Chapter 45: A City Where Technology and Magic Coexist
"What?"
Tony’s expression turned a little strange. Then he returned to a serious look, stared at Orion Cross, and nodded. "I believe."
Whatever. He would say anything first as long as it got him out of here.
"Sorry. Saying one thing while meaning another doesn’t count."
Orion Cross glanced at the mission progress bar. It was still at zero percent.
"Oh, come on."
Tony helplessly covered his face. "Brother, it’s the twenty-first century. You’re not a three-year-old child either. Can we not play this kind of game?"
"Exactly. And there’s a camera here. They could discover you at any time. If you have a way to take us out of here, just say it quickly." Yinsen, standing to the side, also nodded in agreement.
"You think magic is a fairy tale? Then how do you think my sofa and I appeared here?" Orion Cross casually pointed at the sofa on top of the trash pile.
If he had come in normally, why would he be carrying a sofa?
The moment Orion Cross’s words fell, the mission progress rose to three percent.
But it only stopped at three percent. It did not move any further.
"Looks like I have to show you something real."
Orion Cross knew that this stage was the easiest time to complete the mission. Once Tony escaped, he would immediately begin manufacturing the Mark armor. At that point, this mission would basically be impossible to complete, and he could only gamble on the next refresh.
After all, the mission objective was not simply to make Tony believe in magic. It was to make him have faith in it.
If one wanted to change a person’s belief, it had to happen in a desperate situation.
"What are you going to do? Perform a magic trick for us?"
Tony took a step back, sat down on the chair, and made an inviting gesture.
"Meow. Where are we going this time?"
A cute cat lying on a book floated out from behind Orion Cross.
"Just flip to any page."
Orion Cross waved his hand. The Book of Thresholds rapidly flipped through its pages, and extradimensional magic activated, enveloping the entire room.
"You..."
Buzz!
The two of them had no time to say anything before Orion Cross successfully brought them to Runeterra.
The three of them appeared in a dark alley.
"I didn’t expect to arrive here. Looks like my luck isn’t bad."
Orion Cross glanced at a flying machine passing through the sky, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.
"You used magic to take us out of that hellhole? Thank you so much!"
After the teleportation, Yinsen realized they had already left the cave. He joyfully stepped forward and grabbed Orion Cross’s hand, his face filled with gratitude.
"Wait a second!"
Tony held the battery keeping him alive and took two steps out of the alley. He looked up at the world outside, at the buildings filled with a sense of technology but definitely not something that should exist on Earth.
It was not just the buildings. The clothes worn by the people passing by were also different from those of people on Earth, and quite a few even had mechanical prosthetics.
"This is... cyberpunk?"
As a technology maniac, Tony naturally knew about this kind of imagined world setting, and everything before his eyes did carry a bit of that cyberpunk flavor.
"Something like that, but..."
Orion Cross walked to Tony’s side, patted his shoulder, and pointed him in another direction. "This is a city where magic and technology coexist, Piltover."
In a workshop not far away, a mage was exhaustedly channeling magic power into a machine.
That visible fluctuation of magic power made Tony’s heart, which had always firmly believed in science, waver all at once.
And besides that... the combination of magic and technology instantly stirred Tony’s curiosity toward this unknown knowledge.
Screech.
A piercing sound, like a knife scraping across glass, rang out from deep inside the alley where Orion Cross had just been standing, causing him to frown and turn his head.
A masked woman had subdued another woman with short white hair and tied her hands with rope.
Around them stood more than a dozen heavily built men with weapons in hand and modified bodies.
And the sound just now had come from the white-haired woman’s legs scraping against the ground after she was attacked.
Why would legs scraping against the ground make that kind of sound?
Because rather than calling them legs, it would be more accurate to call them two sharp blades.
"Sorry, but the family head is advanced in age and can’t wait any longer. Your Hextech heart will become the proof of House Ferros’s prosperity."
After confirming that Camille had been fully restrained, Afuye took out a knife, preparing to remove the glowing Hextech heart from her chest, the symbol of power and agelessness.
"You should have bound my legs, not my hands."
At that moment, Camille’s voice suddenly sounded beside Afuye’s ear.
"No!"
By the time Afuye reacted, her body had already been split in two by the sharp leg blades.
"That idiot ruined our lord’s plan!"
The others were frightened by Camille’s sudden burst of violence. They knew very well that today, only one side between them would be able to leave alive.
"Damn it. Try this!"
One of the male cyborgs raised the massive firearm in his hand, which flickered with blue light. Gritting his teeth, he stuffed a gemstone into it and aimed at Camille, who had just killed Afuye.
Seeing this, Camille’s eyes narrowed. The hookshot at her waist shot toward the corner of a wall, and she hurriedly tried to dodge.
Hiss!
As a flash of light swept past, a spear shimmering with starlight instantly pierced through the male cyborg’s body, along with his accomplices, pinning them all to the wall. They fell silent and moved no more.
"Hello. We need a guide. Could you help us out?"
Orion Cross walked beside the human skewer, pulled out the spear, turned around, and asked.
