Before Lu Yuan could finish, Su Liyan was already dressed and ready to go.

Lu Yuan paused. "Alright, then! Come with me. I’ll call up the Mansion Guards from the Martial Hall to go with us."

A smile spread across Su Liyan’s face. She gave Lu Yuan a peck on the cheek and said, "Let’s go, darling!"

Lu Yuan and Su Liyan didn’t alert anyone else. They just called twenty of their trusted men, left the Lu Mansion, and drove to the Martial Hall outside the city.

A procession of twenty-one cars headed majestically toward the city outskirts. The guards at the city gate saw they were vehicles from the Lu Mansion and hastily opened the gates to let them pass.

Not far past the city gates, Su Liyan said, a little embarrassed, "Darling, can you pull over? We left in such a hurry... I need to pee!"

Lu Yuan let off the gas and pulled the car over to the side of the road, with the twenty other cars backing up behind them.

Lu Yuan got out and waved to the cars behind them. "Go on, go on! You guys go ahead!"

After the twenty trusted men had driven off, Su Liyan darted into the woods by the roadside, found a clear spot, and squatted down.

While squatting, Su Liyan suddenly sensed something watching her. "Who’s there?" she called out.

"Sister, it’s me!" A little girl floated out from behind a tree.

"Yunyun? What are you doing here? Why are you wandering around in the middle of the night?" Su Liyan asked, pulling her dress back up.

Yunyun floated over to Su Liyan’s side and spun around a few times.

Su Liyan stood there, exasperated. She put on a stern face and chided, "Stop floating around! You’re making me dizzy!"

Yunyun landed on the ground. "Sister, I heard you were back, so I wanted to come see you. And just now, I sensed you were nearby."

Su Liyan dusted off her dress. "I’ve been back for a few days, but I have to go out on a trip again."

Yunyun drifted closer. She was only about waist-high to Su Liyan and had to look up to ask, "Sister, where are you going?"

Su Liyan didn’t hide anything and laid out her darling’s entire plan for her.

After Lu Yuan and Su Liyan drove away, Yunyun darted onto the road. Watching their car disappear into the distance, she muttered, "She won’t let me go? I’m going anyway!"

The unarmed soldiers who originally belonged to Gu Zhaolian couldn’t make sense of what was happening. All they knew was that they were supposed to fight the Little Easterners!

These bare-handed soldiers were in the minority and had been kept in the dark. In contrast, another group of masked men who charged out from elsewhere were Gu Zhaolian’s personal guard.

These masked men were loyal only to Gu Zhaolian. They charged forward, vowing to rescue their master.

Gu Gaoxu hauled Gu Zhaolian up with one hand and began to retreat to the high ground, shouting, "Gu Zhaolian has committed treason and sided with the enemy! Anyone who’s with me, retreat to the high ground!"
