Chapter 69: Recruiting Marcel Levy

"Have a taste. I have come to know that this place is quite well known for its coffee," Marcel said as he sipped his own cup.

Klaus stayed silent for a while, and then he asked, "How much do you believe in justice?"

A thoughtful expression appeared on Marcel’s face, and he answered right away, "A lot. I have justly concluded that our world isn’t as exciting as I once thought."

’What the hell is he talking about?’ Klaus frowned behind the mask and said, "You know that’s not what I was asking."

"I thought you would catch the clue that I am not here to talk about justice. To tell you the truth, I do not care about justice at all. Most who enforce and preach about it are criminals themselves, so I would rather be an immoral detective than a peacemaker."

"I see..." Klaus’s eyes sharpened slightly, and he said, "In that case, you gain nothing by reporting Erick to the police."

Marcel leaned comfortably in his chair and shook his head before he took another sip of his black coffee.

"That’s not true. It would be interesting to see what Mr and Mrs. Elten would do once they find out that their supposedly special son is the leader of a criminal organization and the culprit behind his own brother’s disappearance."

"Are you telling me that it is your first time seeing something like this?" Klaus asked flatly.

Marcel chuckled. "Believe me when I say this, but it’s pretty common for someone like me. A slightly bad dish is still better than an empty plate, no?"

"That’s true," Klaus nodded and fell silent for a while as he pondered whether to reveal his strength to him or not.

Klaus was sure that it would attract Marcel’s curiosity, but Marcel wasn’t someone Klaus could read, so he didn’t know what he would do after knowing that.

Seeing his eyes, Marcel guessed that he was thinking and fell silent as he sipped the coffee with a faint smile.

It was really far more exciting than anything he had expected.

Klaus Murrow, the person who had nothing to do with Erick Elten just a few days ago, was all of a sudden before him to stop him from reporting the truth.

He couldn’t help but wonder why he was doing this and how he had reached this point.

A few seconds passed in silence as Klaus finally made his decision and asked in a low yet firm voice, "What if... that slightly bad dish was replaced with something you have never had?"

Marcel’s eyes shone in excitement, and he asked, "And what dish would that—"

Before he could even finish his words, Klaus disappeared from his chair.

Marcel’s smile vanished, and he blinked a few times.

"What...?" He mumbled in disbelief and utter confusion.

Klaus, who was now standing behind his chair, leaned forward and whispered into his ear, "Do you wish to taste this new dish?"

Marcel turned his head to him and frowned upon seeing Klaus standing behind him.

"How did you do that?" He asked with furrowed brows.

"You know what you have to do to find out," Klaus said and smiled behind his mask.

Marcel smiled, and with a look of deep excitement, he mumbled, "Alright. I would not report anything."

Then he shook his head. "No, I would instead help Erick never get caught, but in return I want you to show me everything..."

He fell silent for a few seconds, and then he asked while rubbing the bridge of his nose with a finger, "What do you think about me becoming your secretary?"

’I didn’t expect him to agree so easily. He really is hard to read, Klaus remarked inwardly and said, "I don’t need any secretary. Not yet, at least."

"It is better to have one than none," Marcel stated.

"Why would you even do something like this?" Klaus asked curiously.

Marcel grinned widely and said, "A guy once saved my life and told me to live with excitement, and since then I am doing just that. Maybe with you I would no longer have to deal with when it’s not exciting."

"That is a much shallower reasoning than I had expected," Klaus said.

"I think so myself, yet I cannot help but follow what that person told me to. Almost as if he had enchanted me with his words."

He chuckled at the end and finished his coffee before he moved his hand in front of Klaus and said, "So? What do you think, Mr. Murrow?"

Klaus glanced into Marcel’s eyes and held his hand. "Just don’t get too excited."

"Of course, I may have an unreasonable motivation, but I never do anything half-heartedly."

Both of them smiled and shook their hands.

"Help Erick get out of the trouble he has gotten into, and then you can join my side," Klaus ordered.

Marcel nodded faintly and said, "I think it would be better to release Dustin Elten and have them forget anything."

"Won’t he tell them about Erick then?" Klaus frowned behind his mask.

"I don’t think Erick showed his face to him, and even if he did, I would make sure he doesn’t tell anyone. You don’t have to worry about anything, Mr. Murrow."

"Maker," Klaus interjected.

"Hmm?" Marcel frowned and mumbled, "What?"

"Call me Mr. Maker now."

"Oh... a hidden identity, how exciting," he whispered with a smile and nodded, "As you wish, Mr. Maker."

With those words, the two of them left the place for their respective tasks.

Immediately after, Klaus heaved a sigh of relief and mumbled, "What a weird person."

He boarded a taxi and told the driver to take him to Miracle Law Firm.

The taxi came to a screeching stop before a tall wall separating a tall building from the structures around it.

Klaus stepped out of the taxi and walked toward the entrance gate while smiling behind his mask.

An excited glint in his eyes.

"We finally meet, Victor Frank."
