Chapter 2539 - 2515: I Care
When a very miserable smile appeared on Karl’s face, Gao Yang knew things were going south.
Generally speaking, only someone who is utterly heartbroken, disillusioned, or resigned to death would show such a pitiful smile.
But what shocked Gao Yang most was how fierce Karl Stemonsen really was.
No, to be precise, it was Mike who was astonishingly fierce.
Because it was Mike who fired the shots, just him, although his comrades also drew their pistols, none of them actually fired.
When Mike fired at the four people behind Karl, his comrades seemed to finally make up their minds, gritted their teeth, and swiftly turned their gun muzzles towards those rushing in from the main entrance.
And by then, Karl was already firing.
"Bang, bang, bang."
The gunfire rang out in rapid succession, and the rhythm was incredibly intense.
All four of Cerberus opened fire.
"Fire! You have no idea who your enemies are... F**k! F**k! Shoot! Shoot!"
The one speaking was injured, screaming wildly for someone to open fire, but it was already too late.
The gunshots rang out sixteen times, and all eight people who entered through the main door were knocked down.
From start to finish, from the moment they entered to when someone yelled to open fire and to when someone actually fired, all the bullets came from Cerberus.
This means none of the would-be captors managed to fire.
The first person Karl hit with a dining knife as a throwing knife had his trigger finger tendon severed, and he was unable to fire the gun in his hand.
As for the rest, Karl and his team shot them all within less than two seconds.
The only sound left in the restaurant was suppressed sobbing, as someone cried with their hand over their mouth.
Karl’s face showed a mix of confusion and the relief of anger, and he muttered to himself, "Finally, we’ve reached this point..."
Mike stood up and shouted, "Go!"
"David! Back door! Filet, the front door! Scout the terrain outside! Commander, there’s no turning back! Go!"
The three of them rushed to different positions, while Gao Yang still crouched on the ground, hands on his head, staring at Karl Stemonsen in shock.
Karl pointed his gun at Gao Yang, then said coldly, "Was it you who snitched?"
Before Gao Yang could shake his head, Karl had already put away his gun and said softly, "It couldn’t have been you; there’s no way you could have known who we are or who to inform; it couldn’t have been you..."
With a long sigh, Karl whispered to Gao Yang, "Sorry for getting you involved, but you should be fine, just believe what others say, don’t tell anyone what I said, or you’ll have real trouble."
After saying that, Karl headed towards the front door.
"There are a lot of cops outside! SWAT!"
"Back door too! We’re surrounded!"
"Grab guns, put on body armor, we’re breaking out!"
"Take hostages?"
"No!"
Before Karl could order, the three had already decided what to do on their own.
Karl seemed oblivious to his comrades’ calls as he quickly headed to the front door and knelt down in front of someone he’d just shot.
"They finally drove us to a dead end. Are you satisfied now?"
"Do you even know what you’ve done! Damn it!"
"Then do you understand what you’re doing? Do you think we have no choice but to do as you say? Back when we were soldiers, we had no thoughts of our own, but now we’re not soldiers anymore. We have thoughts of our own. We’ll become your nightmare, the nightmare of you bastards. You’ve got what you wanted, I don’t mind having more enemies."
"You don’t understand! This isn’t a personal grievance! It’s not about suppressing you! You can’t just... just take it out on that person! You don’t even know what happened. It’s over, let it go! Clinging to it will kill many people! Damn it! You don’t even know what happened and you want revenge, revenge. It’s all for this country."
Karl said furiously, "You damn liars! Making deals with an arms dealer, you bastards! It was you! You ruined this country, and now you’re telling me it’s for the country!"
"You’re undermining the bigger picture! If it wasn’t for your stubbornness, why would it come to this!"
"Fine! Tell me why! Why can’t we have revenge! Why can’t we take revenge on a damn arms dealer, give me an answer!"
"I don’t know... It’s top national secrets, all I know is that stopping you is essential, or it will bring insufferable harm to this country."
Karl gave a wry smile, then slowly said, "I lost seventy-six brothers, I led them to their deaths, and just like that, it’s over. You say it’s for the country and pretend it never happened, everything ends. Those seventy-six men, let’s just pretend they never existed..."
Karl suddenly raised his voice, then screamed madly, "You don’t care, I care! To hell with the big picture, to hell with national interests! You liars just want to cover up the truth! You’re all liars! You want this to end here? No~way!"
Screaming "no way," Karl immediately regained his calm, then said coldly, "Seventy-six lives of the Red Team, if you won’t avenge them, I will."
"No, you really don’t know what happened. I advise you to calm down. Outside..."
Karl raised his voice and shouted, "Which department are you from, tell me how you found us, who ordered to take us out."
"No, no..."
After a gunshot, the person talking to Karl screamed miserably, "You shot my leg, you son of a bitch, I’ll talk, I’m with the CIA, your phone was tapped, we knew you wanted money for revenge, things escalated, so we came, that’s it, that’s it!"
Karl breathed a sigh of relief, then said in a deep voice, "Should I let you go? I should, but since you ordered to shoot, aiming to kill us, you are the enemy, and as an enemy..."
Karl stopped talking, and then a gunshot rang out, the piercing scream stopped abruptly.
Karl shot that CIA person dead!
"Brothers, take your time, put on body armor and collect as many bullets as possible. We’re now enemies of this country!"
Karl finally gave the command loudly, then immediately bent down to pick up rifles and bullets from the floor.
Gao Yang didn’t know what to say, he felt a bit disoriented.
