Chapter 53: Mutants and Sentinels
"As expected, money really does make everything convenient. If I want to go somewhere, I have to find the coordinates first, then open a portal."
Sitting aboard Charles’s private jet, Orion Cross took a sip of chilled juice, then handed it to Wanda beside him.
From Magneto, they had learned the place Mystique was most likely headed to: Paris, where the Mutant Registration Act was currently being discussed.
In Wolverine’s original timeline, Mystique had killed Trask, the man who proposed the act, during this meeting.
But after killing Trask, Mystique was captured, and her DNA was obtained. That led to the birth of the Sentinels thirty years later, and the massacre of mutants fifty years later.
Speaking of which, it was quite a coincidence. Although the rules of time travel in Avengers: Endgame and X-Men were different, both took place in 2023.
"So, in the future, those people captured Raven and used her ability to create weapons? Robots? And even built concentration camps?"
As Magneto, Erik, listened to Wolverine’s explanation, his expression gradually turned ice-cold.
He was Jewish, and he had once personally experienced that feeling. So there was no need for Wolverine to describe it in detail. He already understood it deeply.
Not to mention, those who had once followed him—Angel, Azazel, Emma, and Banshee—had all died unnatural deaths because of massacres, experiments, and dissections.
"That’s right. And the cause of all of this is you. You changed Raven!"
Charles stared straight at Erik and spoke.
"Me?"
Erik laughed. His eyes reddened as he stood up and walked in front of Charles.
"Angel."
"Azazel."
"Emma."
"Banshee."
"Our mutant brothers and sisters are all dead!"
"Tested, experimented on, brutally slaughtered!"
"Where were you and Hank at that time?"
"Hiding!"
"You could have saved them, but you abandoned them!"
As Magneto grew angrier and angrier, the entire plane began to tilt and twist.
"Great. Does every plane I board have to run into trouble?"
Orion Cross took out a tissue and wiped the juice stain from Wanda’s clothes, looking speechlessly at the two people arguing not far away.
"I think you can be my sister’s boyfriend. Anyway, we’ve both grown up now."
Seeing this scene, Pietro suddenly spoke.
"Pietro!"
Wanda glared at Pietro, then her eyes flickered slightly.
"Why do I feel like this is just an excuse you’re making so you can go out and mess around in the future?"
Orion Cross raised an eyebrow, seeing through Pietro’s little thoughts at a glance.
Sure enough, kids these days really matured early.
"Erik!"
Hank, who was flying the plane, shouted. At this point, he could no longer control the aircraft.
But in the passenger cabin, those two men who loved and hated each other were arguing at full force. How could they possibly stop so easily?
"Stop them, please!"
Seeing that persuasion was useless, Hank could only look toward Orion Cross.
"No need. Don’t worry. Just fasten your seat belt. He can’t possibly be willing to throw his own life away too, right?"
Faced with Hank’s request, Orion Cross did not make a move. Instead, he pulled out Wanda’s seat belt and his own, then fastened them.
"I hope so."
Hank felt a headache coming on, but after glancing at the two people in the cabin, he could only leave it to fate.
That afternoon, Paris.
Inside the National Assembly building, Dr. Trask faced representatives from various countries and began his speech.
"Congratulations, everyone. The war is over. But now, we have another, even more powerful enemy waiting for us."
"Your armies will be useless, and your nations will have no power to resist."
"To deal with this new war, you need new weapons."
"I call them Sentinels."
"Sentinels can identify and locate the X-gene in mutants."
"The genetic guidance system can lock onto targets half a kilometer away."
"And unless they encounter a target they can lock onto, they will not attack any ordinary human."
"If I activate it here, it will not have any reaction at all."
As he spoke, Dr. Trask took a palm-sized device from his pocket and pressed the switch.
Beep, beep, beep.
The slap in the face came instantly. The small device immediately began sounding an alarm.
"Unless... there is a mutant here."
Trask held the detector and slowly swept it across everyone. When it passed over one person, the signal on the device reached its maximum level.
"I assure you..."
The man being pointed at slowly stood up. Then, under everyone’s gaze, he transformed into a strange woman with deep blue skin. "You have pissed me off!"
"Don’t move!"
"Do not shoot! Capture her!"
Chaos and panic broke out. Mystique charged in like a wolf among sheep, taking down everyone in the room. Only Dr. Trask, the man who had proposed the act, was left holding the device and staring at her in shock.
"You are going to die."
Mystique picked up a pistol from the side and aimed it at Dr. Trask with slightly trembling hands.
This was her first time killing someone, but she would not regret it, because she had read that act. It was too terrifying.
"Raven, stop."
At that moment, a voice came from the doorway, causing Mystique’s movements to pause.
Orion Cross and the others had arrived.
