Chapter 283: Nathan Fawcett’s Intense Jealousy
Nathan Fawcett: "..."
’Justin Shields is in there. If Anne Sutton goes in, isn’t that the perfect opportunity for them to be alone together?’
’Justin Shields would be thrilled!’
’But I don’t want that!’
Nathan Fawcett said, "I’m willing to humor him and see how well he does!"
’No matter what, I’ll just say it tastes awful!’
However, expectations are one thing, and reality is another...
Anne Sutton picked up a piece of the fish in front of her and asked Justin Shields, "Did you really make this?"
Justin Shields said, "Mm-hmm. Try it and see what you think."
Following his suggestion, Anne Sutton took a bite, her eyes curving into crescents of happiness. "This is delicious!"
Nathan Fawcett: "..."
Anne Sutton said, "I never would have guessed you’re such a good cook! You really made this authentic Westhaven Cuisine yourself?"
’Who knew Justin Shields had so many talents?’
Justin Shields said, "I’m glad you like it. Ian, have a taste."
After speaking, he served Ian some of the food.
Ian nodded. "Thank you!"
He was just a kid and not a picky eater, and besides, Justin Shields’s cooking was genuinely good.
’If even Anne said it was delicious, then it must be good!’
Anna Linden came downstairs as well. Seeing them eating, Justin Shields said, "Dr. Linden, dinner is ready."
Chloe Chase, who was standing to the side, said with a smile, "And Mr. Shields is the one who cooked today’s meal."
Anna Linden sat down and looked at the table full of Westhaven Cuisine. She rarely ate Westhaven Cuisine anymore!
Back when she was with Arthur Fawcett, he loved it, so they ate it often.
She had even grown to like it for a while!
But ever since their divorce, she had completely cut out everything that had to do with him.
Now, looking at the Westhaven Cuisine Justin Shields had prepared, Anna Linden asked, "Why didn’t Anne Sutton cook today?"
She looked at Anne Sutton.
’She had only come down to eat because she thought Anne was cooking.’
’She had to admit she’d grown addicted to Anne’s cooking lately.’
Justin Shields, sitting nearby, said, "It was my idea today. I wanted to make some Westhaven Cuisine for Anne, since she hasn’t had it in a long time. If it’s not to your taste, Dr. Linden, I’ll try to do better next time."
Anna Linden picked up her chopsticks and took a bite. Anne Sutton said, "Justin’s cooking is actually quite good."
Anna Linden was not very complimentary. "It’s mediocre. I don’t like Westhaven Cuisine."
She took two bites and put down her chopsticks.
Sitting to the side, Nathan Fawcett felt much better seeing his mother say she didn’t like it.
He glanced at Justin Shields. ’Tsk. Serves him right! Trying to show off... Doesn’t he know his place?’
Just as he was thinking this, he heard Anne Sutton say, "You did a great job, don’t feel too bad. I think it’s delicious! Dr. Linden just doesn’t care for Westhaven Cuisine."
Justin Shields said, "I’m not upset. I made it for you, anyway. As long as you like it, that’s all that matters."
After saying this, Justin Shields glanced at Nathan Fawcett.
The two men’s gazes met, and sparks practically flew through the air...
Since the others didn’t care for the food, Anne Sutton ate a little more to show her appreciation for Justin Shields.
Justin Shields sat nearby, watching her with a smile playing on his lips.
Nathan Fawcett exhaled sharply, feeling a wave of irritation wash over him.
Chloe Chase looked at Justin Shields and asked, "Mr. Shields, will you be staying here tonight? I can have a guest room prepared for you."
He was Stella Shields’s brother.
When he visited, the family was always quite polite to him.
Nathan Fawcett said, "No!"
Chloe Chase looked at Nathan Fawcett.
Justin Shields also looked at Nathan Fawcett. Seeing Nathan’s refusal, Justin chuckled and said to Chloe Chase, "That won’t be necessary. I have something to take care of, so I’ll be leaving soon. I’ll go once Anne is finished eating! Anne, how about I pick you up for work tomorrow?"
Nathan Fawcett: "..."
’He realized Justin Shields was completely ignoring him!’
’Was the man treating him like he was invisible?’
Anne Sutton looked at Justin Shields and said, "There’s no need! I can get to work by myself."
’Truthfully, she wasn’t interested in getting too close to Justin Shields!’
’Besides, Anna Linden had already warned her!’
’Though she wasn’t afraid of Anna Linden, she still had to think about Ian.’
’She was finally able to be here with Ian. If she got too close to Justin and made Anna Linden angry, Anna might stop her from seeing Ian, and that would just be another huge mess.’
Justin Shields said, "Don’t be so formal, we’re all friends here! Nathan shouldn’t mind, right?"
After speaking, he looked at Nathan Fawcett.
Nathan Fawcett: "..."
’For some reason, even though Justin Shields seemed perfectly reasonable on the surface, everything he did infuriated him!’
’What’s with this guy’s whole passive-aggressive act?’
’Is he some kind of master manipulator?’
Anne Sutton also looked at Nathan Fawcett and saw him standing nearby, staring at her.
Nathan Fawcett met Anne Sutton’s gaze. Remembering that he wasn’t supposed to interfere in her affairs, he said sullenly, "I don’t mind! Of course I don’t mind!"
Anne Sutton: "..."
’He... he really doesn’t care?’
Justin Shields looked at Anne Sutton and smiled. "Then it’s a date! I’ll be heading back now."
He stood up and walked out the door.
Nathan Fawcett watched his retreating back, his fists clenching so tightly his knuckles cracked.
Anne Sutton was still eating. Nathan Fawcett sat down in the seat opposite her. "You’re still not full?"
Anne Sutton said, "It would be a shame to let all this food go to waste. I’ll just finish it."
Nathan Fawcett: "Can your stomach even handle it? You’ve eaten so much."
Anne Sutton said, "It’s really good! It’s fine. It’s not often I get to indulge a little, so it should be okay."
’Since none of them liked it, she would just have to make the sacrifice!’
Nathan Fawcett said to Anne Sutton, "Suit yourself."
Then he stood up and went upstairs.
Anne Sutton watched him go without a word.
She slowly finished her meal before heading upstairs.
She didn’t see Nathan Fawcett in the room.
She opened the door and glanced inside, just in time to see the housekeeper coming out of his study.
’Looks like he’s still busy with work.’
Anne Sutton paid it no mind.
She washed up and went to bed!
In the middle of the night, she felt thirsty and got up for a drink of water. She noticed the sofa where Nathan Fawcett usually slept was still empty; he hadn’t come back.
She went downstairs to pour some water and glanced at his study door. She saw him sitting there in his shirt, arms crossed, not busy, but with his brow deeply furrowed as if contemplating some world-shattering problem.
Seeing him like this, Anne Sutton knocked on the door and asked, "Still not sleeping?"
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. "You go to bed."
"..." Anne Sutton walked in and handed him a glass of water. "Here, have some water. Some people have sensitive stomachs, you know. Don’t go making yourself sick again."
Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "You’re about to run off with Justin Shields, so why do you care if I live or die?"
"..."
For some reason, Anne Sutton could practically smell the jealousy in the air.
She looked at this man, sulking in the middle of the night instead of sleeping. "What’s wrong, Mr. Linden? Are you jealous?"
Hearing her teasing, Nathan Fawcett didn’t answer. With a stiff expression, he said to Anne Sutton, "I just feel like I’m a nobody!"
’The more he liked her, the less she seemed to care!’
’He had been thinking all night, and the more he thought about it, the more he felt like a complete joke!’
