Chapter 209: He’s Going Back Next Month
Nathan Fawcett said, "You know perfectly well why things have turned out this way. If you knew it would come to this, why did you do it in the first place? You feel wronged, but don’t you think Mrs. Sutton feels wronged too?"
Nathan Fawcett had never liked Sean Sutton. Mrs. Sutton, on the other hand, had once cooked a meal for him, and he still remembered that kindness.
Now that Sean Sutton was mistreating her so badly, Nathan naturally sided with her and her daughter.
There was no way he would help Sean Sutton.
Sean Sutton said, "Then help me put in a good word with Anne. Ask her what she wants me to do! I know I was wrong. I’ll do anything she asks, I just hope I can save the company."
Nathan Fawcett said, "I can’t help you."
With that, he turned and left.
Sean Sutton tried to follow him, but the butler had someone stop him.
Sean Sutton watched Nathan Fawcett’s retreating back, realizing he was completely powerless against him.
Nathan Fawcett wasn’t like Charles Prescott. He had leverage over Charles, but he had nothing on Nathan...
Unless Nathan himself was willing, there was absolutely nothing he could do.
...
That evening, when Nathan Fawcett returned home, he saw Anne Sutton standing in the kitchen doorway. The housekeeper was cooking, and Anne was giving her pointers from the side.
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and asked, "What are you doing?"
He walked over and stood beside her.
Anne Sutton glanced at him and said, "I’m teaching the housekeeper how to cook."
"Teaching the housekeeper how to cook?" Nathan Fawcett was confused.
Anne Sutton said, "Don’t you and Ian like my cooking? When you two go back, someone will have to cook for you!"
’She couldn’t stay by their side forever, so all she could do was teach her skills to someone else.’
Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett just looked at her.
Her words made his heart ache a little.
He looked at Anne Sutton, realizing that she had never once considered going back to Veridia with him one day.
’Then again...’
’They were from two different worlds now. Her family was here, too. There was no way she would follow him back to Veridia.’
Nathan Fawcett said, "I’m going to check on Ian."
With that, he went upstairs, changed his clothes, and then came back down.
When he came over carrying Ian, dinner was ready. The housekeeper had cooked the meal according to Anne Sutton’s instructions.
Anne Sutton stood to one side, waving at Nathan Fawcett and Ian. "Hurry, come and have a taste. See how the housekeeper did."
The housekeeper stood nearby, watching the father and son nervously.
Nathan Fawcett put Ian down and took a seat himself.
The housekeeper served them their food.
Anne Sutton put some food on Ian’s plate and said, "Go on, eat!"
Ian took a couple of bites, and both the housekeeper and Anne Sutton watched him nervously. "How is it?"
Ian said, "It’s okay. Not as good as my mom’s cooking."
The housekeeper said awkwardly, "I’ll keep practicing."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at Anne Sutton.
Ian looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "Mom, is it too much trouble for you to cook for me? If you don’t want to, you don’t have to anymore. I don’t mind. Even though the housekeeper’s cooking isn’t as good as yours, I can put up with it. You only have to cook for me when you feel like it."
Looking at the little boy’s considerate expression, Anne Sutton smiled and said, "Then let’s just have the housekeeper keep practicing until she makes it just the way you like it."
Ian said, "No, I want you to make it."
"Silly boy." Anne Sutton put more food on his plate. "Come on, eat up! Weren’t you just saying how hungry you were?"
Ian gazed at Anne Sutton. ’What he really wanted wasn’t her cooking, but for her to always be by his side. But he always had this feeling that Anne Sutton was going to leave him. Was he going to become a boy without a mother again, just like before?’
Seeing that Ian didn’t have much of an appetite, Anne Sutton picked up some food, tried it, and said, "I think it’s delicious! Why don’t you two like it?"
’Ian was one thing—he was a child, so it was fine for him to be a little picky. But even Nathan Fawcett, sitting across from her, didn’t seem to have much of an appetite.’
Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and said, "It’s nothing. I’m just not hungry."
Anne Sutton said, "You’re not hungry now, but don’t come crying to me in the middle of the night that you’re starving."
Hearing her words, the corner of Nathan Fawcett’s mouth twitched.
He said to Anne Sutton, "Your dad went to the company to find Charles Prescott today."
"Oh," Anne Sutton said. "Not surprising. He was bound to go looking for him. He didn’t bother you, did he?"
’Anne Sutton didn’t have a problem with Sean Sutton going to see Charles Prescott. It would be best if they just annoyed each other to death! Her father had leverage over Charles Prescott, so now that he was in trouble, he would definitely go to him for help.’
Nathan Fawcett said, "He asked me to talk you around, too, but I didn’t agree."
"What’s the use of him asking you to persuade me? Does he think a few words of persuasion are enough to make up for what he’s done?" Anne Sutton said, "I’ve been thinking a lot lately that I must have really bad luck to be stuck with a father like him. Whenever I think about it, I feel like I’m about to get depressed."
Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "Don’t dwell on it. Everyone faces all sorts of things in life. The important thing is that you never become too pessimistic, no matter what happens."
Anne Sutton nodded. "Mm."
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, "By the way, things are a bit busy back in Veridia. If nothing unexpected comes up, Ian and I will be heading back at the beginning of next month."
Hearing this, Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. "Didn’t you say you’d settle things with the company before you went back?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "I will settle it before then."
’He had already laid his cards on the table with Chairman Grant. Inheriting the Fawcett Group wouldn’t be difficult. It was just that he had some other matters to handle right now.’
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett in surprise and asked, "So soon?"
"I’ve been here for a long time."
"So after you go back to Veridia, you’ll come back, right?" Anne Sutton said. "Once the company is in your hands, you’ll have to manage it."
"Not necessarily," Nathan Fawcett said. "I have a lot to do over there. I don’t know when I’ll be back. We’ll see."
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett’s indifferent expression, then glanced at Ian.
’She was okay when it came to Nathan... She knew she had no future with him, so she didn’t have any expectations. But Ian... She couldn’t bear to part with him! Ever since Ian arrived, she no longer felt that old ache in her heart whenever she thought of her own baby. Ian’s arrival had saved her. But there was nothing she could do about Nathan taking him back.’
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Then what about the company here? Are you going to find someone to manage it?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "I have it under control."
’Seeing how composed he was, Anne Sutton figured it made sense. He understood these things better than she did. Since he said he had it under control, he must have already made all the arrangements.’
Anne Sutton said, "When the company holds a meeting, let me know. I’d like to go and see."
