Chapter 248: It Seems I Don’t Have to Worry

She noticed the room was much different from the cold, impersonal guest room she’d stayed in before. Many new items had been added, and a vase was filled with her favorite gardenias.

While Anne Sutton was still taking everything in, Ian picked up a stuffed doll and said proudly, "Mommy, I got this for you."

Anne Sutton took a closer look and saw that the doll was an adorable, chibi-style version of Ian.

Ian asked, "Do you like it? Now you can hug me to sleep at night."

Anne Sutton looked at the mischievous little imp and said, "This is just too adorable!"

"Yeah!" Ian said. "There’s lots of other stuff, too. Daddy got some of it, like your slippers. See? They’re the same as mine, and Daddy has a pair, too."

A family of three, all using matching things.

"And toothbrushes," Ian added.

"..."

Anne Sutton glanced over and saw that the slippers did look a lot like Nathan Fawcett’s. She remembered he had a similar pair, and so did Ian...

’So now that I’ve moved in, they got a pair for me, too?’

Anne Sutton looked at Ian and said, "Thank you."

"Thank Daddy," Ian said. "Mommy, don’t you think my daddy is a really great man? After me, he’s the best man in the whole world!"

"..." Hearing Ian’s words, Anne Sutton’s lip twitched. "Since when did you become your dad’s little brown-noser?"

"I promised him. As long as he could get you to come back and live with us, I’d listen to him from now on."

’...’ Anne Sutton’s lip twitched again. ’That Nathan Fawcett... using our son like that is a bit shameless, isn’t it?’

Ian looked at Anne Sutton and said, "When you and Daddy get married, you can give me a little sister, right? I wish I had a little sister."

"You’re getting way ahead of yourself!" Anne Sutton said, startled. ’Good grief! I only just moved in today, and he’s already planning for a little sister!’

’It’s just that my relationship with Nathan Fawcett isn’t what he thinks it is right now.’

Anne Sutton familiarized herself with the room and started to take out her luggage. She then noticed Ian sprawled on the sofa, starting to doze off.

He was still little, after all, and a bit of playing was enough to wear him out.

"Ian?" Anne Sutton called out.

Hearing her call his name, he opened his eyes and glanced at her before his eyelids grew heavy and he started drifting off again.

A smile touched Anne Sutton’s lips as she watched him. Forgetting about her unpacking, she walked over, scooped him into her arms, and said, "Let’s go wash your face. It’s time for you to rest."

"Okay," Ian mumbled, clinging to her.

As Anne Sutton came out of the room carrying Ian, she saw Nathan Fawcett coming up the stairs. He glanced at his son and asked, "Is he asleep?"

"He’s sleepy."

"I’ll take him for his bath," Nathan Fawcett said.

"I can help him," Anne Sutton offered.

"He’s a boy." Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. "Give him to me."

’The boy is still young, but these things need to be taught early. He needs to understand the difference between men and women.’

Anne Sutton glanced at him, noticing how serious he was now when it came to matters concerning Ian.

Perhaps it was seeing how much he doted on their son, but for the time being, Anne Sutton decided not to dwell on the things he’d kept from her.

Nathan Fawcett took Ian for his bath, and Anne Sutton returned to her room. Just as she walked in, the phone on her desk rang. Anne Sutton glanced at the screen and saw it was a call from Justin Shields.

She knew Justin Shields wasn’t like his sister, but after her recent clash with Stella Shields, Anne Sutton still hesitated to answer his call. In the end, though, she owed him a favor, so she picked up.

"Hello?"

Justin Shields’s voice was warm. "When are you moving? Do you need any help?"

"There’s no need," Anne Sutton said. "I’ve already moved into the Linden Family’s home."

Hearing this, Justin Shields was taken aback. "Why?"

"Ian asked me to come stay with him, so I did," Anne Sutton explained.

When Justin Shields heard she did it for her son, he chuckled. "Well, that’s good. But won’t Dr. Linden have something to say about it? She’s quite strict. She won’t give you a hard time, will she?"

"What does it matter?" Anne Sutton said. "I have to work under her and follow her orders at the hospital every day anyway."

’I’ve already experienced every trick Anna Linden has up her sleeve. There’s nothing left to be afraid of.’

"What about your new apartment, then?" Justin Shields asked.

"I’ve already had it cleaned. I’ll just let it sit for now. I’ll figure out when to move in later."

Now that she’d bought the apartment, Anne Sutton felt secure having a place of her own.

She had already told Nathan Fawcett that she could leave whenever she wanted.

The moment she became unhappy staying with the Linden Family, she could leave.

"All right, then," Justin Shields said. "If you need any help at the Linden Family’s home, you can call me."

"I’m fine," Anne Sutton replied. "But your sister might not be doing so well."

’Nathan Fawcett yelled at her until she cried!’

"..."

After a moment of silence, Justin Shields said, "I’ll go check on her later, then."

’With Anne Sutton at the Linden Family home, and Stella Shields despising her more than anyone, a conflict between them is probably inevitable.’

Justin Shields felt a little worried.

...

Stella Shields sat alone in her room, her heart filled with frustration.

She had thought that even if Nathan Fawcett was going on blind dates, it would be with anyone but Anne Sutton. But now, not only had the blind date been a disaster, but Anne Sutton had even moved in.

She had been crying for a long time and still couldn’t make sense of it all when Justin Shields called.

Stella Shields answered the phone. "What do you want?"

Her tone was foul.

"Are you crying?" Justin Shields asked.

’No wonder Anne Sutton said she wasn’t doing well.’

"Are you just calling to laugh at me?" Stella Shields demanded. "Why didn’t you tell me Anne Sutton was moving in?"

"I just found out myself," Justin Shields said. "If I had known earlier, I would have told you."

"It’s bad enough that she moved in, but I can’t believe Auntie didn’t even scold her today," Stella Shields said. "Don’t tell me even Auntie wants them to be together?"

"..." Justin Shields said, "If you’re unhappy at the Linden Family’s home, you can just come back."

"Come back? How can I just come back?" Stella Shields retorted. "If I can’t marry Ethan Linden, what’s the point of living?"

’It wasn’t just about Ethan Linden the man; it was about everything the Linden Family represented.’

’Once I’m with Ethan Linden, my status in my own family will skyrocket.’

She could tolerate Nathan Fawcett’s messy entanglement with Anne Sutton, but she would never let Anne Sutton steal this opportunity from her!

’Anne Sutton is so far beneath me. What right does she have to be with Ethan Linden?’

’Ethan Linden is the Head of the Linden Family now!’

"Since you can still shout at your brother, I guess I don’t need to worry," Justin Shields said dryly.

"I don’t need you to worry about me," Stella Shields snapped. "If you have time to worry about me, you’d be better off getting rid of Anne Sutton!"
