Chapter 69: The First Boss Ran Away!
Beep beep.
The car stopped directly in front of Stark Tower.
"You can stay in the car and assist us through the surveillance cameras. Rest properly."
Orion Cross pressed Skye, who had been about to get out of the car, back into her seat and spoke. The feeling of being hit by an infrasonic weapon was not pleasant. Skye was still an ordinary person right now, so she definitely had not fully recovered yet.
"Mm."
Skye nodded slightly, took a laptop from behind her, and placed it on her lap. "As long as you don’t run into that man face-to-face, invade however you want. I’ll handle the alarms."
"Works for me."
Orion Cross closed the car door and looked at the others. "If there’s no problem, let’s go in."
"Wait a moment."
Coulson, who was on the phone, raised one hand. After quietly saying a few words to the other end of the call, he walked over to Pepper.
"Miss Pepper, Colonel Rhodes from the Air Force sent word that an unidentified flying object was detected taking off from Tony’s residence. The unidentified flying object has already flown out of New York. Do you know what happened?"
Pepper shook her head in confusion. "Maybe it’s some new invention he developed. I don’t know much about these things. You’d better ask him yourself."
"All right. Thank you for your cooperation."
Coulson smiled and nodded, then looked at the four agents following him. "Get ready."
Five minutes later, Orion Cross and the others arrived at Obadiah’s office without any obstruction.
Under everyone’s gaze, Pepper walked over to the computer, inserted the special USB drive Tony had given her, and began searching for and downloading evidence of Obadiah’s crimes.
While the files were downloading, Pepper could not suppress her curiosity and opened some of the videos and documents. The contents that appeared before her eyes were shocking.
"Doesn’t it feel like this is going too smoothly?"
Orion Cross looked at Coulson, who was scratching his head nearby, and suddenly spoke.
"Exactly. It feels like we haven’t been useful at all."
Coulson frowned slightly and nodded.
"Then that’s right. You’ve finally learned to objectively recognize your own uselessness," Orion Cross said.
Coulson: "?"
After Pepper finished copying the evidence of Obadiah’s crimes, she hesitated briefly, then chose to hand it directly to Coulson. "Don’t let Tony take any more risks. This is a problem you should be solving."
"Don’t worry, Miss Pepper."
Coulson accepted the USB drive with a smile and placed it in his pocket.
Everything went unusually smoothly. When they were heading downstairs to leave, Pepper suddenly thought of something and walked over to a security guard. "Did Obadiah not come to the company today?"
"No."
"Okay, thank you."
Pepper returned with a worried expression. "Obadiah is different from Tony. He cares about the company’s development more than anything. He comes here almost every day, but today, he isn’t here..."
"Where do you think he went?" Coulson asked.
"I don’t know."
Pepper shook her head, but she had a bad feeling in her heart.
"Iron Monger. No matter what, he’s still a villain boss. At least trigger a mission for me."
Orion Cross muttered as he walked over to the S.H.I.E.L.D. car and knocked on the window. "Skye, can you help check where Obadiah went?"
"You’ll handle the fallout for me?"
Skye rolled her eyes slightly and spoke. Her hacking skills were first-rate, but she was not backed by any organization. Everything she relied on was her personal ability. There were indeed many places she could hack into, but most of the time, she would leave traces behind. For hackers, especially independent hackers, leaving traces often meant the intrusion had failed. If she wanted to track Obadiah’s movements, she would have to hack into at least half of New York’s networks and surveillance systems.
"I’ll handle it. With me here, no one will dare touch you."
Orion Cross’s brows furrowed slightly as he spoke directly. What a joke. Right now, Obadiah most likely had no chance to build the Iron Monger armor. If he was directly captured or killed later, then a mission he could have basically gotten for free would be gone just like that.
"O-Okay."
For some reason, after hearing Orion Cross’s words, Skye’s voice became much quieter. She opened the laptop screen and immediately began typing away.
On the other side, Coulson silently made ten phone calls beside them. If they wanted to arrest Obadiah, they also needed to know his whereabouts first. So Skye’s actions could be resolved with a simple report.
Ten minutes later, the image on the computer screen froze on one scene.
"Obadiah left New York on a private plane. Where is he going?"
Pepper stared at the blurry image on the computer and fell into thought. Then horror appeared on her face. "He couldn’t be heading to the villa to find Tony, could he?"
"Don’t worry. Definitely not."
Orion Cross said, "It’s only half an hour by car from here to there. Would he need to take a private plane there?"
"Then where did he go?"
Coulson looked around at everyone and rubbed his chin in thought.
"The same place as that unidentified flying object from earlier."
Orion Cross looked at the gradually darkening sky and spoke. The moment he saw the surveillance footage of Obadiah boarding the plane, Orion Cross was already ninety percent certain that he had gone to the Middle East to find the remains of the Mark I armor Tony had built.
"You know what that unidentified flying object was?"
Coulson froze and asked.
"It was Tony Stark. He built a set of steel armor and wrapped himself inside it. He probably saw the photos Skye showed him of civilians being attacked by terrorists in the Middle East and couldn’t hold himself back, so he flew off to be a superhero."
Orion Cross shook his head and laughed. He had no idea whether Obadiah, after running into Tony slaughtering everything in his path over there, would still be able to come back alive.
"Wanda, did you bring the Sling Ring?"
Orion Cross turned to look at Wanda behind him and asked.
"No, I... left it in my bedroom."
Wanda shook her head and spoke in a low voice. The Sling Ring was the first gift Orion Cross had given her, and it was also a ring. In order to avoid damaging it, she had never dared to carry it around with her. She had always kept it hidden on the bookshelf in her bedroom.
"All right. Looks like I can only help you deal with your true enemy myself."
Without the Sling Ring, Orion Cross could not even open a mini portal. The only way to rush to the Middle East was Great Wasteland Starfall. But an ordinary person’s physique definitely could not withstand the high-speed descent of Great Wasteland Starfall, so he could only go alone.
"Coulson, help clear the air route. I don’t want to accidentally hit a plane or something on the way."
Orion Cross walked to the side, took a deep breath, and spoke.
"No problem, but... what are you planning to do?"
Coulson took out his phone and sent a message, then looked at Orion Cross, who had walked onto an open patch of grass.
