Chapter 55: Persecution Complex
"Maybe Erik is right. Mutants are destined to be unable to integrate into ordinary people’s lives."
"I don’t know how Orion plans to become a ’villain,’ and even if I knew, I don’t have the power to stop him."
Charles watched Orion Cross leave, then slowly leaned against the wall and lay down on the floor.
Without experiencing that conversation with his future self, the young Professor X’s heart was far too fragile right now. He simply could not convince himself to stop either Orion Cross or Magneto.
"Wanda, let’s go help."
Pietro walked to the window, turned around, and spoke to his sister.
"I advise you not to go."
Wolverine, who had been fighting against the pain in the corner for quite some time, gritted his teeth and forced himself to speak through the agony.
"Why? Aren’t you friends with that ’Ditto’?"
Pietro stopped in his tracks and looked at Wolverine in confusion.
"Your current identities are mutants. If you go over there, you’ll ruin his plan."
Charles stared blankly out the window and spoke.
"According to Orion, he wants the ordinary people of this world to know that besides mutants, there are other superpowered beings, and only the extraordinary can defeat the extraordinary."
"Ordinary people’s understanding of the world is black and white, and that is exactly the feeling Orion wants to create for them."
"So on Orion’s side, mutants absolutely cannot appear. At least, not right now."
Although Charles had lost his ability at the moment, the memories of when he had used it in the past had not faded. Because of that, he still saw ordinary people’s hearts quite clearly.
"And besides, in this world, that guy should technically be your father."
Wolverine, who was gradually recovering, slowly stood up, patted his clothes, and spoke.
"What?"
Pietro looked at Wolverine in total confusion. "Our parents died a month ago. Besides, we’re not even from this world. How could that person possibly be our father?"
"That... is hard to explain."
Wolverine frowned and struggled with it for a moment, only to realize that with his limited intelligence, he had no way to explain it clearly.
"No, this is actually very simple."
Charles supported himself against Wolverine and stood up, then walked toward Wanda and Pietro. "Why did the two of you gain the X-gene after arriving in this world, while he did not? You siblings must have an inseparable connection to mutants."
"What connection?"
Wanda and Pietro asked instinctively.
"That touches upon the limits of my knowledge. Perhaps only Orion, who can travel between two universes, knows what connection exists between our world and yours... and what connection you two have to mutants."
Charles passed the siblings and walked to the window, looking at the situation outside.
In the square outside, Beast Hank, who had been the first to jump out and stop Magneto, was now bound to the central fountain by several iron pipes. He could not move at all and was being surrounded, watched, and photographed by passersby.
"Are we competing to see who finds her first now?"
Magneto floated in the air, surrounded by all kinds of suspended metal, as he looked at Orion Cross, who had appeared opposite him.
Mystique had transformed into a passerby and was hiding among the crowd. Unless Professor X recovered his ability, no one could immediately find her. Unless...
"I left a tiny piece of iron wire on her just now."
The corner of Magneto’s mouth lifted slightly, and his gaze gradually shifted toward a person not far away.
In an instant, countless pieces of steel around him turned into sharp blades and shot toward that ordinary passerby.
"No, Erik!"
Under the terror of death, Mystique could no longer maintain her transformation. She returned to her true form, her eyes filled with fear.
Clang!
A piercing metallic impact echoed across the square, the shrill noise forcing people to cover their ears.
"I... didn’t die?"
Mystique looked down at her hands in lingering terror.
At this moment, her body was wrapped in a layer of flowing sand. The sand protected her entire body like armor, and the steel controlled by Magneto was unable to harm her in the slightest.
"Thank you."
Mystique looked at Orion Cross as he walked toward her and thanked him.
"You still couldn’t resist making a move. Do you know the consequences of doing this?"
Magneto floated in front of Orion Cross and looked down at him from above.
"You should be asking yourself that. You are not the limit of mutants, and mutants are not the limit of power."
With a wave of Orion Cross’s hand, a wall of Imperial Guards emerged from the sand and repelled all the steel.
[Erik, Orion can take Raven away from this world. Don’t try to kill her anymore!]
Magneto was about to speak when a familiar voice suddenly rang out in his mind, making him turn his head toward the distant building.
Sure enough, Charles was staring at this place from the window, though his complexion did not look good.
Just now, he had forced himself to activate his ability once under the suppression of the drug while enduring tremendous pain.
"You’re planning to take her to your world?!"
Erik stared sharply at Orion Cross and asked.
"That’s right. Charles’s ability recovered?"
Orion Cross glanced at the people watching from the distance and nodded.
"Then I have even more reason not to let you have your way."
"Charles is too naive!"
"You’re planning to take Mystique to another world, develop that weapon called the Sentinels, then come back and conquer us, aren’t you?"
Magneto roared in the air, vividly demonstrating to everyone what concentration camp PTSD and a persecution complex looked like.
