Hearing what Stella said, the housekeeper looked awkward. "But..."

"But what?" Stella demanded. "Can’t I even have a bowl of porridge?"

"Ms. Sutton made this," the housekeeper said. "It’s being saved for the master’s lunch."

Besides, Stella couldn’t stand Anne Sutton. The housekeeper knew that!

’She probably wouldn’t want to eat anything Anne Sutton made.’

"..." Hearing Anne Sutton had made it, Stella was beyond annoyed. "Then forget it! I don’t want it anymore!"

’That Anne Sutton is a real schemer!’

’So what if she can cook?’

’She’s taken over all the cooking in the house!’

’Why doesn’t she just go get a job as a chef?!’

’How annoying!’

Anna Linden glanced at Stella and said to the housekeeper, "Go make some breakfast for Stella."

The housekeeper nodded. "Alright."

Stella sat to one side and said to Anna Linden, "You’re still the one who’s nicest to me!"

"..." Anna Linden’s lips curved into a smile.

She left as soon as she finished the porridge.

Stella waited for the housekeeper to finish cooking the porridge before she started eating.

But she found it wasn’t tasty at all.

...

Anne Sutton woke Ian up for his meal, then finished helping Nathan Fawcett with his breakfast.

During the meal, she said to Ian, "I’ll need you to look after your dad at home today! He’s not well, so pay close attention to him. Don’t let him get himself sick again!"

Ian nodded. "Okay!"

’Why did his dad have to be so unreliable!’

’Making him worry like this!’

Anne Sutton looked at her son and smiled.

Nathan Fawcett, sitting nearby, said to Anne Sutton, "I’m fine. I just won’t eat anything I’m not supposed to!"

Anne Sutton replied, "Who knows what kind of trouble you’ll get yourself into?"

She put the bowl aside and said to Nathan Fawcett, "Just have a little for now. You can have more later if you get hungry."

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and took her hand. "Come back soon."

The butler was standing right there as he spoke. His sudden grasp on her hand, combined with his intimate tone, made Anne Sutton extremely embarrassed, and she quickly snatched her hand away.

She stood up. "I have to go! I’m going to be late!"

’Unbelievable!’

’What was he thinking, acting like that all of a sudden?’

’He might not feel ashamed, but I certainly do!’

...

That afternoon, Nathan Fawcett didn’t go to work. Having heard he was injured, Caleb Summers came to visit.

He walked into the bedroom to find Nathan Fawcett lying in bed, laptop propped on his chest as he dealt with work matters. "You were fine yesterday," Caleb said. "How did you suddenly get sick?"

"None of your business!" Nathan Fawcett didn’t look sick in the slightest.

’He had been a little under the weather yesterday, but thanks to Anne Sutton’s meticulous care, he was already much better.’

’He could have gone to the office!’

’But he had called in sick anyway!’

’After all, Anne Sutton only paid him special attention when he was sick!’

’He didn’t want to waste this hard-won opportunity. He had to make the most of it.’

Caleb Summers said, "Well, you don’t look that sick! You never take sick days, so when you suddenly called out, I thought it must be something serious! What’s gotten into you? Trying to slack off?"

Nathan Fawcett was a workaholic.

As long as he could get out of bed, he would be at the office, keeping an eye on everyone’s work.

For him to act like this today was strange indeed.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Caleb Summers, suddenly recalling the important matter Anne Sutton had mentioned the day before. He asked, "Did you go to the hospital to look for Anne Sutton?"

"Of course not!" Caleb Summers wasn’t about to admit it. He had, in fact, gone, but he hadn’t managed to see Anne Sutton.

And Nathan Fawcett had no proof.

Caleb said, "I just wasn’t feeling well yesterday morning, so I went to the hospital to see a doctor. That’s all. Who told you I was there to see Anne Sutton?"

’He hadn’t even seen her!’

’So how did Nathan Fawcett know?’

’He found it very strange.’

’He didn’t want Nathan Fawcett to give him a hard time, so he had to deny it to the bitter end!’

Nathan Fawcett looked at him and said, "I’m only going to say this once, and I mean it. If you dare lay a finger on her, don’t blame me for what happens next."

Nathan Fawcett’s tone was dead serious. Caleb Summers pursed his lips, sat down in a nearby chair, and said, "You’re being mean to me!"

Nathan Fawcett: "..."

Caleb Summers said, "I thought we were best friends. Ever since you took over the company, haven’t I helped you with everything? I’ve done so much for you, and you’re telling me I’m less important than some woman?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "She’s Ian’s mother, and she’s my future wife."

’Even if she isn’t... yet.’

Hearing the word "wife," Caleb Summers was speechless. "You mean you’re going to marry her as Ethan Linden? You’re going to make her the Linden Family Head’s Wife?"

"And why not?" Nathan Fawcett retorted. "If you really support me, you should support every decision I make."

"I disagree!" Caleb Summers shot back. "How is some random woman worthy of you? Who does she think she is?"

"...Don’t you dare talk about my mom like that!" The words had barely left Caleb Summers’s mouth when Ian appeared, carrying a bowl of porridge on a tray.

Ian handed the porridge to Nathan Fawcett. "This is for you."

Nathan Fawcett glanced at his son and took the bowl.

Caleb Summers sat on the side, thinking it was bad enough that Nathan Fawcett was giving him a hard time, but now even Ian, this pampered little prince, was giving him a dirty look.

Still, it was his mother they were talking about, so it was understandable that Ian would be angry.

What Caleb Summers couldn’t understand was...

"Didn’t you used to like Stella? I think Stella’s great!"

Nathan Fawcett said, "I’m not going to marry her. What, do you want me to marry the woman Ethan likes?"

"That’s true," Caleb Summers said. "That would be bad. Well, what about Faye Yorke then?"

"She broke off the engagement," Nathan Fawcett said. "Right now, not a single woman in all of Veridia is willing to marry me."

"Why?" This was the first Caleb Summers was hearing of it, and he found it unbelievable. "Are those women blind? If I were a woman, I’d want to marry you! Why on earth wouldn’t they want to marry you?"

"Even if you wanted to marry me, I wouldn’t be interested," Nathan Fawcett said, giving Caleb Summers a look of disdain.

Caleb Summers: "..."

’He was actually being rejected!’

’Him, a man of such perfection.’

’An indispensable talent at the Linden Conglomerate!’

’Not to mention, his looks could rival any of the young heartthrobs in show business!’

’And on top of that, he could cook!’

’You couldn’t find a single fault with him.’

’And Nathan Fawcett had the nerve to reject him!’

’The nerve!’

Nathan Fawcett picked up the porridge and began to eat in silence before adding a final warning. "In any case, if you hurt her and something happens, I won’t let you off the hook."

Caleb Summers asked, "You’re just having porridge for lunch?"

"My stomach is upset. I’m supposed to eat a lot of porridge."

’He remembered what Anne Sutton had said!’

’Besides, how could Caleb Summers possibly understand just how delicious Anne Sutton’s porridge was?’

Nearby, Ian also began to eat his porridge.

Caleb Summers absolutely hated porridge.

Seeing the two of them eating it, he realized he hadn’t had any in a long time. "I want some, too," he said.

Nathan Fawcett said, "There’s none for you."

"Why not?"

After saying that, he went downstairs himself. Seeing the pot of porridge on the table, he had the housekeeper ladle him a bowl.

He was very familiar with the house, treating it as if it were his own.

’As long as he didn’t have to see Anna Linden, everything was fine!’
