Master Of None

Chapter 2979. Fine and Delicate

"So you need to go to the archive and research the book about building and sealing elemental planes to craft dungeons?" Alice had come to see Walker and was drinking a fruit tea that Remey had stored within the mansion for anyone who wanted it.

The bright flavor kept her awake since she had been working hard teaching new healers. She had plenty of new stories about different forms of healing to share but she was more curious about what else Walker had experienced within the outer elemental planes.

The stories could be shared to those she would help heal later and that would be something that could inspire them. She found more and more that distractions like heroic stories or adventures in to the unknown helped the mental healing process.

She even was working with a few of the nuns who focused on the mental side of everything to write a record of bed side manner that was ideal for any healer to learn regardless of age and level of healing skills.

That aside though, Alice’s curiosity made Walker want to speak constantly. It was hard to decide where to start with just one answer.

"I need experts to help me recover whatever is in this journal. There is so much that is lost to me that was in here due to time and rot. The journal even has pages that look like they were eaten up by something." The long sigh came as Walker knew that pests could exist in any library even if it was guarded to the best of everyone’s ability.

The fact that this book had been damaged out in the unknown was just proof that this was the case many times over. Whether it was a bookworm or some unknown strange creature, it was just how things worked.

"What will you do if the sealing and dungeon crafting is too little?" Since Alice knew this wasn’t really what might be the case, she did worry that Walker was trying to push himself a little too hard. She knew all too well that he could run head on in to a wall and keep trying to surpass that wall even if he was injured. That was just the kind of man Walker was now.

"I asked for something to give me a hint, and I am sure that if I had asked for too much I would have just been pushed away. I think whatever is in here might be able to show me the start of what I want to do without getting too in depth and needing me to have a class that specifically manipulates and crafts dungeons."

Thinking about it for a moment, Walker hummed before speaking again. "I can temporarily seal an elemental plane by manipulating the mana it is made of and also using mine. While it is short in duration and doesn’t have the strength of someone specified for it, it works. I just need to see if I can potentially manipulate the rules of a dungeon. That way I could make them safer and perfect for training people in resistances for certain manas."

To Alice, this sounded a lot more plausible than when Walker was trying to make a dungeon. He had somewhat succeeded, but that dungeon was being guarded and would take a lot more time to open up, even if it had been sped up by the care it received.

The real challenge that Walker needed to figure out was if he could be capable of interacting with dungeons in that level at all.

They had been created by others or formed naturally. They were not something easily played with and he knew that.

"Want to come with me? I heard that some of the older elven healing books have been translated and copied recently?"

Alice raised an eyebrow and smiled softly, "And how would you know that since you just returned?" She knew very well he was just trying to bring her along with him too.

"The same way I know you’re already prepared to come with me." Walker grabbed her, tea and all, and teleported them to the front of the archives. Alice saw it coming from a mile away.

As much as he was always absorbed in to his work and focused on it, he wouldn’t just miss a chance to spend time with her too. Plus, she and everyone else knew that he would take any chance to practice the teleportation skills he had from using space mana. The more he practiced the more he adapted to it.

"You’re the reason I have a small storage skill now too. We made the medic tent skill and space that can be used to help. But I am so exposed to space mana that I have a small spatial storage skill too." She spoke with a hint of drama just to tease him. Her bright mood lit up the room as they entered the smaller work office spaces for book preservation.

"You did! That’s amazing! I assume you also gained a weaker space mana affinity too? I know the others have it because of my exposing them to space mana but I think they all would get it with how much they are growing regardless."

"Actually, I think because space mana is always present everyone has an affinity for it but it comes down to properly bringing that forward to be called an affinity. And acknowledging it so it can be felt and understood."

The way that they put it made Alice believe that Walker often thought about how people gained affinities and if having singular affinities was rarely true.

She also understood he had shown quite a few people how having multiple affinities was often the case.

For example, those with a light affinity and the smallest one percent water affinity was impossible to learn of. Now, it was a way to focus and learn what form of unique light mana they actually had. Helping that person develop on their own unique path.

This was also the case for people with unique classes that were hard to explain. Until, the minute differences in balanced affinities they had were shown and explained more. Then, the classes they gained were more easily understood.

That didn’t mean affinity was all that explained classes though. Plenty of other aspects of a person could lead them to develop a class perfect for themselves.

"Oh hello there. I didn’t expect one of the heroes and our bright and cheery saintess to visit us so early." Walker furrowed his brow wondering if this older archivist had not realized night past him by and it was well in to the afternoon.

Ignoring the worrisome habits of the archivists and scribes here, Walker placed the book on the man’s desk very carefully.

The man’s eyes popped proving that Walker wouldn’t even need to explain the age and rarity of the journal. Just that he needed as much from it as possible.

Before Walker could say a word, the older man was gathering rune sewn gloves and small vials of inks. It appeared that even the powders in some vials were made to uphold the quality of some papers and other aspects of the journal.

If Walker had tried himself he would have found that he didn’t know any of this. He would surely have caused the pages to crumble and the remaining words to be lost.

"Remove the moisture from this area for me. The rot in the book shows a sticky sap like appearance meaning that it came from water or damage from a liquid. The ink will solidify again so that we can ensure readable words and potentially full phrases."

The elderly age dissipated in a moment. It seemed like this old human archivist had grown backwards but thirty years in age. It was the excitement and joy of having something truly spectacular to dedicate all of his hard earned skills to working on.

"Now make the air warmer for me. That will allow me to add these ink preservers properly. Then we will begin copying the words on the first through seventh pages."

It wasn’t rough or orderly. It was knowledgeable and direct. This all worked because this man had done this for years and years. It was a clear show of brilliance while in his element.

That was when he watched the man bring forth the first ink. A dusting of powders then a dribble of ink that flowed like a water mage was manipulating it. An astounding sight as words were perfectly mirrored from the tattered and crumbling journal.

"This is just amazing." The whisper was from Walker but Alice squeezed his hand in agreement. She didn’t want to say a word since she feared she might cause light mana to shiver and cause harm to this delicate process.

"Language of the first dungeon sculptor. How interesting."
