Chapter 58: I Hate Hackers
A few days passed without anything requiring Klaus’s immediate attention
He also kept himself from meeting Elijah because, unlike others, his problem required Klaus to have much more influence and power.
Elijah was the second son of David Demdona and also the second favorite for inheriting the family business.
He was competent and knew how things worked.
However, his elder brother Kirlan had already formed connections with multiple influential businessmen, companies, industries, and so on, making him likely to be the next head of Demdona Group.
The reason why Klaus had chosen Elijah was that he had met him before, and the Demdona Group was a part of the Seven Dragons.
The Seven Dragons were a shadow group that controlled the world’s economy and power from the dark.
However, for now, Klaus didn’t have to worry about them but something else.
Because Trina was preparing the plan, he didn’t have anyone to train with, so he decided to spar with Azdami and the others.
The result was to be expected; however, this time he had allowed them to use blunt weapons, and during the spar, his excitement had made him attack them with their own weapons, and that was how he found out about his tenth daily task.
Similar to the seventh task, which was related to increasing his combat ability, the tenth task was about getting better at using weapons.
Which made all the sense considering he was supposed to fight against mutated monsters.
So now his daily life didn’t just require him to read a book and make connections, but also to train with weapons.
’My life is just getting busier and busier,’ Klaus thought as he sat by his computer and played shooter games overnight. He had stopped sleeping since the dream about the first day of the apocalypse.
"What the fuck?!" He muttered with his eyes as wide as saucers and his hands behind his head. "How the hell did he hit me?! I was behind the boxes!"
He leaned forward and stared at the screen; one of his teammates was still alive, so they could still win the round—
The very next moment, the last teammate died by a headshot through a wall.
Klaus’s brows furrowed upward, and he spat, "A damn hacker! Fuck this shit."
He raised his right hand and slammed it toward the keyboard, but just as his fist was about to land, he stopped and took a deep breath.
"Calm down... calm down... I can just have Carl find this person’s location and have a little chat with him."
He had decided that once he was done setting up Maker Finance, he would go to the locations of the seven calamities and kill them. During that, he would also meet this damned person.
"Just you wait."
With his mind clear and a grin excited for the future, he returned to the game.
The night passed, and just as Klaus finished his breakfast, his untraceable phone began to ring.
He checked the phone, and it was a number he didn’t know. However, he could guess the person behind it.
With a smirk on his face, he picked up the call and spoke into it, "Hello. Who is this?"
’As expected.’
"Ah! Mr. Rodgers, how do you have my number?" Klaus asked even though he was already aware of the answer.
"It was to let them know that I am not a fake," Klaus said, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Clyde said in a humorless tone.
"I don’t either," Klaus mumbled. "Tell me what you want."
Klaus laughed and asked, "Do you think I lack money?"
<...>
Clyde fell silent for a long while, and then he asked,
"I want you to work for me," Klaus stated without any humor or insincerity in his voice.
Clyde asked, his tone heavy.
Clyde was a prideful man, so it was obvious for him to react negatively to Klaus’s words.
"I want you to buy and build for me."
Klaus instinctively shook his head and said, "That’s not what I am trying to say. What I mean is that I want you to do anything in your power to buy what I want and build what I need."
"Even if I want to buy the white house or need to build a military base. I want you to do it for me without any complaints."
Clyde said, completely disregarding his words.
’This guy doesn’t want to give me anything but wants me to give him everything.’
Klaus sighed with an annoyed expression.
"No, even if you did, it doesn’t matter because I am not joking."
<...Be reasonable.> Clyde’s voice also carried faint annoyance now.
’You leave me no choice.’
Clyde’s biggest strength and problem was his pride. Klaus’s previous words about wanting his help had fueled the flame of pride into a wildfire, and now he was going to pour water onto it.
He brought the phone closer to his lips and said in a soft, slow yet serious tone, "Clyde Rodgers. To me, it seems like you value yourself more than you are worth. The current you is nowhere near the person I need for my plans, and the way you are acting, you will never be that person."
"Is that so? Then let me ask you. How much do you think the Terra Real Estate Group values you?"
Klaus snickered, "That’s where you are wrong. What I am desperate for isn’t you but the position I can get you to. But you see... if you cannot be of my help, I can simply make someone who will."
