Chapter 71: Using an Anti-Aircraft Cannon to Kill a Mosquito
"Let him freeze until he’s in despair? Then at the very least, he needs to wake up first, right?"
Orion Cross looked at the unconscious bald Obadiah inside the Iron Man suit, picked up a small icicle from the ground, and stabbed it into his philtrum. Obadiah let out a scream and was jolted awake by the pain.
"Jarvis, maintain the basic temperature needed to keep him alive. Contact me immediately once he’s about to die."
Orion Cross knocked on the armor and spoke. When he asked Tony for this suit of armor, Orion Cross had conveniently made Tony modify the permissions. The right to handle the suit, as well as temporary access to Jarvis, had both been obtained by Orion Cross.
"Understood, sir."
"Where am I?"
Obadiah opened his eyes in confusion. After seeing Orion Cross, he struggled to stand up.
"You’re on an Arctic glacier. Enjoy that bone-chilling feeling. I’ll go breathe some fresh air first. See you later."
Orion Cross leaped out of the ice pit smashed open by Great Wasteland Starfall and landed on the surface.
"Wait! Don’t go! Let me leave! How much money do you want?"
Seeing Orion Cross leave, Obadiah instantly panicked. The surrounding temperature was gradually eroding his body heat, and right now, he was only wearing a suit. How was he supposed to withstand the cold? Obadiah struggled twice and realized that he had already been trapped by the very suit of armor he had coveted so much.
"Jarvis? Let me out! I order you as a shareholder of Stark Industries!"
"Apologies, Mr. Obadiah. Tony has already placed you on the blacklist. You no longer have any permissions."
"Tony Stark!"
Obadiah let out a roar of hatred. However, it was nothing more than impotent rage. In fact, it only accelerated the loss of his body heat. Just as Obadiah exhaled, closed his eyes, and began thinking about how to escape, a voice drifted down from outside the pit.
"It’s fine. Keep shouting. People’s physiques are different. The Hulk can break free from armor restraints when he’s extremely angry. You can give it a try too."
After throwing down those words, Orion Cross turned and left. However, he did not go far. Instead, he sat down on the nearest small hill. When Orion Cross had crashed down earlier, he had seen the team from the Arctic research station. He knew very well that these scientific researchers had the kind of curiosity that did not fear death and would definitely come over to investigate. So he could not go too far. Otherwise, if Obadiah happened to get lucky and was rescued, that would be hilarious.
"Making Obadiah despair because of the cold is simple, but thirty billion joules per second of energy..."
Orion Cross touched the back of his hand, where a savage black pattern suddenly appeared.
High Noon Demon Contract. Orion Cross had once used it when fighting Captain Marvel, Carol. It allowed him to randomly contract a demon, voluntarily open control of his body, draw the demon into himself, and obtain all of the demon’s power. As for the side effect, if his will was not firm enough, the demon might occupy his body. That was all. But to be honest, if the energy output required this time had not been too high, Orion Cross had no idea when he would ever use this ability again.
A random demon. The first two times had been Aatrox and Lilith, both god-and-demon-level beings from their respective worlds. But if his luck was bad and he used this ability in battle, only to summon a succubus, a roaring demon, or a low-level imp, that would be incredibly stupid.
"Speaking of which, it won’t give me a low-level demon this time, right?"
The more Orion Cross thought about it, the more likely it felt, especially since his luck had been excellent the previous two times.
"Contract."
"Seven?"
Orion Cross’s expression gradually turned puzzled. Why did he not feel the slightest increase in strength?
"Nya-ha-ha-ha-ha! So you are the one who summoned the great demon Satania? Worship me... Achoo! So cold! Where is this?!"
A girl dressed like a high school student in a short skirt suddenly appeared in front of Orion Cross and began laughing loudly. Halfway through her laughter, she sneezed hard and wrapped her arms around herself, shivering all over.
"...I knew it."
Seeing this so-called "demon," Orion Cross instantly knew that his idea of borrowing demonic power to complete the mission had gone up in smoke.
"Hey, where are you going? What kind of irresponsible summoner are you? I’m going to freeze to death!"
Seeing Orion Cross turn to leave, the girl who had neither demonic power nor a demonic appearance hurriedly chased after him and blocked his path.
"This is the Arctic. There’s a research station over there. If you don’t want to freeze to death, go stay there for an hour, and then you’ll be able to go back."
Orion Cross looked speechlessly at the useless demon in front of him and pointed at the faintly visible research station tents in the distance.
"Huh? Really?"
The young demon girl named Satania froze slightly, then immediately ran toward the research station while shouting as she ran, "Help! Is anyone there? I’m going to freeze to death!"
"I might as well try a little here."
Sitting slowly on the glacier, Orion Cross began attempting to absorb the natural energy around him. Since demonic power would not work, he could only try entering the Vastayashai’rei’s "Sage Mode." And the North and South Poles were probably the only places in this world that had not been polluted.
As the natural energy of the Arctic Ocean was drawn into Orion Cross’s body, a layer of frost gradually condensed on his back. That layer of frost grew thicker and thicker, and in form, it gradually solidified into a pair of wings made entirely of ice.
The phone in Orion Cross’s pocket suddenly rang, stopping his absorption of natural energy and making him open his eyes.
"What is this supposed to be? Anivia? Daiguren Hyorinmaru?"
Looking at the pair of ice crystal wings on his back, Orion Cross clenched his fist, felt his strength for a moment, then answered the phone.
"Sir, Obadiah’s vital signs have dropped to the minimum."
Jarvis’s voice came from the phone.
"OK. I’ll be right there."
"Now, immediately take the armor off Obadiah and wait on the surface. After that, you can return and report back."
After giving Jarvis his final command, Orion Cross hung up the phone and shot into the air.
"Command received."
Immediately afterward, a golden-red figure flew out of the pit and stopped on an ice mound not far away.
"Goodbye. You’re the first bald villain to die, but you definitely won’t be the last."
As Orion Cross’s words fell, the ice crystal wings on his back instantly shattered, transforming into a spiraling polar storm that rushed toward Obadiah in the pit. Inside the pit, Obadiah was already on the verge of death. Under the polar storm created by natural energy, he did not even have time to let out a scream before not a single bone remained.
This, perhaps, was what they called using an anti-aircraft cannon to kill a mosquito.
However, thirty billion joules per second of energy was enough to cause the surrounding glaciers to collapse on a massive scale. The entire ice surface began to crack apart.
