Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 287: Caleb Summers Met Anne Sutton

Anna Linden had never imagined that domestic violence could happen in her own family.

She hated this sort of thing more than anything!

Whether it was domestic violence or infidelity, these were things she could never, ever tolerate.

She wasn’t the kind of woman to swallow her pride and put up with it!

If her husband ever dared to betray her, she’d hold a grudge for life.

Ryan Linden said, "Auntie, I know I was wrong. Please, save me."

He knew Anna Linden was his only hope. Otherwise...

Who knew what Ethan Linden would do to him!

Anna Linden, having been deceived by him, was furious. She turned to Nathan Fawcett and said, "You handle this."

With that, she walked straight out the door.

Nathan Fawcett stood aside, watching Ryan Linden. Seeing that Nathan was now the only one in charge, Ryan pleaded, "Ethan... I know I was wrong! I wasn’t thinking straight! Ethan, please forgive me! For the sake of the time I saved your life when we were kids, please, forgive me!"

Nathan Fawcett said, "You owe the company all that money, and you think a simple ’I forgive you’ means you don’t have to pay it back?"

Even if Ryan Linden had saved Ethan Linden’s life, his recent actions had been utterly disappointing.

Just moments ago, he had been plotting how to slander Nathan Fawcett!

And now he had the gall to ask to be let off the hook!

"Ethan!" Lana Langley struggled up from the bed. "Please, let your brother go! Don’t keep forcing him to pay back the money! We really don’t have any! What’s our family supposed to do now? If you keep pressuring him for the money, you’re driving us to our deaths! We have a son, and you have a son too, don’t you? For the sake of him saving you in the past, please, just forgive him this once..."

Nathan Fawcett looked at Ryan Linden and said, "Go to the company and process your own resignation. I don’t want to see you ever again."

"You’re really kicking me out of the company?" Ryan Linden stared at Nathan Fawcett, incredulous.

Nathan Fawcett said, "You should only take on what you can handle. There’s no place for you at the company. The facts prove that you’re simply not worthy of this position."

’I gave him a chance, and he proved useless!’

Ryan Linden said, "Ethan Linden, I’m your brother! How can you treat me like this?"

"Don’t say that. My parents never gave me an older brother. We just share a surname, that’s all. Besides, I haven’t seen you treating any of the other ’brothers’ in the family particularly well."

"You..."

Before Ryan Linden could say another word, his father walked in.

The commotion was so huge, it would have been hard for him not to find out.

Victor Linden walked in, saw Ryan Linden, and immediately slapped him across the face.

Nathan Fawcett watched this unfold with a slight smirk. "Since Uncle is here, I won’t meddle any further. I’ll be on my way."

With that, he walked over to Anne Sutton. "Let’s go."

After leaving Lana Langley’s room, Nathan Fawcett immediately took Anne Sutton for a thorough check-up. He was worried that the collision earlier might have given her a concussion or something worse.

With Nathan by her side, Anne Sutton had a series of scans done.

Fortunately, the results showed nothing more serious than a superficial wound on her head.

Nathan Fawcett stood by her side, applying the doctor-prescribed medication to the wound on her head.

Caleb Summers walked in from outside. "I finally found you!"

Anne Sutton froze when she heard that voice. ’Holy shit!’

’Isn’t that Caleb Summers? The guy who’s been trying to cause trouble for me?’

’He found me already?’

Since Anne Sutton had her back to the door, Caleb Summers couldn’t see her face, only Nathan Fawcett’s.

Nathan Fawcett looked up. "What are you doing here?"

Caleb Summers walked in and said to Nathan, "I heard about what happened with Ryan Linden, so I came over. He didn’t give you any trouble, did he?"

Caleb Summers had been worried sick.

Nathan Fawcett said, "No. He just blamed me for his wife’s car accident, claiming I’d nearly driven her to her death."

Caleb Summers swore, "That son of a bitch. He must have a death wish! So what happened? How did you resolve it?"

Nathan Fawcett glanced down at Anne Sutton. "Fortunately, your sister-in-law recorded the whole incident. Once there was evidence, he had nothing left to say. I’ve already kicked him out of the company. He won’t be working there ever again."

When Caleb Summers heard this, he said, "Good. That’s a relief."

Only then did he notice the medicine in Nathan Fawcett’s hand and the person sitting in front of him.

Seeing the way Nathan was acting...

’This woman must be Anne Sutton.’

Remembering how long he’d been searching for her without success, Caleb’s interest was piqued now that he’d finally found her. He said to Nathan, "So this is Anne Sutton!"

Nathan Fawcett shot him a glare. "Since when are you on a first-name basis with her?"

Caleb Summers said, "Why can’t I say her name? Since I’m here now, why don’t we finally meet, Ms. Sutton? You’ve been avoiding me."

Hearing this, Anne Sutton’s lips twitched. ’Damn it,’ she thought, ’looks like there’s no getting out of this.’

She turned around, glanced at Caleb Summers, and gave an awkward wave. "That’s me."

Caleb Summers: "..."

Seeing Anne Sutton’s face, Caleb Summers was completely stunned. "You’re Anne Sutton?"

Nathan Fawcett looked at Caleb. "From the sound of it, you’ve been coming to the hospital quite a bit to cause trouble for her?"

Caleb Summers, staring at Anne Sutton, said to Nathan, "It’s not like that..."

He *had* wanted to cause trouble!

But every time, he’d mistaken her for someone else!

In his eyes, Anne Sutton was just his beautiful neighbor who was a great cook.

He’d just been wondering how he could ask her to get hot pot with him!

Anne Sutton felt incredibly awkward. After all, she had been hiding this for so long. She knew Caleb Summers must have a low opinion of her, but at least she was with Nathan. ’He probably won’t do anything to me, right?’

The thought gave Anne Sutton some peace of mind.

Caleb Summers looked at Anne Sutton, his face a mask of concern. "By the way, how did you get hurt, sister-in-law?"

Seeing how quickly he changed his tune, Anne Sutton was taken aback. ’Uh...’

’Is it because Nathan’s here that he isn’t showing his true colors?’

’But now that he’s seen my face, I probably won’t be able to avoid him anymore.’

Nathan Fawcett said, "Ryan Linden pushed her. She hit her head."

"That damn bastard! I’m going to find him right now!"

"Wait." Anne Sutton stopped Caleb as he was about to storm out. "I’m fine, really. Besides, Ethan Linden already dealt with him."

She remembered how Caleb had beaten up Ryan Linden last time, and how Nathan had been blamed for it.

Anne Sutton had previously thought that Caleb Summers and Ethan Linden might be mortal enemies, but from their conversation just now, she realized they were actually good friends.

’If Caleb goes after Ryan Linden now, everyone will just assume Nathan sent him!’

Thankfully, Caleb Summers stopped as soon as Anne called out to him.

He looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Alright."

Nathan Fawcett glanced from Caleb to Anne, a strange feeling creeping over him. "You two know each other well?"

’Why was Caleb so willing to listen to Anne?’

Anne Sutton said, "He’s my neighbor. We had hot pot together once."

Nathan Fawcett: "..."
