Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne and said, "Sharon, see your sister out."

Seeing her mother in this state, Anne sighed. She wanted to say more, but Sharon pulled her outside. "Mom’s been through enough today. Let’s go out for now! We can talk about the divorce later."

"How can we talk about it later? I can’t stand it for another second."

Sharon said, "Mom’s worried about you too; she doesn’t want this to affect your work. And you saw how Dad acted—he has no intention of divorcing Mom! Just let her think about it. They’ve been married for so many years. If this marriage is really going to end, she needs time to process it."

Anne looked at Sharon and said, "Fine! Just comfort her, okay? We’ll bring this up again after she’s had a couple of days to rest."

She admitted to herself that she had been too hasty, forgetting that her mother had only just learned the news. Of course her mother was in a terrible state right now.

...

Anne left her mother’s hospital room. Not wanting her foul mood to rub off on them, she went outside and sat down.

Before long, Charles Prescott walked over. Seeing her sitting there, he sat down beside her. He looked at Anne and said, "I heard about what happened with your family."

Anne looked at Charles Prescott. "You must be gloating, aren’t you? My dad is the same kind of person as you—you’re both equally disgusting! Now’s your perfect chance to come and laugh at me!"

Hearing her words, Charles Prescott said, "I just came to see how you’re doing."

"See how I’m doing?" Anne sneered. "Stop with the fake concern! You’re the one who’s really my dad’s son, otherwise he wouldn’t protect you so much! Just as I thought, you’re both the same kind of scum! That’s why you’re in cahoots."

’I thought Charles Prescott was bad enough, but I never imagined my own father could be even worse.’

Charles Prescott looked at Anne and said, "I have a proposal. I wonder if you’d be interested."

"I’m not interested." Anne stood up, about to leave.

Charles Prescott grabbed her hand, not letting her go, and pulled her back. "Hear me out."

"..." Anne looked at him. "Let go of me."

Seeing her defiant expression, Charles Prescott quickly pulled his hand back, making sure not to touch her.

Charles Prescott said, "I want to take over your dad’s company. All you have to do is make sure Ethan Linden doesn’t get in the way! With your dad acting like this, you can’t possibly want to protect him anymore, right? Even if you did, everything in the company will just go to his illegitimate son! Knowing his personality, there’s no way he’d leave anything to you and your sister."

Anne stared at Charles Prescott. "Clever you, still scheming for my family’s company at a time like this. Charles Prescott, you’re truly disgusting!"

Charles Prescott said, "Have you thought about it? If I acquire it, the Sutton Family’s company will still be under the Fawcett Group. You’re part of the Fawcett Family now, so you won’t be losing out, will you?"

"..." Anne said, "I won’t agree to it."

"I’m just trying to help you solve your problems."

"I’d rather die than work with someone like you!"

Hearing her words, Charles Prescott leaned in closer to her. "When did things get so bad between us? Tell me, Anne. We weren’t like this before."

"And you have no idea why we ended up like this?" Anne said. "Mr. Prescott really is forgetful!"

"Anne..." Charles Prescott looked at her icy expression. "Do I not even have the right to care about you anymore? I heard what happened with your family and came running to comfort you right away. I’ve already spoken to the hospital director and told him not to give you any trouble, so today’s incident won’t affect your job. I did all of this just hoping that you could forgive me for what I did in the past."

As he said this, Charles Prescott didn’t even bat an eye.

Previously, Stella Shields had told him that if he wanted to hold on to his place in the Fawcett Group, he had to win over Anne Sutton.

So that’s what he was trying to do now.

Of course, besides Stella Shields’s suggestion, what he was saying to Anne now wasn’t entirely just for show.

He really did hope her attitude toward him would soften, just a little.

Just a little bit would be enough.

Anne said, "I will never forgive you."

Charles Prescott sighed. "I know. Nothing I do now is any use, is it? Come on, I’ll take you somewhere."

With that, he stood up.

Anne sat still. "I’m not interested."

"You don’t want to see that little brother of yours?"

At this, Anne looked up at Charles Prescott.

Charles Prescott knew this would interest her. "You must be dying to know their address, right?"

"You know all this?"

Charles Prescott said, "When it comes to you, is there anything I don’t know?"

After saying this, he looked at Anne and said, "Let’s go."

He was about to reach out and pull her, but Anne dodged him.

However, Anne still followed Charles Prescott out the door.

At the entrance, Grace was already waiting.

She stood in front of the car, and upon seeing the two of them, opened the car door.

Charles Prescott got in the car first.

Grace saw Anne and said, "Ms. Sutton, please."

Anne glanced at her and got in the car.

Charles Prescott didn’t sit with Anne, but instead took the front passenger seat, leaving Grace and Anne to sit in the back.

In the car, Anne looked at Charles Prescott and asked, "Do you really know where my dad is?"

Charles Prescott said, "Mm."

"It seems you’ve known about my dad’s affair for a long time!"

Hearing her, Charles Prescott glanced back at her over his shoulder. "Sorry. I wanted to tell you before, but I was afraid it would upset you. You know how it is—with things like this, there’s no right way to say it."

Sometimes, it was better not to know.

After all, knowing would only cause more trouble.

Anne looked at Charles Prescott, her fingers digging hard into her palm.

...

Soon, the car pulled up in front of a small villa.

Charles Prescott said, "We’re here."

He then opened the door and got out.

He also opened the car door for Anne.

Anne looked at his forward gesture, furrowed her brow slightly, and got out of the car.

A single glance was enough to tell the villa wasn’t cheap.

Anne found the thought laughable. ’All of this was bought with my father’s money. He took the money he earned to keep a mistress, and what was I doing this whole time? Enduring humiliation and making compromises for the sake of his company. If it weren’t for the Sutton Family, I wouldn’t have married Nathan Fawcett. I wouldn’t have stayed by Charles Prescott’s side all those years as his fiancée, letting him cheat on me relentlessly! What a joke!’

Charles Prescott looked at Anne without a word, then gave Grace a look. Grace went to knock on the door.

The person who opened the door was a maid from the Evans Family. Seeing Grace, she asked, "You are...?"

"Hello, I’m Mr. Charles Prescott’s assistant. He’s here to see Mr. Sutton about something."

The maid’s eyes lit up at the name Charles Prescott. She glanced over and saw that it really was him; she recognized him from his occasional appearances in the media.

She said, "Please, come in."

Then she let them in.

Charles Prescott glanced at Anne and said, "Let’s go."

Anne followed him through the door.
