Chapter 2984. More To Help

The light warriors were just that. Warriors with light affinity. They could coat their shields with light mana or they could do the same with their swords. Regardless, they had the ability to better protect and fight because of this.

They were always tied to the cathedral even before times had changed and more uplifting leaders had taken control of the cathedral.

That being the case, the light warriors had all been thought of to have a higher standard for the actions they took. Many in the past had been reprimanded for ignoring unsavory orders or had openly resisted priests that gave them improper orders.

While that had resulted in many being cast out over the years, it didn’t change the fact that nowadays things were better and the light warriors had fallen in to their perfect niche protecting healers and going on pilgrimages beside them to help heal others. Let alone, go on various outings to protect researchers who were looking in ruins that could advance the betterment of all people.

Right now though, the serious and usually lighter atmosphere around what should be light warriors was heavier and carried much stronger light mana. This caught Alice and Walker’s attention since that meant that this group had grown. More than the average, but it was not the end of things since they had already been told that it was not direct growth.

They could level up and gain strength. They could understand their skills and affinities better since they all worked together. But just growing in level and understanding such things did not change the entire orientation of how they held themselves and the tones they took.

The usual response of many light warriors to the higher healers and priests would be respectful and often a but subservient despite Alice trying to make them more confident and not to feel they needed to be of service.

"We have managed to understand a role that we can uphold without the support of the cathedral. Just as Saintess Alice stands for giving and healing, selfless gifts to those in need, we too have understood we could pledge ourselves to the light itself and stand within it." The leader spoke with determination that showed they had become pillars of their beliefs instead of seeing themselves as followers of a belief.

"We have made an oath to the light. We will protect the injured, rescue them, and ensure they are healed with the pure light healing that many strive for. We are those who stand by our oaths and those that will always give what we must for the light we see in every soul." The promise sounded a bit one sided making Walker apprehensive, but there did not appear to be any malice toward anything else, just a sworn oath.

"We have become light sworn paladins. Followers of light mana and what is just. Therefore, we will operate separately as needed and assist the cathedral as long as its light shines on those in need."

"So you returned from your pilgrimage with these stronger ideals. Then you wait for those with authority to say that you will not follow what is asked of you if it does not perfectly align with your oaths?" They all stood slightly taller in the face of Walker’s words. Alice also looked at Walker carefully. She knew he was assessing them.

While this was necessary to ensure that safety for the general people was upheld, Walker was also doing it to prove that everyone needed to stand for every aspect of the people and not just a singular person’s ideals. Regardless of oaths, that was just how it had to be in Genesis.

Everyone mattered, not just one kind of being.

"What if a plague sweeps through Genesis? No healers are left able to heal but for one that uses dark mana and another that uses water mana. Will you allow them to work? Or do you need the light to ensure healing and purity?" His words were like a hammer hitting each of them.

"Sir hero! We do not believe that light is the only way. We swore to the light so that we can show the proper path to peace and safety. We will use light because we are allowed the ability to use it. We will work with the cathedral for their reasons are just. It is shown in the light and that is the truth we see."

"We cannot allow ourselves to be bound. Some places the cathedrals and healers may not reach. It is our duty to move and claim their safety in those cases. Even against the orders of a priest."

Seeing that his words caused the exact response that he wanted, Walker gave a slight grin in the direction of Alice who seemed a bit more at ease as well.

"Then you may all still work with us. You will be forming something that kings request of their knights. The order of light paladins." Alice made the decision and felt that more would come to be as time went on.

"Others will pledge to the mana itself that they will uphold specific values just as you did. You moved beyond light warriors because of your commitments to your ideals and you did not bring an oath to a god class holder or a singular ideal. You did it to light mana for what you interpret it to be. Welcome to the cathedral, we look forward to your hard work and documentation of your new classes."

With Alice taking the lead and pushing Walker’s shoulder to tell him he could be on his way, Alice began working on the details.

He felt a little bad that he was not able to help her with her learning about nutrient sharing magic for healing and so on, but this was just how things had to go. She had a lot of duties as a saintess and also in general as a powerful healer leading the cathedral. Many people looked toward her for inspiration.

This opportunity was a chance to grow the cathedral while still protecting the people. There was no reason to stop it and wait. It was better to act now.

This left him alone to try and study the journal copy more.

Just finding a quiet spot to sit behind the cathedral in the garden felt a little more challenging. There was a larger space made for some training now and the garden area was often filled. However, the gazebo was still peaceful with plenty of room to sit with a book, quill, and paper to record his theories.

"Why does that look like you are just moving around letters? It looks like someone took them and shook them about in a bucket and poured them back on the paper." Gil arriving wasn’t a surprise, Walker had sensed Gil moving around the street before dropping off some papers personally. Most likely some requests for healers in the elven training grounds.

It was normal for people to request extra healers if they would have tougher training or new forms of training. Scylla often did so when the coliseum would have larger battles as well. It was better to be safe than sorry even if some of the healers found it less beneficial when no one was injured.

Then again, it was a chance to enjoy learning about general recovery from harsh training and minor wounds that came from such training. So it was beneficial even if they did not deal with the life threatening injuries some bragged about being able to heal.

"Alma will get angry with you if you stay here with me to..." Trailing off, Gil saw that Walker had started to write a lot more.

Since he had focused on the language differences, Walker hadn’t focused on the orientation of the letters and how the individual words had been shifted to different lines. Following the ways that they were written, he could see that some words and letters were shifted down or up a line. If he oriented them, he could see patterns forming better.

Just because someone in the stroke of mad genius changed their thinking, did that truly mean that it was illogical? Maybe it was just only logical from different perspectives. Gil’s perspective that it looked like a pail of water was poured pushing the words away or out was similar to the style that they had been written.

Walker had seen this in some encrypted texts where words were shifted or notes were written in the small spaces beneath phrases causing confusion.

"I need some time reading this, go back to your work and I will share what I figure out later." The laughter from Gil was him teaching Walker about being a workaholic, but Walker had already returned his full attention to the start of understanding the words before him.
