’s great! Does this mean I’m going to have a little sister soon?"
Hearing his words, Anne Sutton said, "You’re getting ahead of yourself! Why do you want a sister so badly? Isn’t it good being the only child? If you had a little sister, Mommy and Daddy wouldn’t dote on you anymore. They’d give all their love to your sister. Wouldn’t that make you sad?"
"..." Hearing this, Ian said, "It would. Mommy, you have to keep doting on me, okay? I’ll be really good! Please don’t ever abandon me."
Anne Sutton carried him downstairs and into the kitchen. The cook was already preparing dinner, so Anne Sutton just stood to the side with Ian in her arms, supervising instead of cooking herself.
After dinner, Anne Sutton went to spend time with Ian.
Now that she was living in the Linden Family home, she didn’t like to wander around much and usually stayed with Ian.
She hadn’t been able to take care of Ian when he was little. Now that she could, Anne Sutton just wanted to make up for all the lost time.
Only after she put Ian to sleep did she go to Nathan Fawcett’s room.
She saw that the man who had been in bed was now on the sofa.
He had laid out a blanket on the sofa, and his own large bed had even been fitted with fresh sheets.
Although he had said he would give her the room.
But seeing this scene, Anne Sutton was still a little surprised.
’Is this really something he would do?’
’In my mind, Nathan Fawcett was always the man who’d take advantage of me at every opportunity, doing whatever he wanted without a thought for anyone else’s feelings.’
’But now, even though he’s still sick, he’s moved to the sofa to sleep.’
Anne Sutton asked in astonishment, "Why are you sleeping on the sofa?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "You take the bed."
"But aren’t you unwell?" A sick person needed to rest properly, yet he had proactively moved to sleep on the sofa.
Anne Sutton actually felt a little guilty now.
She said to Nathan Fawcett, "You go sleep in the bed. I’ll be fine on the sofa."
"It’s fine," Nathan Fawcett said. "This is all my mother’s fault. I’m sorry for troubling you. You should take the bed. I’m a man; I can sleep anywhere."
Anne Sutton looked at his magnanimous act and chuckled.
Nathan Fawcett asked, "What are you laughing at?"
Anne Sutton just found it a bit incredible. "You used to be unable to endure the slightest hardship!"
’When I used to sleep with him, I didn’t even dare turn over, afraid I’d wake him and he’d lose his temper.’
’And now this man is willing to sleep on the sofa!’
’He can actually sleep on a sofa?’
’This must be such a hardship for the great young master.’
Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "The past is the past. I’m going to sleep. Good night, Anne."
He pulled the blanket up, covering his head.
Anne Sutton had no choice but to sit down on the bed.
She pulled back the covers, lay down, and leaned against the pillow, watching Nathan Fawcett. He was quite tall, so the sofa was obviously a tight squeeze for him.
She felt uncomfortable just watching him.
Anne Sutton thought he was truly cunning!
’He used one small thing to make me feel incredibly guilty.’
’I can’t even sleep now!’
Anne Sutton pulled the covers over herself.
Although she was the one in the bed, she was clearly the one who couldn’t sleep well. Nathan Fawcett, on the other hand, seemed to be sleeping soundly.
In the morning, Anne Sutton got out of bed and went downstairs. Anna Linden was already up.
She was the type who didn’t sleep well, so she got up quite early.
Seeing Anne Sutton, Anna Linden ordered, "Tonight is Ethan Linden’s uncle’s birthday. You’ll go with him."
"..." Anne Sutton said, "I have something on tonight..."
"What could you possibly have?" Anna Linden looked at her. "You’re not at the clinic today, and you aren’t scheduled for a shift tonight."
"..." Anne Sutton said, "But it’s Ethan Linden’s uncle’s birthday. What would I be doing there?"
"You’re with him now. Shouldn’t you learn to get to know the family’s relatives?"
Anna Linden felt that Anne Sutton just wasn’t taking her position seriously enough!
She had to find something for her to do, to make her understand her current status. She and Ethan Linden were a unit, and she couldn’t be allowed to run off and get entangled with other men all day.
Anne Sutton said, "There’s no need for that, is there? I don’t plan on marrying Ethan Linden."
"..." Anna Linden looked at Anne Sutton and said, "You don’t plan on marrying Ethan Linden? Why? Tell me, in what way is he not good enough for you?"
"I never said he wasn’t good enough for me! I just don’t think we’re compatible."
Anna Linden said, "So you think our Linden Family isn’t good enough for you?"
"I really didn’t mean that," Anne Sutton said. "I just think that if you find a woman who is more suitable for Ethan Linden, you can bring her home. As for me... I’m only here now because I want to spend more time with Ian."
"..." Anna Linden looked at Anne Sutton, feeling a fire ignite in her heart.
Let Anne Sutton be with Nathan Fawcett for now, and when she was no longer needed, kick her out!
—This had been Anna Linden’s original plan.
