Chapter 72: Thawing the Old Popsicle

"Help!"

"Help!"

"Run!"

As the glacier cracked apart, a group of expedition members wearing several layers of thermal clothing fled across the frozen land in panic.

"There’s still a little left. You’re pretty lucky."

Orion Cross threw the spear carrying the final trace of natural energy toward the ground. The spear fell and stabbed into the ice directly in front of a female expedition member.

"What... what is this?"

The female expedition member looked around, trying to find where the spear had come from. After failing to discover anything, she grabbed the spear with both hands and tried to pull it out and take it away.

"Sharon, forget that thing! Run!"

When the other expedition members saw this, they shouted warnings while retreating. The glacier was splitting apart at terrifying speed. By the time the female expedition member named Sharon reacted, countless cracks had already reached right in front of her.

"Ah!"

Sharon screamed, clutching the spear tightly as she closed her eyes. She truly did not dare imagine what would happen next. Would she fall into the icy ocean below and freeze to death alive? Or would she drown first, then be treated as food by a polar bear?

However, even after more than ten seconds passed, she still did not feel herself falling.

"It stopped? It stopped?"

"God bless us! My God!"

The cheers of the surviving expedition members came from the distance. Sharon slowly opened her eyes and saw a man standing in front of her, while the crack had stopped right at his feet.

"Are you Steve Rogers?"

Sharon stared blankly at Orion Cross, who was holding a shield, and asked.

"The person you’re talking about is over there."

Orion Cross pointed at a chunk of broken ice behind her. "Also, miss, you can let go of my spear now."

"Huh? Oh!"

Sharon came back to her senses and released the Star-Piercing Spear with both hands. At that moment, exactly one hour had passed, and the spear and shield gradually scattered into points of starlight.

"Aren’t you going to look at the person you were searching for?"

Orion Cross pointed behind her again.

"My God, who is this?"

Sharon looked in the direction Orion Cross pointed and immediately cried out in shock. Inside that broken chunk of ice created by the glacier’s collapse, there was actually a vague human figure.

"Who do you think it is?"

Orion Cross walked toward the giant piece of broken ice. To be honest, even he had not expected things to be this coincidental. While dealing with Obadiah, he had conveniently fished out this old popsicle that had been frozen for decades.

Captain America Series Mission Triggered: Thaw the Old Popsicle.

Mission Description: Steve Rogers has been frozen for seventy years. It is time for this son of the beach to wake up.

Mission Details: Thaw Steve Rogers with a microwave and make him wake up.

Orion Cross: "..."

When he walked up to the broken ice sealing Captain America and looked at the newly triggered mission, Orion Cross was instantly speechless. Putting aside whether Captain America could even survive being thawed in a microwave, where was Orion Cross supposed to find a microwave big enough to thaw him out? Was he supposed to go find Hank Pym and borrow Pym Particles?

That old man was stubborn as hell. He did not even trust Howard Stark. Unless there was a chance to save his wife, Pym Particles were his lifeline.

"It really is the Captain! We finally found him! This is great!"

After the other expedition members came over and Sharon told them about the ice, they went forward to investigate. Once they confirmed it, they immediately started cheering.

While her teammates cheered, Sharon walked back over and blinked as she asked, "Aren’t you cold wearing so little? Or did you also receive the Super Soldier Serum?"

"Do you think only that outdated serum in this world can give people power?"

Orion Cross smiled and asked back.

Sharon’s delicate brows furrowed slightly, as if she was a little angry that Orion Cross looked down on the Super Soldier Serum. "I’m Sharon Carter, from the Strategic Homeland..."

"All right, Master, stop chanting. I know your boss."

Orion Cross hurriedly interrupted her. Right now, whenever he heard these agents seriously reciting the full name of S.H.I.E.L.D., his head hurt.

"You know our boss?"

Sharon stared at Orion Cross with a face full of suspicion.

"Call Motherfucker Man and you’ll know."

"Motherfucker Man?"

"Nick Fury."

"Fine."

Sharon took out her phone and dialed a number. Ordinary low-level and mid-level agents naturally were not qualified to casually call the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Some of them did not even have his number. But Sharon was the niece of Peggy Carter, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s founders. She was a classic example of the next generation riding the waves left by the previous one.

"Hello? Yes. All right. Understood."

After a simple phone call, the way Sharon looked at Orion Cross changed instantly. Nick Fury had not told her Orion Cross’s specific information, but the phrase "Level Ten classified, you are not authorized to know" alone stirred a great deal of curiosity in her. After all, the mission in which their group of agents and scientists had disguised themselves as an Arctic expedition team to search for Steve Rogers was only Level Eight classified.

"When is a plane coming to send me back to New York?"

Seeing Sharon hang up, Orion Cross asked. The Iron Man suit had already been stored in Orion Cross’s system space. He would not wear it, but that did not mean the thing was useless.

"In half an hour."

Sharon loosened her hat, and her golden hair slipped down. "The Director asked me to thank you for helping find the Captain."

"If he really wants to thank me, then he should get rid of that habit of suddenly appearing in other people’s homes. Especially with that skin color of his that blends into the night. It’s easy to scare children."

"Ha. If the Director heard what you said, he’d definitely be furious and start swearing again."

"Otherwise, why would he be called Motherfucker Man? Wearing an eyepatch like that, he should be called a Caribbean pirate instead."

Orion Cross and Sharon, one wrapped in thick thermal clothing and fully armed, the other wearing only a casual shirt, sat there in the snow, chatting right in front of the frozen Captain America.

Twenty minutes later, two Quinjets slowly landed on the ice.

"Why is it you again? Didn’t I say I’m allergic to bald men?"

Seeing Coulson appear again, Orion Cross smiled and spoke.

"I’m not bald. I’m just shaved... Wait, no!"

Because his idol was not far away, Coulson became incoherent for a moment.

"How long do you think thawing him will take?"

Watching the scientists and agents who had gotten off the aircraft cutting the ice over there, Orion Cross walked over to Coulson and asked.

"I’m not sure, but they’ve already detected that the Captain still has a heartbeat. Right now, he seems more like he’s in hibernation."

Coulson stared seriously at the staff, afraid they would make a mistake and accidentally kill his idol.

"Remember to notify me once he’s thawed."

Orion Cross did not bother listening to Coulson talk about professional terms. After leaving that sentence behind, he directly boarded another Quinjet with the other agents, expedition members, and scientists.

"Strange."

Watching the Quinjet carrying Orion Cross fly away, Coulson felt a little puzzled. Did Orion Cross care about the Captain’s recovery or not? If he cared, why did he leave? If he did not care, why did he ask Coulson to notify him immediately after the Captain was thawed?

No matter how hard Coulson thought about it, he would never guess that Orion Cross simply wanted to see whether a new mission would appear after the old popsicle was thawed.
