Chapter 580: Dialogue Between The Goddess And The Chosen One
(Author’s POV)
"Step inside, my child, Myra. I have been waiting for you," a soft, serene voice called for her. Enchanted, her feet started on their own; her steps were careful as if she was treading on ice.
As soon as she walked inside, Myra’s eyes went as wide as saucers. "Wh~ what is this? And~ .... who~ ... who is this person? Is she one of the angels from heaven? My gosh, she is gorgeous." Myra was captivated by her charm and kept staring at her like an idiot. Obliviously, she had let her inner thoughts slip out of her mouth.
The woman standing in front of her chuckled lightly at her choice of words; her smile was as radiant as a sunburst, lighting the entire place.
Realizing, she quickly covered her mouth. Her cheeks flushed red with raw embarrassment as she lowered her head at once.
The room she was standing in now looked like a place straight out of a fantasy world. To be honest, calling it a room would be a blatant disrespect. It was thrice as big as those massive audience halls from those royal dramas. But she wasn’t shocked by the mere size. It was the interior. The floor was crystal, the walls were twinkling with stars and pearls, and the rows of chairs lined up on either side were made up of pure diamonds. And the throne placed in the far center was crescent shaped with starlight crystals embedded at every inch. It was blinding.
As for the woman- she was, as Myra uttered, drop dead gorgeous. Donning a pearl and diamond encrusted white silver gown, she resembled a celestial goddess from head to toe. Her dewy, pinkish skin looked lustrous. Her posture was filled with poise and elegance. The way her chin was tilted a little high, yet she didn’t seem arrogant at all. The kindness in her eyes remained intact.
She was flawless, graceful in every possible way. And the bejewelled, haloed crown representing different phases of the moon over her silver long wavy locks was telling another mesmerizing tale of its own.
"DON’T FEEL SHY. LOOK AT ME, MY CHILD," the person said. The coolness in her tone was like therapy. Myra, still red faced, didn’t look up. She then said, "WERE YOU NOT CURIOUS ABOUT MY IDENTITY? I WILL TELL YOU."
Feeling awkward, Myra raised her head meekly. She didn’t say a word, just bit her lower lip, fidgeting with her fingers, waiting for the woman to start.
The woman gave her another one of her vibrant beams and spoke, "I AM~ .... THE GODDESS OF THE MOON. AND ... THIS IS THE LUMINESCENT ATRIUM IN MY LUNAR CASTLE." She introduced herself; serenity dripped from her expressions, and the calmness in her voice remained as is.
For the nth time, Myra was left stupefied, her eyes blinking rapidly, her mouth agape. Stammering, she mumbled, "M~ ... mm~ .... The Moon Goddess? Like the actual celestial goddess?" She had heard Nora and the brothers calling their divine deity with this title.
Her eyes once again darted around as she noticed everything here represented the moon somehow. "So~ ... this is your castle and not heaven?" Myra added; her voice came out muddled.
"YES, I AM THE MOON GODDESS. AND THIS IS NOT HEAVEN, BUT THE CASTLE I RESIDE IN," the goddess answered patiently.
’But what am I doing here? Do all the dead beings come here first?’ Myra questioned in her mind. Yet somehow, the goddess heard her thoughts.
"MY DEAR CHILD, YOU SUMMONED MY PRESENCE, SO I BROUGHT YOU TO MY PALACE," the goddess appeased her curiosity once again.
"I~ ... summoned you?" Myra was perplexed by the statement. ’When did I ever~ ...?’ Her voice faded as a thought arose in her mind. When taking her last few breaths, she had called for the god above to listen to her prayers. Maybe this was what the goddess was talking about.
The moon goddess smiled again, "THE BRACELET IN YOUR HAND IS MADE FROM THE STRAND OF MY HAIR. I GAVE IT TO ONE OF MY BELOVED CHILDREN, MOANA."
Myra instantly looked at the now-luminous bracelet on her wrist and recalled that it was a gift from Sara. She had called it their family heirloom and said it would protect Myra whenever she was in danger. The werewolf crest on it was hot and flickering, tickling her skin. Myra hadn’t taken it off once.
"Mo~on Godde~ss .... did you~ .... did you save me, then?" Myra inquired hesitantly, as hope flickered in her eyes once again.
"NO. I DID NOT," the goddess told her bluntly.
Hearing her answer, Myra’s face drained of all colour. ’So, I~ ... really am dead.’ Even though she knew the reality, it still made her heart ache; her eyes moistened instantly. But the goddess’s next words caught her off guard. "~YOU SAVED YOURSELF."
"Huhh? WHAT? So~ .... so~ .... I did not die? I am still alive in the real world?" Myra’s hazels turned buoyant as tears were ready to fall out any second; her nose stung. After the moment of high, she queried, "But how could I, an ordinary human, save myself from the attack of a highly skilled demon?"
The goddess just nodded as she settled on her throne. The moment she sat down, the gemstones on it brightened, as if they had come to life. "YOU SAVED NOT JUST YOURSELF, BUT ALSO THE ONES FATED TO YOU BY BOND. "
Knowing that the Lycan brothers were safe, Myra let out a sigh of relief. The moon goddess continued, "MY CHILD, YOU ARE NO ORDINARY BEING. YOU ARE GIFTED, MYRA. YOU HAVE THE POWER TO SAVE COUNTLESS LIVES. I HAVE BESTOWED ON YOU MY ETERNAL BLESSINGS. YOU DON’T NEED TO BE SAVED BY ANYONE."
’Gifted? Blessing?’ Hearing these words, Myra felt a pang in her chest. Something snapped inside her. "If I had the eternal blessing of a powerful goddess like you, why did I get separated from my birth mother in the first place? Why did I end up in an orphanage as an infant? Why was I starved, why was I beaten up so ruthlessly? Why did those strangers bully me, or taunt me, or call me a cursed person? Why am I being targeted again and again and again? Why is my life and the life of my loved ones in constant danger? WHY??? Tell me, why?" Her voice was cold as she recalled her dreadful childhood.
This time, the goddess didn’t smile. Her face remained neutral, and her eyes stayed clear as she said, "EVERY BEING ON EARTH IS MY CHILD AND HAS A DESTINY TO FOLLOW. BUT SOME ARE MORE TREASURED BY ME. YOU ARE ONE OF THE FEW. YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE. AND SOME INSOLENT BEINGS ENVY THE ATTENTION AND TRY TO HARM MY CHILDREN."
Myra didn’t fully understand her words. Sensing this, the moon goddess added, "ON THE DAY YOU WERE CONCEIVED INTO THE MORTAL WORLD, IT WAS A BLUE MOON NIGHT, A RARE POWERFUL OCCASION. THAT NIGHT, I WATCHED THE INJUST ACT THAT HAPPENED WITH YOUR MOTHER. AND I KNOW THE SUFFERINGS YOU HAVE ENDURED, MYRA. I KNOW EVERYTHING." She sounded remorseful.
Myra was annoyed. "You call me a blessed child, the chosen one, yet you watched me and my mother suffer? You knew everything and still call it an eternal blessing? What kind of a goddess are you?" she asked, her tone furious.
The goddess didn’t mind her tone. It was understandable for anyone in her position to feel that way. She calmly replied, "THE FATE OF AN UNBORN CHILD IS DETERMINED BY THEIR PAST KARMAS AND THE CHOICES OF MORTALS WHO CREATE THEM. YOURS WAS FOREORDAINED BY YOUR BIRTH PARENTS AND YOUR PAST DEEDS ... EVEN AS THE MOON GODDESS, I CANNOT CHANGE IT. ONLY THE PERSON LIVING THE LIFE CAN DO IT BY THE CHOICES THEY MAKE. BUT STILL, ON THE NIGHT OF THE BLUE MOON, I ANOINTED THE BLESSING OF THE MOON UPON YOU."
"You mean, what happened with me when I was little is because of the decisions my biological mother and father took. And the choices I make and will make in the future can change the course of my destiny?" Myra questioned.
"YES, INDEED," the goddess answered. ’BUT ONCE THE CHOICE IS MADE, IT CANNOT BE UNDONE WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES."
"What do you mean by that?" Myra didn’t grasp the meaning and asked straightaway.
"THE FOUR LYCAN BROTHERS, YOUR FATED MATES. YOU HAVE FINALLY ACCEPTED THEM AS YOURS. THE STRING OF FATE HAS TIED YOU WITH THEM. YOUR MIND AND SOUL ARE BIND WITH THEM AND THEIR WOLVES NOW. YOU CANNOT BREAK THE MATE BOND SO EASILY EVEN IF YOU TRY. YOU CANNOT WALK AWAY LIKE EARLIER," the goddess’s tone was firm this time.
Though Myra had no plan of walking away, the weight of her words made her breath hitch. "The mate bond with the Lycan brothers~ ... is that your blessing? That’s why you keep calling me the chosen one?"
With a graceful smile, she said, "NO, IT WAS YOUR FATED MATES WHO GOT MY BLESSING TO BE BONDED TO YOU."
