Chapter 262: Arranging a Job for Her
Ian said, "Exactly! I had a really hard day today! I was in class, and Dad kept bothering me."
Nathan Fawcett: "..."
He looked at his son and said, "All you know is how to take your mom’s side, don’t you?"
All he did was ask Ian to see what Anne Sutton was doing, hoping Ian would call her back. But Ian had just calmly said, "She’ll come back when she’s done!"
’It made him feel like he was the idiot!’
’That was one thing!’
’But now, Ian was actually tattling on him right in front of Anne Sutton.’
Anne Sutton looked at Ian and smiled.
Ian finished eating, ran up to Anne Sutton, and hugged her. He asked, "Mommy, when are you going to give me a little sister? I want a sister, too. That way, when you guys aren’t here, I’ll have a sister to play with."
The corner of Anne Sutton’s mouth twitched.
’Why is this little guy bringing this up again?’
Anne Sutton hadn’t thought much of it before, but now, hearing Ian’s words, she could feel her face flush.
Nathan Fawcett sat to the side, eating. He looked at Anne Sutton and said, "You’re quite the teacher!"
"..." Anne Sutton glared at the man. "What’s that supposed to mean? I taught him? Why on earth would I teach him to say something like that?"
Nathan Fawcett raised an eyebrow. "How would I know?"
Anne Sutton said, "How come it’s just the two of you eating? Where are your mom and Stella Shields?"
"They went out," Nathan Fawcett said. "My mom’s a busy woman; she’s often not home. Don’t worry about her."
As for Stella Shields, she was usually busy with her own affairs.
So, all things considered, Ian was the one who spent the most time at home.
When Nathan Fawcett got busy, Ian was often home alone with only the maids to look after him.
That’s why the little guy often ran off to the hospital and "disappeared."
Anne Sutton said, "Alright."
When Anna Linden wasn’t around, Anne Sutton felt less suffocated.
Speaking of which, Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "At the hospital, are you still doing menial tasks?"
Hearing this, Anne Sutton said, "Yeah, but it’s not really menial work. Let’s just say I’m experiencing life! It’s nothing."
She was already prepared to keep doing odd jobs indefinitely.
After all, Anna Linden couldn’t stand the sight of her. Just two days ago, something Anne Sutton said had made her ill with anger.
At the mention of this, Anne Sutton’s mood soured. She said to Nathan Fawcett, "I’m going to take a shower. I have an early shift tomorrow."
Nathan Fawcett watched her back as she left, saying nothing.
Ian walked over to Nathan Fawcett’s side and said, "Mommy’s unhappy again."
He was young, but his emotional intelligence was high, so he could tell that Anne Sutton was upset.
Nathan Fawcett said, "You’re done eating, aren’t you? Go keep your mommy company. You can sleep with her tonight."
"Really?" Ian was a little incredulous. He wanted to sleep with Anne Sutton every night, but his dad never allowed it.
He never thought his dad would actually let him sleep with his mom.
Before Nathan Fawcett could say another word, Ian had already dashed up the stairs.
Anne Sutton had just finished her shower and came out of the bathroom to see Ian on her bed. He had brought his favorite teddy bear and pillow with him, looking like he intended to move in.
Seeing her son, Anne Sutton couldn’t help but laugh. "You’re sleeping here tonight?"
Ian nodded. "Mhm, Dad already said yes."
Looking at the little tyke, Anne Sutton’s mood brightened considerably, but... ’Nathan Fawcett actually let Ian sleep with me? Has he had a change of heart?’
Nathan Fawcett didn’t go to bed. After dinner, he stayed in the living room. Before long, Anna Linden returned from outside.
She was still in a bad mood from being angered by Anne Sutton the other day. She had gone out on business today and deliberately returned late to avoid seeing Nathan Fawcett, but to her surprise, he was still awake.
She didn’t say a word and was about to head straight upstairs when Nathan Fawcett saw her and spoke first, "Mom."
Anna Linden glanced at him. "What is it?"
"Are you feeling any better?"
Nathan Fawcett asked.
Seeing how concerned he was, and given his identical face to Ethan Linden’s, Anna Linden felt a little dazed. The displeasure in her heart instantly faded by a good measure.
Chloe Chase saw this and went upstairs first, not wanting to disturb them.
Anna Linden sat down. Nathan Fawcett poured her a cup of tea. Anna Linden sat to the side and said, "I thought you didn’t like tea?"
Nathan Fawcett had been in poor health since childhood and took medicine year-round, so he never liked tea, only drinking plain water.
Hearing Anna Linden’s words now, he said, "I’ve learned to drink it now."
Anna Linden looked at Nathan Fawcett. "Do you need something from me?"
It was rare to see Nathan Fawcett being so obedient.
Nathan Fawcett said, "I just wanted to chat with you."
"Anne Sutton has moved in. Aren’t you happy?" Anna Linden said. "But I heard you two are sleeping in separate rooms?"
As she mentioned this, Anna Linden sounded a little gossipy.
After all, Nathan Fawcett couldn’t touch other women, but he could be with Anne Sutton.
She had never expected that the two of them would actually sleep separately.
At the mention of this, Nathan Fawcett felt a little awkward. ’It’s not like I want to!’
But now Anne Sutton couldn’t stand him, and he had promised not to touch her until she was willing.
A promise he had been forced to make just to get her to come back was now holding him back.
Seeing Nathan Fawcett’s expression, Anna Linden roughly understood what was going on.
Anne Sutton knew that Nathan Fawcett couldn’t be with anyone but her, so now she was starting to look down on him a little.
She said, "Alright, out with it. What do you want?"
They had lived together for several years, after all. For Nathan Fawcett to go to such lengths to butter her up meant he definitely had something to ask.
Nathan Fawcett said, "I heard Anne is working under you now. The last time I went to the hospital to see her, I found her doing menial tasks. She’s been a doctor for several years and is quite capable. It’s great that she can learn from you, but I also hope you can give her a fair chance."
Hearing this, Anna Linden raised an eyebrow. "Did she ask you to do this?"
"No," Nathan Fawcett said. "If I hadn’t seen it at the hospital, I wouldn’t have known any of this. She doesn’t talk to me about work."
Anna Linden looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Since you’re the one asking, you should have already thought about what you’re going to offer me in exchange."
She wasn’t about to change her attitude toward Anne Sutton just because of a few words from Nathan Fawcett.
Especially since Anne Sutton had deliberately humiliated and rejected her before.
Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ve arranged a new show for Stella."
’Right now, his mother doted on Stella Shields the most!’
Nathan Fawcett knew what she was thinking.
Hearing his words, Anna Linden was a little surprised. ’Nathan Fawcett is actually willing to set aside his dissatisfaction with Stella Shields for Anne Sutton’s sake?’
’He really does care about Anne Sutton!’
...
In the morning, as soon as Anne Sutton arrived at the hospital, she received a new assignment from the administration, telling her to work in the outpatient clinic.
Just two days ago she was still doing odd jobs, and now they were suddenly sending her to the outpatient clinic. Anne Sutton was quite surprised.
’Has Anna Linden come to her senses?’
Anna Linden was doing her rounds. When she saw Anne Sutton following her, she said, "What are you doing?"
"You’re not making me do menial work anymore?" Anne Sutton looked at Anna Linden, feeling a bit unsettled by the change.
Anna Linden replied, "It was Ethan’s idea. He came to me and begged."
Anne Sutton: "..."
’Nathan Fawcett?’
