Chapter 68: Coffee Once Again
Klaus grabbed his head with his free hand and tried to think of anything that he could do to stop Marcel Levy from reporting the truth to the police.
Even though he was more than fine with Erick getting punished for what he had done, now wasn’t the time.
To him, humanity’s survival was much more important than Erick’s punishment.
Unable to think of anything, he furrowed his brows and spoke into the phone, "Yes. Did Erick tell you to do anything?"
Klaus frowned and mumbled, "Why would he listen to me?"
"That can be dangerous for the future," Klaus said as he pondered whether he should meet Marcel or not.
’That is true...’ Klaus remarked inwardly.
The Global Government had appointed Marcel Levy as the head of intelligence and had given him the task of getting rid of the seven evils, so there was no question about his competency; however, he was someone that even Klaus couldn’t read.
Those who moved based on curiosity had always been different than the norm. Curiosity, after all, was a vague concept. One day a person could be curious about the sky and the next day about something stupid like how many times a person has to shit for it to measure 1kg.
How was Klaus supposed to read someone like that?
But Marcel was worth the risk. He had already left quite the impression when they had first met, and if Klaus wasn’t as secretive as he was, he wouldn’t have any reason to hide from him.
A deep breath escaped from his lips, and he said, "I’ll take care of this. Just make sure not to do anything stupid."
He hung up the call and stared at his phone in silence for a few seconds before he let out a bitter chuckle.
"Fuck you, Murphy," he mumbled. Only if he hadn’t given that idiotic law nothing like this would have happened.
He picked up his mask and hat and walked out of his house.
While walking toward the main street for a taxi, he called Carl, and as he neared the stop, Carl picked up.
’What’s wrong with him?’ Klaus frowned and asked, "How are you so sure that I want something?"
Klaus fell silent. Carl wasn’t wrong, not at all.
For the past few days, or since forever, Klaus had only called Carl when he needed him to do something.
"Obviously. We aren’t close enough for me to call you for anything that isn’t work," Klaus threw the excuse as though he had long since thought of it.
<...Are you saying that cause you still haven’t gotten me the autograph?>
Klaus’s expression changed as the memories of the call that he had just had with Sarin played in his mind.
To his misfortune, the idol whose autograph Carl wanted was none other than Sarin Kim, so even if he didn’t want to, he would have to meet her one day because he wasn’t the one to break promises.
"I am already trying to get it," he mumbled.
Carl’s voice turned gleeful.
"I need the current location of Marcel Levy."
Carl cut the call, and Klaus waited for the message.
Within three seconds, his phone chimed, and the link to a map displaying Marcel’s location appeared on his phone.
’I will never get used to how fast he is,’ Klaus remarked inwardly and checked the link.
Once he did that, his brows furrowed up, and his expression turned somber.
It was a location he was familiar with.
It was the coffee place from where his plan had taken its first flight.
"How the fuck..." Klaus was utterly speechless.
At that moment, a taxi stopped before him, and he boarded it.
It took the vehicle five minutes to reach the spot, and Klaus could see Marcel sitting in one of the chairs with two cups of coffee before him.
’This guy makes me nervous for no reason,’ he remarked inwardly and stepped out of the taxi.
As he did so, Marcel waved his hand toward him and called out, "Mr. Murrow."
Klaus froze at his spot. ’How did he know it was me when I am wearing a mask and a hat...?’
Marcel pointed at him and added with a smile, his eyes shining with amusement, "I know that’s you, Mr. Murrow. I can never forget those eyes of yours."
’My eyes are literally black! Black pupils are common as hell; what the fuck is this guy talking about?’ He almost blurted out his thoughts.
He walked toward Marcel and took the chair placed before him.
"So you knew I was coming to meet you."
Marcel nodded, a smile still tugging at his lips. "Yes. Mr. Elten told me that you would find me. At first I wasn’t convinced because the only time you two had met was during the questioning at the police station. But I can say that I am surprised."
He moved one of the coffee cups before Klaus and picked up his own, he held the cup loosely enough for Klaus to see the words written on it.
Black coffee.
Marcel was having a cup of black coffee.
Klaus lowered his head and checked his own cup.
"A latte..." he mumbled. It was the same coffee that Sophia Murrow had ordered.
They were the same coffee that they had ordered; the only difference, however, was that this time Klaus had lost.
