Chapter 270: Is He a Pervert?
Anna Linden’s temper was rather frightening, and he was a little scared of her, so he usually did his best to avoid her.
Returning with the congee, Caleb Summers said smugly, "The congee your family’s cook made is actually pretty good."
Ian looked at him and said, "The rest was for Dad and me."
’There wasn’t much to begin with!’
’We might have even wanted to have it tonight!’
’After all, we don’t even know when Anne Sutton will get home.’
’And now he’s started eating it!’
Caleb Summers said, "I’m just having a little. We’ll just have the housekeeper make more later! Can’t I even have a little congee?"
’Nathan Fawcett is really getting more and more unreasonable!’
’Now he won’t even let me have some congee!’
"Is it good?" Nathan Fawcett asked, his expression dark.
Caleb Summers nodded. "Mhm."
Nathan Fawcett looked at the man, knowing Caleb Summers was a foodie...
’He’s very particular about what he eats!’
He hadn’t expected Caleb to take a liking to the congee Anne Sutton had made.
...
But after finishing the congee, Caleb Summers couldn’t hold back and started complaining. "Your family’s congee is delicious, I’ll give you that," he said, "but you snapped at me because of that woman! I haven’t forgotten that! We’re supposed to be brothers, but now you’re ditching your bro for some woman."
’That’s exactly why...’
’I have to go teach Anne Sutton a proper lesson!’
After finishing the congee at Nathan Fawcett’s place, he went to the hospital.
’Even if Nathan comes after me for this later, I’ll take it!’
’But that damned woman absolutely cannot be allowed to stay by Nathan Fawcett’s side...’
’Otherwise, she’ll ruin our brotherhood!’
’A true femme fatale!’
After a hectic morning, Anne Sutton finally managed to grab lunch with Vera Wells.
Vera Wells said, "It’s so great that Dr. Linden isn’t giving you a hard time anymore! Study under her for two years, and any hospital you go to in the future will be clamoring to have you."
Being able to study under Anna Linden was basically a golden ticket.
The kind that makes hospitals fight over you!
Anne Sutton said, "I have Ethan Linden to thank for that."
’Otherwise, I’d still be stuck doing grunt work!’
Vera Wells said, "He treats you really well, and you’re living at his family’s home now. Are you two planning on getting together?"
Anne Sutton said, "No, I don’t want to be with him."
"Why?" Vera Wells was incredulous. "Girl, do you hear what you’re saying? Marrying Ethan Linden is what countless women dream of! And you don’t want to? Besides, you two have a child together now!"
Vera Wells already knew that Nathan Fawcett was Ethan Linden.
She and Anne Sutton were very close.
Anne Sutton hadn’t hidden it from her.
Naturally, she hoped that Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett would be able to get together.
Forget feelings for a moment—what woman could stay rational when faced with a man like that? No one would turn him down.
Especially with a child in the picture!
Anne Sutton said, "I’m still angry about the past. Besides, if I marry into the Linden Family, people will talk."
’They’ll think I’m marrying up...’
’Outsiders don’t know that I was with Nathan Fawcett before!’
’They’ll just think that the man named Ethan Linden married his own sister-in-law!’
"But he’s treating you so well now!" Vera Wells said. "He brought you back to the Linden Family and said all that in front of his mother. It proves he’s thinking the same thing. As long as he likes you, who cares what other people think! Honestly, people will talk no matter what you do. And about what happened back then—didn’t you say it was just a misunderstanding? It can’t be helped. A lot of that is in the past now. You need to have a better life going forward, right?"
Anne Sutton looked at Vera Wells and said, "I’m not thinking that far ahead right now."
As the two were talking, Caleb Summers walked over.
Vera Wells saw him first and tugged on Anne Sutton’s arm. "Look how tall that woman is."
Anne Sutton looked over, saw the long-haired Caleb Summers, and laughed. "That’s a guy!"
"Huh? A guy who’s that good-looking? Is he trying to make the rest of us feel inadequate?" Vera Wells said, exasperated.
’The Creator is so unfair!’
Caleb Summers had already walked over. He looked at Anne Sutton, a pitiful expression on his face.
Anne Sutton asked, "What’s wrong?"
Caleb Summers said, "I’m in a bad mood."
He had originally come looking for Anne Sutton.
But when he got to her department, they told him she had gone to lunch.
So he’d rushed over to the cafeteria.
He didn’t find the person he was looking for, but he did run into his neighbor, Yorke.
Seeing how down he looked, Anne Sutton asked, "Why are you in a bad mood?"
Caleb Summers glanced at Vera Wells.
When Vera Wells saw him glance her way, she immediately got the hint—he felt she was being a third wheel.
Vera Wells stood up. "Well, I’ll be going then. You two talk."
And with that, she hurried away.
Once Vera Wells had left with her tray, Anne Sutton turned to Caleb Summers. "So, what’s wrong?"
’Why is this guy here again!’
’Don’t tell me he’s here looking for me again, is he?’
Caleb Summers said, "Have you seen Anne Sutton? She should be at work today, right? Someone just told me she was in the cafeteria. Can you see if you can spot her?"
Anne Sutton was taken aback when she heard him. ’Sure enough...’
’This guy really is here looking for me!’
’This guy is a real pest.’
’Acting like some kind of creep, pestering me whenever he feels like it?’
Anne Sutton said nervously, "Uh, well, I haven’t seen her either. I just heard a rumor, that’s all. There are so many people in this hospital, it’s impossible for me to have seen everyone."
’Good thing I’m not wearing my ID badge...’
’If he recognized me, I’d be so dead!’
Anne Sutton was afraid he’d keep asking questions and discover her identity. She quickly tried to distract him. "Didn’t you say you were in a bad mood? What happened? Tell me about it!"
’Even though I really don’t want to hear it.’
"I have a really good friend," Caleb Summers said. "I treat him exceptionally well, like he’s my own best brother. I’d do anything for him, but I never imagined he’d actually snap at me over some woman!"
"Brothers are never as important as women, right?" Anne Sutton said consolingly.
Before she could even finish, Caleb Summers shot back, "What are you talking about? That woman is just dragging him down and will hurt his career. I was just looking out for him as a brother! But he snapped at me for her. It’s really disheartening."
"Sounds like your friend’s got it bad," Anne Sutton said. "When someone’s that lovesick, you shouldn’t even try to reason with them. You’ll only end up getting on their bad side!"
"You have a point," Caleb Summers said. "But I’m still in a bad mood. I’m just so pissed off! We’re best friends. I’d go through hell and back for him, so how come I still lose out to some woman?"
Hearing this, Anne Sutton started to get suspicious. "Um... you’re not gay, are you? Are you in love with your friend?"
’Why else would he be so hung up on something like this?’
Caleb Summers was speechless. "Of course not! We’re just really good friends. People these days have such dirty minds! Just because two guys are close, everyone assumes there’s something else going on."
Anne Sutton smiled.
Seeing her smile, Caleb Summers instantly forgot his main reason for coming to the hospital. "Are you free tonight?" he asked. "Want to grab some hot pot?"
