Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 237: The Mole Sent by Nathan Fawcett

"What if she refuses to marry me?" Nathan Fawcett said. "She has that young, handsome uncle around. You saw Uncle Shields. Your mom likes his type, not mine."

There was a sour note in Nathan Fawcett’s voice as he said this.

He had brought Ian back and given Anne Sutton everything from the Fawcett Family, all just to draw a clear line between them.

It was to prevent himself from seeing her with someone else and being unable to resist meddling.

But now, she had delivered herself right to his doorstep.

If she wanted to be with Justin Shields, she would have to see if Ian approved!

Ian said, "What should we do then? It must be because you don’t treat her well."

"From now on, whenever you see her with Uncle Shields, tell me. Then, separate them for me. Don’t give Uncle Shields any opportunities. Can you do that?"

Ian looked at Nathan Fawcett, suspecting his father was setting a trap for him.

Nathan Fawcett said with a disappointed tone, "What, you don’t want to? Then you can forget about being with your mom, and you can forget about me marrying her. If you won’t even help me, no one will."

"I’ll do it," Ian said. "I’ll help you!"

Nathan Fawcett looked at his son and ruffled his hair. "Are you sleepy? You’ve been crying for so long."

Ian nodded.

Nathan Fawcett held him in his arms, looking at him gently.

He was usually cold and distant with everyone else, but with Ian, he was undoubtedly a devoted father.

That evening, Anne Sutton got off work a little late. Just as she walked out, she saw a car waiting for her at the corner.

The car window rolled down, and Ian’s little head poked out. "Mommy."

Ever since Nathan Fawcett had taken Ian away the night before last, Anne Sutton had been heartbroken. She had no idea when she would be able to see Ian next.

Seeing Ian’s beaming face now, Anne Sutton was very surprised. "What are you doing here?"

She instinctively glanced inside the car, expecting Nathan Fawcett to be there, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Anne Sutton asked, "Just you?"

Ian said, "Hurry and get in. I came to pick you up from work."

Looking at her son’s sweet, earnest expression, Anne Sutton got into the car.

Once inside, she realized the woman in the passenger seat was the housekeeper who used to look after her at the Fawcett family’s home.

Anne Sutton said, "Oh, it’s you!"

The housekeeper said, "Mr. Fawcett said he’s busy for the next couple of days, so he sent Ian to stay with you."

Anne Sutton was surprised to hear this. Nathan Fawcett had previously said she could only see Ian once a week, but now he was sending Ian over on his own initiative?

For Anne Sutton, this felt too good to be true!

She looked at Ian, her heart swelling with excitement. "Did your dad really say that?"

Ian nodded. "I cried and cried and begged him for a long time, so he agreed! Mommy, are you happy I came to find you?"

Anne Sutton nodded. "Of course I’m happy."

Ian said, "Let’s go home, then!"

Anne Sutton nodded. "Okay."

Back at home, with the housekeeper helping out, things were much less stressful for Anne Sutton.

Ian stood beside her, dutifully massaging her legs. "Mommy, is work really tough on you?"

Anne Sutton looked at the little guy and said, "It’s not so bad."

Ian said, "I’ll massage your legs for you, and you’ll feel all better."

Anne Sutton had to admit, his thoughtfulness was truly soothing her soul.

Just then, her phone rang. It was a call from Justin Shields.

He had been helping her look at properties for the past couple of days.

Anne Sutton answered the call. "Hello."

Justin Shields said, "I checked out two places. When are you free to come take a look?"

Anne Sutton said, "Sounds good. I’m off tomorrow."

She was also eager to get a new place settled, so it wouldn’t be so cramped when Ian and the housekeeper came to stay.

Justin Shields said, "I’ll get in touch with you tomorrow, then. You can also go pick up your car; they’ve already finished all the paperwork and even put the plates on for you."

Anne Sutton said, "Alright."

...

With Justin Shields’s help, everything moved along incredibly quickly.

The next morning, Anne Sutton took Ian to go look at houses.

Nathan Fawcett had said he would send Ian to her place for two days, and true to his word, he hadn’t actually come over to get in her way.

With Ian by her side and no need to see that jerk Nathan Fawcett, Anne Sutton felt exceptionally great.

When Justin Shields saw Anne Sutton and noticed she had Ian with her, he smiled and asked, "What’s Ian doing with you?"

Anne Sutton glanced at Ian and said, "Nathan Fawcett said he’s busy for the next two days, so he’s having Ian stay with me."

Justin Shields was a little surprised. "That’s not like him at all. I was sure he wouldn’t even let you two meet!"

Anne Sutton said, "I don’t know what he’s thinking either."

She really couldn’t figure him out.

She had been vehemently against it when Nathan Fawcett had said she could only see him once a week.

But now, over the course of the week, she’d spent almost half her time with Ian!

Ian stood to the side, staring at Justin Shields. His father had told him that his mother liked Justin, so he was now observing the man intently.

’Uncle Shields is really handsome, but if he gets together with Mommy, Mommy won’t want me anymore!’

He remembered those words clearly.

Anne Sutton said to Justin Shields, "Let’s go look at the houses. If one of them looks good, I’ll decide on it right away."

Justin Shields said, "Alright. I know you’re in a hurry to move in, so the places I found are all move-in ready. Take a look, and if one suits you, we can have everything finalized in a couple of days."

Anne Sutton said, "You’re pretty amazing. But, I hope helping me hasn’t interfered with your own work."

Justin Shields said, "Don’t mention it. I’m happy to do it. If it weren’t for Ethan Linden, we might have been married by now!"

Hearing the word "married," Anne Sutton froze for a moment.

’If I hadn’t been with Nathan Fawcett back then,’ she thought, ’if I hadn’t been trying to take back the Fawcett Family, I really might have listened to my mother and married Justin Shields.’

’To think that for Nathan Fawcett’s sake, she had never even considered living her own life properly, only to be so completely and utterly deceived by him.’

Seeing Justin Shields gazing at Anne Sutton, Ian quickly let go of her hand and wedged himself between them.

Seeing Ian suddenly run over, Justin Shields said, "What is it, Ian? Do you want Uncle Shields to hold your hand?"

Back when Ian thought Stella Shields was his mother, he used to call Justin Shields his uncle.

He used to like Justin Shields quite a lot.

Hearing Justin Shields’s words, Ian nodded. "Yeah."

Justin Shields reached out and took his hand. With his attention now completely on Ian, he didn’t get a chance to say anything more to Anne Sutton.

When they arrived at the property, Justin Shields showed Anne Sutton around. It was a villa, very nicely renovated.

Justin Shields said, "This house belongs to a friend of mine. His business has been in a slump for the past couple of years, so he wants to sell. The place itself is great, and the renovation is well done. If you like it, you could move in immediately."
