Chapter 57: Pass The Controller
A few minutes later, Liliana called the legal team of the Global Summit news channel and explained to them what had transpired, with the proof of the incident being on Flinn’s devices.
After about an hour, a team of officers from the Golden City Police Station came to the apartment but found no one except Flinn, who still lay knocked out on the ground.
As they searched the apartment for the said evidence, Klaus drove Liliana to the Global Summit’s building and left the place via a taxi after giving her the card of The Maker, which also included the number of his untraceable phone provided by Carl Snitzer.
As the night drew closer, the taxi stopped before the familiar building of Saitama Performance Center, and Klaus took off his mask, hat, and jacket as he stepped out of the vehicle and walked toward the building.
Klaus glanced at the darkening sky, and a smile appeared on his face. Then he lowered his gaze and looked at the tanned girl standing by the entrance with her hands in the pockets of her jacket and a determined sharpness in her eyes.
’Oh?’ He raised his eyebrow and remarked inwardly, ’She seems different somehow.’
He walked to her, his steps full of confidence and power that he now commanded.
Seeing him, Trina’s lips curled upward, and she said, "You have been quite busy lately."
"I am a busy person after all," he responded and stopped beside her.
A mischievous glint crossed his eyes.
"Why? Missing me already?"
She glanced at him from the corner of her eye and nodded. "Yes. It was much more fun when you were here."
"Heh, I thought you’d deny it like a little shy girl, but guess not." He chuckled.
A vein throbbed at her forehead, and she muttered, "I am not a child. Hmph!"
"You do sound childish, though," he commented, a genuine smile tugging his lips.
She turned to him and leaned forward with her hands on her hips. "I sound childish? Do you even hear yourself? Your dream is to be the king of this world."
She stabbed her finger at his chest and added,
"And you want me, a twenty-one-year-old woman, to learn all the combat arts there are and somehow make one that is better than all of it? Not even a child would think of something so childish!"
He laughed for a few seconds, and once it subsided, he said, "Just say that you aren’t confident."
She frowned. "It’s not about confidence. No matter how talented I am. I cannot master all of them in a single life... It’s simply unachievable."
He rubbed his chin and nodded. "Well, on average, humans live about seventy years, and once they pass forty, they start to lose the talent they once had."
Her frown deepened, and she added somberly, "Yes... no matter how talented I am. I cannot go against my biology... I can’t achieve the dream that I have."
Klaus was genuinely surprised that she was even considering doing that simply because he had asked her.
Ambition. Raw ambition didn’t need to be sane or logical. If everything was to be seen from a cynical lens, all that would be left would be a colorless world made up of white, black, and their shades.
His lips widened into a smile, and he asked softly, "So? Are you planning to give up?"
She shot him a glare and sneered, "Give up? Me?"
She swatted the air before her and added, "I would rather die trying than give up... Haven’t you heard? Most times, the journey matters more than what is at the end of it."
She crossed her arms before her chest and added proudly, "Even if I can’t reach the end, I can still enjoy the journey."
A grin slithered onto her face. "You are also going to pay me for that, so it’s a win-win, no?"
"Haha," he laughed loudly and shook his head.
"Looks like you have decided not to delay chasing that dream any longer," he said.
She lowered her hands and nodded. "I have."
’Should I do it?’ He wondered while looking at her back.
"What are you thinking?" She asked with a curious expression.
’Why the fuck not?’ He grinned inwardly and patted her back before he said, "Have you planned what you are going to do first?"
She gave him a deadpan stare and stated flatly, "Stop patting my back."
"Heh? I am just praising my knight," he retorted with a mischievous grin.
She narrowed her eyes, her face slightly red as she added, "Continue, and I will commit a coup even before serving you."
Klaus humorously moved his hands away from her and said, "My apologies, Dame Frost."
Trina chuckled softly and looked at the night sky as the wind brushed her deep brown bobbed hair to the side.
"Don’t worry about the plan; I have all of it figured out. I just want to know about the people who are going to train me."
"Hmm?" Klaus tilted his head and mumbled, "What are you talking about?"
She turned to him with a dumbfounded expression, "What?"
He frowned and explained, "You are supposed to make the plan and decide the people who are going to train you..."
She furrowed her brows.
"What are you going to do then?"
"I will make sure that no matter who the person is, they will train you." He shrugged.
She let out an exasperated sigh and mumbled, "Alright, I’ll let you know in a few days."
"Good."
She moved a stray lock of hair from her face and then looked at him, more specifically at his bottom. A mischievous glint in his eyes.
"You should go home. It’s getting late," he said as he took a few steps toward the road.
"Good night," she muttered.
"Good ni—"
However, before he could finish, a smack resounded behind him, and Trina bolted away with a wide grin.
’Did she just spank me...?" Klaus was flabbergasted.
"You! Why did you do that again?!" He growled loudly.
Trina looked back at him and shouted, "You like it, don’t you? Haha."
"I don’t!" He rolled his eyes, and the very next instant, a blue screen appeared before him.
[Host, if you do not want to play, then pass the controller.]
He knit his brows together. ’What are you rambling about now?’
