Chapter 78: The Dinner Of The Pillars [3]
The silence stretched for a long time until the door opened and the hotel’s waiters and waitresses entered while pushing the carts full of exquisite and expensive meals, drinks, and desserts.
They slowly and carefully put everything on the table and left the room.
With the table now completely covered with plates full of various food, Klaus picked up the glass of wine placed beside his plate and said after raising it above his head, "For the New World."
Marcel, Trenton, and Erick were the next to raise their glasses and repeated the words: "For the New World."
Clyde raised his soon after, and so did Carl and Liliana, leaving only Martin, who had yet to raise his.
Everyone turned their heads to Martin, and he simply stared into Klaus’s eyes for a while. Then he looked at his wine glass, picked it up, and said, "For the New World."
Klaus smiled and said as he picked up the knife and fork placed beside his plate, "Let us commemorate this auspicious day with a good dinner."
The pillars nodded, and Trenton added, "As you wish, my lord."
Everyone in the room looked at him with a single thought.
Is he actually serious, or is he just that good at boot-licking?
Klaus particularly didn’t find his words too odd because his goal was to be the king... starting as a lord didn’t seem too bad for that.
However, he kept his thoughts to himself, and his knife cut through the cooked meat, allowing its cooked insides to be seen, and he pushed it into his mouth with the fork.
The meat fell apart in his mouth as though it had melted, and the juices inside it spurted out and spread throughout his mouth.
He closed his eyes for a moment, and then he mumbled, "It’s good."
Although his voice was calm and not loud at all, everyone in the room heard it and began eating.
For a long while, the sound of knife and fork hitting the plate resounded throughout the room.
Expectedly, Klaus was the first to finish, as most of his meals disappeared within moments.
That alone was a sight to behold and burn into memory.
After finishing, he slid his plate away from himself and leaned back in his chair, glancing at everyone without them noticing.
Marcel and Martin were glaring at each other purely because both of them wanted to be Klaus’s secretary.
The former wanted it for excitement while the latter wanted to make sure Klaus didn’t end up losing himself within these grand dreams.
On the other side, Carl, Erick, and Liliana were immersed in Martin and Marcel’s wordless drama.
Clyde simply ate his meals without even looking at anyone else because he had nothing to do with them, or at least he believed so.
Trenton, meanwhile, was opposite him.
At first, he had been entirely uninterested in anyone but Klaus. However, now he was interested in everyone because they were the pillars who would help Mr. Maker construct the New World.
He turned his head to Clyde and asked, "Mr. Rodgers, how did you end up joining Mr. Maker?"
The question immediately made Clyde the center of attention, and he looked at Trenton with furrowed brows, not liking this even a bit.
A smile appeared on Trenton’s face, and he said, "I joined Mr. Maker because he gave me hope... He promised to help me avenge my wife and myself."
Hearing his words, the other two also remembered what Klaus had done for them, and Clyde spoke instinctively, "Mr. Maker promised me to help me reach the highest I otherwise would never be able to and... he is helping me with my projects."
"I see..." Trenton mumbled and turned to Marcel.
"What about you, Mr. Levy?"
Marcel smiled faintly and answered with an amused glint in his eyes, "I live for excitement, and no one other than Mr. Maker can give me that excitement."
Most found his reason rather lacking or amusing, but Trenton wasn’t one of them.
He found his reason offensive.
’The Maker has blessed this foolish man by allowing him to remain at his side, and he treats it as simple entertainment?’ He inwardly clicked his tongue and prayed for the poor soul.
He wasn’t the one to dislike the ignorant, but ignorance backed by delusion always spewed trouble.
He then turned to Martin, and before he could even ask him anything, Martin said, "Mr. Maker wanted me to be his secretary and the face of his business... I simply want to help him achieve his dream, and that alone is enough."
Trenton’s eyes sparked. He could feel that this person was similar to him and much better than the previous one.
"Of course, of course. If it’s Mr. Maker’s will, who dares stop you from being his secretary?"
"Haha. That’s right."
The others seemed to agree, and Martin turned his head toward Marcel with a smirk on his face.
Marcel responded with a smile, though it didn’t reach his eyes.
Before Trenton could question the next person, Clyde looked at Liliana and asked, "What about you, Ms. Palmer? Why did you join the New World?"
Liliana’s expression changed immediately, and she looked at Klaus.
That alone made everyone believe that it was something personal, and Clyde faintly shook his head.
Liliana was the only one he had a slight interest in because she could be extremely helpful to the task given to him by Klaus.
Seconds passed as Liliana stayed silent and Trenton shifted his gaze to one of the two teenagers.
"What about you, Erick? Why did you join?"
Erick smiled faintly and said, "Mr. Maker promised me something very special."
Carl glanced at Erick.
"Same," he muttered before falling back in his chair.
Trenton clapped once and announced with a wide smile, "Then it appears all of us have a good reason to get on good terms with one another."
Other pillars gave him a deadpan look, and that was how the first dinner of the New World concluded.
