Chapter 208: Asking Charles Prescott for Help

"Let it go bankrupt, then!" Anne Sutton said as she looked at Sharon Sutton. "Why are you worried about it? In our dad’s eyes, he has a son now. Do you think he’s thinking about you and me? He wasn’t thinking about us when he did all those things, so why should we think about him now?"

Perhaps because he was her own father, Sharon Sutton couldn’t help but worry.

But Anne Sutton was different...

Her father had caused her to lose her child because of Charles Prescott all those years ago, and now, with this latest incident, she was filled with nothing but resentment.

Even if she had to watch the Sutton family go bankrupt, she wouldn’t care.

After all, she’d long since considered herself fatherless!

In the past, Sharon Sutton would have definitely thought Anne Sutton was going too far.

But after witnessing her father’s actions firsthand, she was now at a loss for words when it came to him.

After hearing what Anne Sutton said, she didn’t say anything more.

Anne Sutton looked at Sharon Sutton and said, "From now on, if he calls you again, just ignore him! There’s no need to listen to all his nonsense."

Sharon Sutton nodded. "It’s just that he seemed really anxious. He even asked me to apologize to Mom on his behalf."

"He’s never been worried about Mom," Anne Sutton said. "He’s just worried that he’s about to lose his company."

’If his company weren’t in trouble, would he apologize to Mom? No way in hell!’

Sharon Sutton heard Anne Sutton’s words but said nothing in response.

...

Having run out of options, Sean Sutton had no choice but to seek out Charles Prescott, even though Charles had already said he wouldn’t get involved in his affairs anymore.

But with his back against the wall, all he could do was cling to this last shred of hope.

Charles Prescott was already frustrated with matters concerning President Sterling, so he was in a foul mood.

Seeing Sean Sutton show up, he was clearly displeased. "What are you doing here?"

Sean Sutton said, "Charles, you have to help me! Please? Help me figure something out with the company. I promise, this is the last time I’ll beg you."

Charles Prescott knew full well why Sean had ended up in this mess. "You pissed off Anne, and that’s why things are the way they are. If I help you and she finds out, won’t she just hate me even more?"

In the past, he might not have cared about Anne Sutton’s feelings. But now, he could barely save his own skin and was counting on Anne to plead his case with Ethan Linden. Naturally, he wouldn’t do anything to get on her bad side.

Sean Sutton said, "Anne is my daughter, no matter what. She’s just angry right now; she’ll be fine once she calms down. We’re still family. You can’t just stand by and watch me go down! You’re a man, too. You know I just made the same mistake any man would make. Help me!"

Sean Sutton had been so stressed these past two days that his lips were chapped. Ever since Nathan Fawcett washed his hands of him, he hadn’t been able to sleep well at night.

Before, he still had the energy to have dinner with Maya Evans and her friends, but now he had absolutely no heart for it.

Because he knew that if he ran out of money, he would lose everything!

Charles Prescott said, "I’m sick of hearing ’this is the last time,’ yet you come back to me every time. Uncle Sutton, do you take me for a sucker? Are you going to keep holding the past over my head to threaten me?"

Hearing Charles Prescott’s words, Sean Sutton replied, "I helped you in the past. Are you just going to leave me to die now? If I had any other option, I would have found one by now. But I really don’t know what to do!"

Charles Prescott said, "I’ve told you before, you’re not fit to run your company anymore. You can’t manage it. You’re old, and you can’t keep up with the market! I’ve said it before: you should sell the company to me!"

"..." Sean Sutton was naturally unwilling to sell his company. "Isn’t there any other way?"

"If you want my help, this is the only solution I can offer." Charles Prescott was, in fact, interested in his company and wanted to buy it.

’This wasn’t help!’

Rather, acquiring Sean Sutton’s company would be very advantageous for him.

Sean Sutton looked at Charles Prescott and said, "This is my life’s work. I don’t want to give it up."

"Then go to jail," Charles Prescott said. "Or just wait for your company to go bankrupt. It’s all the same to me. When you’ve come to your senses, come find me then."

Hearing this, Sean Sutton clenched his fists. He looked at Charles Prescott, gritted his teeth, and relented, "That three-billion price you mentioned before..."

’It’s too low,’ he thought, wanting to ask for more.

Hearing this, Charles Prescott said, "Your company now isn’t what it was before. The three billion will have to be lowered. I can’t give you that much anymore."

Sean Sutton had been hoping to negotiate a higher price, so hearing that Charles Prescott not only refused to raise it but actually wanted to lower it, he couldn’t help but feel that the man was deliberately taking advantage of him!

He said, "Charles Prescott, we’re practically family. Don’t take this too far! Setting everything else aside, even out of respect for the many years of friendship between your father and me, you can’t treat me like this! Especially since I’ve done favors for you."

Charles Prescott replied, "Go and see if anyone out there will give you a better price. Don’t you know how much debt your company is in? Ethan Linden invested in you before, and I saw no improvement. You’re at the end of your rope. My money doesn’t grow on trees, you know. After acquiring your company, I’ll have to pour even more money into it to cover losses. You should be thanking your lucky stars that I’m even willing to help you avoid bankruptcy!"

"Forget it! I’m not selling!" Sean Sutton stood up. "You’ll regret not helping me."

With that, he walked straight out of Charles Prescott’s office.

He had gone to great trouble to come see Charles Prescott, only to find out that he couldn’t be relied on either.

As Sean Sutton stepped into the hallway, he saw Butler Walters and Nathan Fawcett.

The moment he saw Nathan Fawcett, he rushed forward as if he’d seen a glimmer of hope. "Mr. Faw—... Mr. Linden."

With one hand in his pocket, Nathan Fawcett looked at Sean Sutton, his gaze cold. "Why are you here?"

Butler Walters glanced in the direction Sean Sutton had come from. "Have you just come from Charles Prescott’s office?"

Hearing this, Sean Sutton said awkwardly, "I came to discuss something with Charles Prescott."

"Suit yourself. I have things to do." Nathan Fawcett started to walk away, but Sean Sutton followed him. "Mr. Linden, I know you’re angry with me because of my family affairs. I know I was wrong! Tell me what to do, and I’ll do it! Anything, as long as you can forgive me..."

Nathan Fawcett glanced at him. "I’ve already helped you once. As for now... unless Anne comes to me and asks me herself, I will not help you."

"But there’s no way Anne will see me! I can’t even get a meeting with her! She’s my daughter, and she’s avoiding me. Not only that, but I can’t even go to the hospital."

The more he spoke, the more frustrated and wronged Sean Sutton felt.

Ever since Maya Evans showed up at the hospital, it was as if his family had simply vanished.

He couldn’t see his wife or his two daughters, and even when he returned to the Sutton family home, there wasn’t a soul in sight.

’It’s enough to drive a man crazy!’
