"Stop crying! Aren’t you ashamed, making a scene in front of so many colleagues?"

Tyson Law stared impatiently at the girl’s beautiful, pitiable face, his handsome but weary features flashing with disgust.

"Tyson, do you hate Fiona now?"

Fiona Vaughn bit her lip, her eyes ready to overflow with tears.

"Fiona... I just wanted to bring you a late-night snack. I’ve been waiting for you at home, but you never returned. The baby kept kicking me in my belly. The baby misses you too, Tyson. Won’t you listen, just once?"

By now, Fiona understood that the child in her belly was her greatest weapon. She relied on the baby, hoping to win Tyson Law’s sympathy.

But to her surprise, Tyson completely ignored her words. Instead, he stepped back quickly, as if Fiona was carrying some terrifying germ.

"The baby kicked you? Go see a doctor, then. You’re pregnant, what are you doing in the kitchen?"

...

There were still quite a few colleagues eavesdropping outside the office, their whispers faint but distinct.

"At the yacht wedding, didn’t Director Law and his younger brother both deny the gossip about Miss Fiona and Station Director Alden?"

"But look at Second Young Master—he seems furious, like he’s holding something in.

"Exactly... He’s being way too harsh. Also, hasn’t the Second Young Master been working overtime at the company for almost a week since he came back? He hasn’t even returned to The Law Residence. Tsk tsk, could that rumor about Miss Fiona and Station Director Alden be true? Are they getting a divorce?"

"Divorce? That can’t be. If Miss Fiona was really cheating behind the Second Young Master’s back, would Director Law—the shrewd man he is—let his pregnant daughter-in-law into the family home?"

"Who knows... What if the baby actually is the Second Young Master’s?"

...

Humiliated in front of everyone, with all those colleagues openly staring her way, a flush of embarrassment crept over Fiona Vaughn’s pale face.

With tears shimmering in her gorgeous eyes, she walked forward and opened the food box.

"Tyson... I was just worried you’d go hungry, or skip meals and end up with a stomach problem."

"Tyson, please don’t be mad at me anymore, okay? Let me have dinner with you, please? Didn’t you always say you loved cola chicken wings?"

...

Being gazed at with such fragile, pleading eyes, Tyson Law was instinctively moved, almost reaching for her shoulder.

Habit is a scary thing—before Tyson even realized, Fiona’s face had already lit up with joy. She slipped right into his arms and even took the chance to close the office door.

"Tyson! I knew you were always the best to me..."

Fiona Vaughn possessed a rare, striking beauty. When she looked at someone with those big eyes, she seemed like an angel who’d stumbled down to the mortal world.

Looking at Fiona, pouting and crying so sweetly, Tyson Law froze.

—In the past, the moment Fiona started to cry, it would always stir his protective instincts as a man.

Fiona wasn’t like her sister Cecilia—who was stubborn and independent. Instead, she put him first in everything, relying on him, admiring him.

Tyson enjoyed being someone’s hero, loved and looked up to. The two of them grew closer; at first, Fiona used homework as an excuse to ask her sister’s boyfriend for tutoring. Pretty soon, tutoring turned into the two of them ending up in bed together.

It was like fire meeting dry grass—unstoppable.

Back then, they were still in high school. Tyson was just starting to feel curious about girls’ bodies. But Cecilia Vaughn was conservative—she only held hands and rode bikes around campus, insisting they wait for marriage to go further.

Tyson couldn’t help but feel uneasy. People said when a girl truly loved someone, she’d give herself to him.

Cecilia wouldn’t, and didn’t dare cross that line, but Fiona would. It was at the celebration for Tyson and Cecilia winning a speech contest. Fiona secretly opened a bottle of wine for him; as they drank, sparks flew and soon they were undressing each other.

Tyson vaguely remembered that he was half-resistant, half-accepting, but it was Fiona who threw herself into his arms, kissed him, and wept, confessing her love and saying she couldn’t help herself.

—She said, "In love, there’s no such thing as who came first or last, no right or wrong—only whether the feelings are real."

...

After that happened, graduation was coming. That meant Tyson would soon be engaged to Cecilia Vaughn.

Tyson felt so ashamed he couldn’t face Cecilia, nor did he know how to face Fiona.

—He’d slept with his girlfriend’s younger sister before the engagement. How could he live with that?

Fiona, looking frightened and heartbreakingly fragile, lay in his arms, telling him softly that she didn’t care about any official title—she just wanted to love him. That made Tyson feel both guilty and moved.

He didn’t know why, but the day he’d planned to break up with Fiona and give her some compensation, they ended up in bed together—again, lost in confusion.

After the first time, there was a second, and then countless more after that.

Later, when he learned at the engagement party that Cecilia had an affair with Young Master Trent—the son of Stellerton’s former board chair—Tyson’s first reaction wasn’t disbelief. It was relief; he hadn’t wronged Cecilia after all. Then came the rage of being cheated on.

That night, angry and upset, Fiona comforted him, told him not to be mad at her sister, and once again, the two of them ended up in bed when it was supposed to be a night of joy.

By that point, abandoning Cecilia and choosing Fiona was the only logical thing left.

...

Looking back, memory by memory, Tyson Law felt more and more chilled to the bone.

—Only now did he realize the angel he thought he knew was no real angel—she’d schemed, step by step, until he was living entirely within someone else’s plan. How terrifying was that?

Tyson snapped out of it, immediately shoving Fiona Vaughn aside.

"Don’t touch me!"

"Tyson, what’s wrong?!"

Tears gathered in Fiona’s beautiful eyes, her heart filled with panic. Clinging to the desk, her voice was utterly aggrieved.

"I just wanted to bring you your favorite food. Why is that wrong? Tyson, I even burned my hand."

"Cola chicken wings? That’s your favorite dish! I only order them because you like them!"

"Fiona, do you even know me at all..."

Tyson’s eyes brimmed with sarcasm, his face exhausted and bleak.

Fiona’s pitiful expression froze, but she quickly tried to make amends.

"I’m sorry, Tyson. Then tell me what you like. I’ll cook something else for you."

"Forget it!"

Tyson took a deep breath and stared straight into her face.

"Fiona, tell me: three years ago, when your sister was framed and sent to prison, did you have any part in it or not?!"
