Master Of None

Chapter 2981. Changing Perspectives

Alice was off with an attendant before Walker could even ask where the books he was looking for were. It seemed that she would be occupied with the translated and copied books about the broken healer for some time.

That left him looking at one of the shelves in the archive showing tales of some of the greater political mysteries that had been recorded.

As much as he wanted to focus on just mysteries and languages that were related to treasures and mysterious monsters, he realized that many involved the plots of nobles from years ago before it became more common place to use more advanced scouts.

Many kingdoms had not invested in information gathering scouts directed toward the people themselves. This meant that scouts were focused on gathering information on monsters, unexplored territories, or enemies. Not on their own people.

While that had become more of a shadowy area at one point, that was just that. It was something that was now present and would be present even more so.

But with that development in politics and general life, there was a loss of some aspect of mystery.

When someone knew every card that could be played by a noble, then the game was already half way won. It was less romantic and mysterious. It was more like a strategy of war than a deceit that needed to be seen through. Less of an action to be deciphered and understood. Less of a riddle without an answer just yet.

Therefore, looking at the older and more intricate stories both true and false, Walker felt he had a better chance of understanding what the skill related to deciphering languages made by geniuses in madness.

"Where did that scar on your hand come from?" Gil was surprised that Alma had not asked about this before.

Once he had returned he knew that Walker had dealt with a few things and that Walker was going to be focused on the journal he had received. Therefore, He had the chance to return home and spend time with Alma. Although, that tie had been focused on finishing some paperwork related to the fruits from a northern icy farm harvesting the ghost apples.

The fruit was a single apple that froze and uniquely only lived in places where the blizzards were a year round event. Plus, the ice mana within was ideal for certain monsters to consume.

When they reached the right size, their pale and nearly clear skin would be able to be peeled and the tough solid interior would release mana and nutrients. It looked ghostly and fake under the light of the sun but still held a great value despite the lack of beauty in red or green like other apple species.

"I made a mistake. Channeled mana in a vacuum of no mana and accidentally pulled chaotic manas in to my hand trying to make an arrow. It helped me see that my advancement in class could go much further than I believed. Maybe for everyone. But it also made things harder for me. I could probably heal the scar, but it was a lesson learned the hard way.’

Gil didn’t mention that the numbness was only gone because of an encounter with a kind being protecting their own little spots of peace within the chaotic manas of the unknown areas beyond the elemental planes.

If he did he was sure that Alma would have more for him to hear. Then again, he also knew she did not look happy hearing that he made a mistake while training. Let alone, a mistake related to chaotic manas.

"You did what!" she didn’t want an answer, she was ready to start yelling at him with as much fury as possible.

She has remained here safe and sound and he has been doing things like play with chaotic mana? How stupid could he be!?

"I know it sounds very bad. Walker was there to support me. Remey and Su were there to help heal the damage. But what I learned was worth it I believe." He looked at Alma carefully before setting the quill and ink aside and pulled at mana around him.

"The form of dagger style pulls mana from around us. The same for a bow style developed for arcane archers I have already proven to be something that the high elves could have used in the past. But what about when an arcane archer is making pure arrows of mana? They are not stronger than the arrows I make and add mana to them with the right materials, but what if they could be better?"

The arrow made of water mana he made was flexible and could have uses. Alma agreed but not enough that it was worth pushing other archers to learn the path of an arcane archer and see if they could potentially advance in that direction.

"I wondered what would happen if I drew mana from an area without it and other manas responded. Meaning that it is possible to pull manas greater than just elemental manas. That there is more beyond arcane arches in multiple steps."

"I was able to prove that every single class if pushed and learned beyond the normal levels can advance beyond the world, the elemental planes, and whatever else is out there. I just glimpsed the far off potential and now I need to catch up and understand the in between. I can not comprehend what I glimpsed and let it be forgotten so it would not hurt my growth."

The way that Gil said this came with enough disappointment in himself that Alma now understood that he had limited himself because he had tried to go too far too fast.

"So what foundation in this do you want to encourage others to take?" She gave him a chance to explain.

"You know how Walker explains the manas and their affinities that create mixed unique manas?" she nodded slightly. "We are already having many people get tested and understand the breadth of their affinities. They can explore unique affinities like this and maybe we can encourage the understanding of unique manas like the sun mana that the entire eyes of the sun race use. Not just to advance classes that can survive and thrive exploring the elemental planes, but beyond it."

"Ypou are talking about setting a precedent for a foundation of people that can go beyond. You want to grow them to be able to push further by giving them goals unique to themsleves." she stated that fact and then looked at the few guards and attendants nearby who always stayed nearby when they worked.

They had heard this and they had such testing done to understand their natural states and strengths. Therefore, this made a lot more sense to them that Gil might be looking to help everyone advance.

"We can build a program for the elves to do so and then help others. We can also look at home the world will branch out making us the front of that spear in a battle of the unknown." She liked it but also still was annoyed that Gil was trying to lay a foundation like this by risking himself harm.

"I want to encourage everyone to hunt for quests that will allow them to advance. I want them to have the opportunities to do so. And when Walker understands the dungeons better, we can make places where people can do exactly that. We just need to build a training cycle to better encourage such things. And if we do that, we can combine every race’s efforts in this too."

Now she understood the larger picture Gil saw in his mind. "You want us to begin condensing everyone’s efforts and unify them better. It is a larger project that might take a lot of time. You will have to stick around."

"I need to stick around and stop exploring for a little while. Remey gave me a warning and Su made a few comments about a little one growing faster because the nutrition you are getting is perfect and the mana is greater. I can’t let my child be without a father when they are the smallest most delicate little thing out there."

Now Gil had his head on right.

Whether she liked that he had been away and risked himself, it seemed that he had taken a lot more perspective in his actions. A chance to develop and grow the potential of everyone so that he would not have to worry about protecting her and their children in the future.

"Then you will have to tell me more details and show me what you know." She was already waving a couple of guards over so they could start practicing what Gil was preaching. He didn’t say a word but smiled, feeling her support in this.
