Chapter 288: What, You’re Not Happy?
He recalled that when Anne Sutton had mentioned eating hot pot with a neighbor, Caleb Summers had also told him that he was eating hot pot with *his* beautiful neighbor.
And he’d even said he was going to win her over!
He’d wondered before which unlucky guy it was. Now it seemed that unlucky bastard was... himself?
Anne Sutton glanced at Caleb Summers and said, "You kept coming to the hospital before, weren’t you looking for me? What did you want? Why don’t you just say it right here, in front of Ethan Linden!"
Caleb Summers: "..."
He remembered all the times he’d come looking for Anne Sutton, even asking her to be his spy!
And it turned out she was right in front of him the whole time. Caleb Summers said, "No, it’s all a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! Sister-in-law is so wonderful, how could I have any ill intentions toward you? I just wanted to come see what my sister-in-law looks like."
"Really?" Anne Sutton remembered he used to really hate her.
’His words now sound a little insincere.’
Caleb Summers said, "So, does this mean I can come over to your place for hot pot next time?"
He had been racking his brain for how to ask this woman out.
But he kept getting rejected!
Now that he’d discovered she was actually Nathan Fawcett’s wife, hadn’t everything just fallen into his lap?
Before Anne Sutton could answer, Nathan Fawcett rejected Caleb Summers. "No, you can’t."
Caleb Summers said, "Why not? Didn’t you want me to get along with my sister-in-law before? I hereby declare that I really like and admire her. I promise I’ll get along well with my sister-in-law."
"Get lost!" Seeing the butler walk in from outside, Nathan Fawcett ordered, "Drag him away!"
Hearing this, the butler didn’t hesitate and immediately dragged Caleb Summers away.
Caleb Summers didn’t give up, shouting to Anne Sutton, "Sister-in-law, I’ll be back! I’ll come find you at home next time."
Anne Sutton: "..."
After Caleb Summers was dragged away, she glanced at Nathan Fawcett and said, "That Caleb Summers... you two seem pretty close."
Nathan Fawcett denied it. "Not at all. We’re not close in the slightest."
"How could that be?" Anne Sutton said. "He was concerned about you the moment he walked in. It seems like he really supports you and despises Ryan Linden."
Seeing her mention Caleb Summers, Nathan Fawcett said with a meaningful smile, "You have a good impression of him? Seems you knew each other well before?"
"We’re not close, we’ve only met a few times," Anne Sutton said. "He kept coming to the hospital looking for trouble with me. I was a little scared of him, so I just humored him. He had no idea who I was!"
"But he has a good impression of you." Nathan Fawcett had been worried Caleb Summers would do something to Anne Sutton, but as it turned out, that guy...
...actually had *this* good of an impression of her!
He had been worried about Anne Sutton’s safety, but now he was starting to worry about being cheated on.
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "You’re not going to get jealous over this, are you?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "I thought Charles Prescott and Justin Shields were going to be tough rivals. I never expected the most dangerous enemy to be right by my side."
Anne Sutton said, "You’re overthinking it! I’m not interested in him."
"Who knows if he’s interested in you." Nathan Fawcett remembered Caleb Summers’s vow to "win over" a woman, who turned out to be Anne Sutton. He wanted to rush over to Caleb and strangle him.
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, "Are we going back now? Ian must be worried sick at home."
We’ve wasted so much time here.
Nathan Fawcett checked the time. "Let’s go."
He helped Anne Sutton with her things, and they walked out, one after the other.
The driver was already waiting at the hospital entrance.
It was a bit cold outside at this hour.
Walking beside Anne Sutton, Nathan Fawcett asked, "Are you cold?"
Anne Sutton replied, "I’m fine."
He took off his coat and draped it over her.
Anne Sutton looked at the man. "You’re being so nice to me... I’m a little unused to it."
Nathan Fawcett said, "You’ll get used to it."
He walked with her to the curb. The driver opened the car door, and Nathan Fawcett said, "Get in."
Anne Sutton looked at him. "Didn’t you always used to get in first?"
She was always behind him, like a little follower.
’And now he’s letting me get in first!’
"Hurry up," Nathan Fawcett said, his expression serious.
...
Anne Sutton had no choice but to get into the car.
Charles Prescott stood far off to the side, fuming as he watched Anne Sutton with Ethan Linden.
In the car, Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, "If your head hurts or you’re not feeling well, you can lean on me and rest."
Anne Sutton looked at the man and said, "I’m fine."
The words had barely left her mouth when he reached out and pulled her against him.
She couldn’t even bring herself to refuse.
Anne Sutton rested her head on his shoulder, not in any hurry to pull away.
Her eyes open, she stole glances at him. ’It feels like I’m dreaming. He’s suddenly become so gentle.’
...
Nathan Fawcett sat beside her. With Anne Sutton leaning on his shoulder, he didn’t move, afraid the slightest motion would make her uncomfortable.
Just then, his phone chimed.
He opened it and saw a photo that Charles Prescott had just sent. It was of him and Anne Sutton leaving the hospital.
Charles had taken a photo and sent it over.
However...
Charles Prescott had sent it to Nathan Fawcett, not Ethan Linden.
He had no idea that Nathan Fawcett and Ethan Linden were the same person.
...
Nathan Fawcett saw the photo, and below it was a message: "Anne Sutton is with Ethan Linden now."
Nathan Fawcett picked up his phone, typed, and replied, "How’s the investigation I asked you to do coming along?"
He had sent Charles Prescott to Westhaven to investigate matters concerning Anne Sutton’s child.
Charles Prescott hadn’t given him an answer, and yet he’d already returned!
Naturally, Nathan Fawcett was going to grill him about it.
Charles Prescott replied, "It’s still unclear. I’ll let you know when I have news. But with Anne Sutton like this now, aren’t you going to do anything, Uncle?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "We’re already divorced. What she does is her own business."
Charles Prescott said, "But you told me before that you hoped I would get together with her."
"She doesn’t want to be with you. That’s your problem, not hers."
Charles Prescott: "..."
’I thought telling Nathan Fawcett that Anne Sutton was with Ethan Linden would get a reaction. But he’s actually taking her side?’
’Doesn’t he feel anything, being betrayed by his own brother and ex-wife like this?’
Anne Sutton lifted her head. Seeing Nathan Fawcett on his phone, she asked, "Who are you messaging?"
"Charles Prescott." Nathan Fawcett didn’t hide it from her. "He came to the hospital. He just saw us."
After speaking, Nathan Fawcett showed Anne Sutton the messages Charles Prescott had sent.
Anne Sutton took his phone, read their conversation, and couldn’t help but laugh. "Charles Prescott really doesn’t give up, does he!"
Nathan Fawcett said, "The Fawcett Group is in your hands now, and you won’t get together with him. Of course he’s anxious."
Anne Sutton said, "You seem pretty happy watching him like this, don’t you?"
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton with his deep eyes. "What, are you not happy?"
"Of course I’m happy!"
