Chapter 530 - 523: I Won’t Let You Bully Her
Leon asked curiously, "Nora, what did you say to her?"
"I’m not telling." A smile touched the corners of Nora Ainsworth’s eyes. She turned around. "I plan to enjoy this wedding feast to the fullest today. Alright, you two have a nice chat. I’ll go on ahead and wait outside."
"Okay." Leon watched her leave the room.
Holly handed him the large red envelope.
Leon smiled. "It’s for you. You should keep it. Buy whatever you want."
Only then did Holly say, "Alright then. I’ll hold onto it for now."
The well-wishers who had crowded into the bridal suite gradually filtered out, leaving the young couple alone.
Holly took out her reception dress. Leon helped her remove her white veil and unzipped her wedding gown. The dress slid down and puddled at her feet, and Leon’s eyes took in the sight of Holly standing in her underwear.
He stepped forward, embracing her from behind. "You’re so beautiful today."
Holly shifted shyly. "You... you look very handsome today, too."
His lips brushed against her cheek. "Holly, can I... right now...?"
Holly knew what he meant, and her face flushed crimson. "Leon, we have to go out and make the toasts now."
"It’s okay. I’ll be quick."
He turned, bolted the door, and pressed down on top of her.
.........
By the time the two of them emerged again, Holly had changed into a red evening gown.
The toasting began.
When they got to the last table, Holly froze. Staring at June Walsh, she blurted out, "What are you doing here? I’m sure I didn’t invite you."
"You’re right, you didn’t invite me. But that’s your business. Whether or not I come is my business. Don’t you think my showing up is doing you a huge honor?"
Holly’s heart clenched. She glanced at Leon. ’June Walsh can’t be here just for the food,’ she thought. ’If she were really just here to eat, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but if she’s here to cause trouble...’
The Lynch Family was prominent in the business world, and today’s guests were all influential figures. If June was here to cause a scene, it would definitely damage the Lynch Family’s reputation.
With this in mind, Holly continued with the toasts.
Leon said nothing, finishing the round of toasts with Holly. He figured June Walsh wouldn’t do something so pointlessly destructive. But to his surprise, the moment they turned away, June stood up, holding a battery-powered megaphone.
"HELLO! TESTING! I’m a good friend of today’s bride! Her brother, Keth Wood, knocked me up and now he’s nowhere to be found! Holly’s family is refusing to take responsibility!..."
Leon whirled around, strode over, and snatched the megaphone from her hand. "If you’re here to cause trouble, get out right now! We don’t welcome people with ulterior motives here!"
"I’m going to have my say! I’m desperate! Holly’s parents refuse to admit that the baby I’m carrying is their son’s, and Holly is in on it with them! How can a person like that be the Young Madam of the Lynch Family!"
Leon immediately called for security. The Lynch Family’s guards promptly hauled June Walsh out, dragging her as she struggled.
However, the wedding guests were already whispering amongst themselves. Leon knew that as soon as the banquet ended, this news would be leaked to the media. His first thought was a small pang of relief that Quentin Grant was present.
After a brief discussion among a few of them, Quentin Grant stepped forward to get the situation under control.
Quentin Grant began, "Today is the happy occasion of my son’s godfather and godmother’s wedding. But clearly, Leon still has quite a few admirers. Otherwise, why would this happen? Holly’s brother is only fourteen years old this year. How could he possibly be with a woman so much older than himself? That’s just nonsense, isn’t it? In light of this farce, I’d like to ask everyone to please forget this incident and not let it affect the newlyweds’ special day."
A round of applause followed.
The banquet ended soon after.
Mrs. Lynch, Mr. Lynch, and the newlyweds stood at the entrance to see their guests off.
The moment the last guest had departed, Mrs. Lynch’s expression instantly changed.
She glared at Holly and said coldly, "Back to the house."
The four of them returned to the living room, where Mrs. Lynch immediately demanded, "What is your relationship with that woman who made a scene today?"
Holly began to explain, "We used to be friends, but we had a falling out. She tricked my brother into going to a club called ’Temptation,’ drugged him, and... something happened that shouldn’t have. Now she’s claiming she’s pregnant and that it’s my brother’s child."
"Then where is your brother now?"
"He’s studying abroad..."
Mrs. Lynch snorted heavily. "Studying abroad... Leon sent him, I suppose?"
Holly admitted, "Yes."
"I knew it. A family like yours, practically from the slums, could never afford to send someone to study abroad..."
Holly clenched her fists and gave a strained smile. "Yes."
Leon cut in, "That’s enough, Mom. This has nothing to do with Holly."
"Nothing to do with her? Then why would that woman show up with a megaphone to make a scene? What she said concerns the reputation of our Lynch Family! If the media gets ahold of this, it’ll turn into a scandal we can’t stamp out!"
Mr. Lynch spoke quietly, "I don’t think it will make the news. Quentin Grant intervened. All the guests will grant him that much respect."
"It’s a good thing we invited him..."
"He wouldn’t have come if it weren’t for Nora..."
Mrs. Lynch’s expression soured further. "I never would have thought... That Nora Ainsworth is just too lucky. Landing a man like that... she’s set for the rest of her life."
Leon remained silent for a moment before taking Holly’s hand. "Mom, Holly is your daughter-in-law now. I’m not asking you to treat her like your own daughter. I just hope you’ll think about your own future. I’m your only son, and she’s your only daughter-in-law. When you and Dad get old, you’ll have to rely on Holly to take care of you. When you were in the hospital, wasn’t it Holly who took such good care of you? So, Mom, just treat her as your daughter-in-law. That’s enough. But if you try to bully her, I won’t stand for it."
