Chapter 12: Nick Fury, King of Lies

"There are large amounts of different mysterious substances on it, similar to the blood of some advanced life-form."

"These substances are decomposing into carbohydrates at an extremely rapid rate. We can’t stop it!"

"Report, we failed. The substances on it cannot be extracted, and they have already completely dissipated."

Facing the scientists’ declaration that the analysis had failed, Alexander Pierce, the current director of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division, who bore a faint resemblance to a certain future President Trump, turned to look at the person beside him.

"Agent Fury, you have accomplished countless great merits and fully demonstrated your ability to the World Security Council..."

At this point, Alexander Pierce paused slightly. "I’m already old, and I’ll soon be stepping back from the front line. Perhaps you can inherit my mantle, old friend."

"I think you can still work another twenty or thirty years."

Nick Fury spoke half-jokingly.

He did not know that the superior before him was stepping from the light into the shadows, nor did he know that the man was a member of Hydra. At this moment, he still felt a faint surge of excitement over his upcoming promotion.

However, amid that excitement, Nick Fury also felt that something was slightly strange. His superior seemed a little too happy.

"No, I’m already tired. The future belongs to you."

Alexander Pierce now looked like a benevolent elder supporting a junior. As he spoke, he went forward to meet the scientist walking out with the Olympian Sword.

After taking the iron sword wrapped in white cloth from the scientist, Pierce suddenly asked, "Nick, where did you get this sword?"

"Are there any analysis results?"

Nick Fury did not answer directly and instead turned the question back on him.

"The report will be out soon."

Pierce gave Nick Fury a deep look, then stopped speaking.

Five minutes later, Pierce took a printed document from an agent and began flipping through it.

"This sword came from Hela."

Nick Fury suddenly spoke.

"Hela?"

"The Goddess of Death from Norse mythology."

"Agent Fury, are you joking?"

Pierce slowly lowered the documents in his hand and turned his head, staring seriously into Nick Fury’s eyes... eye.

"If the Dragon’s Jewel can be real, why can’t Hela be?"

Nick Fury smiled and asked in return.

That sentence immediately plunged Alexander Pierce into silence.

After staring blankly for half a minute, Alexander Pierce lowered his head and began quickly flipping through the documents.

Dragon’s Jewel. As a member of Hydra, he was far too familiar with that name.

"According to the tests, the genetic sequence of the owner of the blood residue on this sword is completely different from humans. Based on this bizarre sequence, this creature would possess many unusual characteristics."

Alexander Pierce spoke.

"What characteristics?"

Nick Fury asked.

"Long lifespan, vigorous vitality, and muscles capable of storing more energy."

Alexander Pierce turned to the next page. "But there is too little reference data. That’s all we have."

"As the Goddess of Death from Norse mythology, it isn’t strange for Hela’s sword to be stained with the blood of gods."

Nick Fury spoke with an utterly calm expression.

He had already decided that, just as he had concealed the existence of Captain Marvel Carol, he would conceal Orion Cross’s existence from the world.

For that reason, he did not hesitate to throw out Hela as a shield.

The lies that could truly confuse people were often nine parts truth and one part falsehood.

And Nick Fury was an expert in this field.

"It says here that during testing, for one brief millisecond, the testing machine was struck by a strange and powerful electric current. At least eight hundred thousand volts. Part of the machine was damaged."

Alexander Pierce continued flipping through the documents and read it aloud.

"As the evil Queen of the Underworld, it would not be strange for Hela to have fought Thor, the God of Thunder."

Nick Fury continued lying through his teeth.

In reality, Nick Fury was secretly shocked at this moment.

As expected of Zeus, the former King of the Olympian gods. Even after the pantheon had faded away, a trace of his power still remained on the sword.

Of course, Nick Fury did not know that Orion Cross’s system storage space had a "freshness preservation" function.

If things placed inside did not tend toward a state of stopped time, Helios’s head and the Olympian Sword would have completely rotted away long ago. How could they possibly still retain a trace of power?

"You’re right, but what a pity."

Pierce expressed agreement with Nick Fury’s analysis and guesses, while also letting out a sigh.

What a pity.

Alexander Pierce was heartbroken.

Because the document had already stated right at the beginning that this sword had become an utterly ordinary iron sword, without any power or supernatural energy left.

If this sword had retained its former glory, then just as Red Skull had used the Dragon’s Jewel to become a super-criminal capable of opposing Captain America, Alexander Pierce could have risen in one leap with this sword.

Unfortunately, there were no ifs.

"Did you make a deal with that Goddess of Death?"

Alexander Pierce tossed the documents aside and suddenly asked.

Among the agents who had followed Nick Fury to help Orion Cross run the internet cable, there were naturally no shortage of Hydra spies.

So Alexander Pierce, who had suddenly thought of this point, felt a trace of additional expectation.

"Yes, but I’m not sure whether that place is the entrance to the underworld or somewhere else. Right now, I can no longer enter."

Nick Fury naturally did not conceal anything and said it directly and openly.

In reality, Captain Marvel Carol was about to leave Earth soon. Once that happened, no one would be able to enter that region anymore.

Even if Nick Fury brought every agent and scientist to the edge of that sealed area, they would not be able to detect anything at all.
