Chapter 30: Reaching Level 20 After Beating Security Guards
Six days passed, and within that time, the construction of Marker’s Finance had begun; the deal between Sophia Murrow and Klaus was legalised between Sophia and Martin.
The remaining 85% was split among Martin, Carl, and Klaus, giving Martin 35% and Carl and Klaus 25% each, so it was in no way connected to the person called Leo Maker.
Klaus also sold multiple of the stocks that he had bought and effectively multiplied what he had.
*Balance: 215,069$*
Although it wasn’t a small number, it was still far from enough, and currently it was being used for the company.
He had already bought more stocks, which would rise in the coming few days and would provide him with more money.
The whole point of the company was not just to increase their wealth but also their influence. If they managed to earn the trust of the elite class of Golden City, with their connections, they would easily be able to expand to other countries.
Within these six days, Klaus hadn’t done much but train, plan the future with Carl and Martin, and learn more about Trina.
He was now level nineteen, which meant today he could reach level twenty and go through the Third Reformation.
He walked into a building with Martin, and his gaze fell on eight men standing side by side with their hands behind their backs and their eyes locked on the front.
All of them had trained bodies, old scars, and gazes sharpened by hardships. They wore full black from neck to bottom.
"They are the guys?" Klaus asked while pointing at them.
Martin nodded. "What do you think?"
Klaus walked closer and examined them.
Due to his spars with Trina, he could now find out whether someone was trained or not just by looking at them.
’They aren’t bad.’
No shit they aren’t! They are asking 100k for monthly security service; they better be as good as Tike Myson!
He walked further inside the room and asked without looking at them, "Have any of you been in MMA, boxing, wrestling, or any other combat sports?"
The black guy at the center with a buzz cut, cauliflower ears, and a horrifying scar running across his left arm stepped forward and said, "Most of us used to be combat athletes. Needless to say, the professional world didn’t treat us any good."
Klaus turned to look at him and asked, "You are the leader, yes?"
The guy nodded. "I am."
"What’s your name?"
"We prefer to use aliases while working."
"Why?" The corners of Klaus’s lips lifted upward, and he added, "It cannot be that all of you are hiding here after doing something bad, right?"
The instant those words escaped his lips, the mood within the room turned heavy.
A confused yet worried look appeared on Martin’s face, and he asked Klaus, "What are you saying?"
Klaus gazed at Martin, then at the leader of the security company, and said, "This right here is Azdami Oza. About a decade ago, he was hailed as a rising star in MMA, but after the murder of another rising star, he and his group vanished from the face of the planet."
Martin’s face grimmed, and his trembling eyes shifted to Azdami.
"Oza didn’t do it!" Yelled the person standing on Azdami’s left.
"Stephen Brales was their golden boy! We aren’t so stupid that we’d touch him."
Klaus shifted his focus to that person and shrugged. "You have only given me a reason to believe that you all actually did it out of jealousy."
That person fell silent, and everyone in the room turned their gaze to Azdami, who was staring at Klaus.
"What do you want?" Azdami asked.
"Why don’t you tell me what I want?" Klaus said with a smile.
Azdami shook his head. "I don’t know what goes on in the heads of freaks like you."
An offended look appeared on Klaus’s face. "Now you are just hurting my feelings."
"Kal, what the fuck do you want?!" Martin shouted desperately, his legs shaking.
Seeing him, Klaus laughed and said, "I am just thinking that having them join us as just security would be stupid."
The seven of them exchanged looks with one another.
"So here’s my offer: prove to me that you are worthy of being more than just security guards, and in return, I will make sure your past is never able to haunt you."
For a long while, everyone fell silent, and then Azdami Oza asked, "How do we prove ourselves?"
"You made the right choice."
Klaus grinned and waved at Martin. "You can go now. I can take care of this from here."
"B-But..." Martin’s eyes shifted between the eight guards and Klaus, and he gulped nervously.
"Don’t worry," Klaus reassured.
Martin stared at his face for a while, then he turned around and left the building.
Once Martin left, Klaus placed his jacket on the side and said, "Come at me."
"What?"
"Huh?"
"Does he want to die?"
The seven of them looked at one another; however, unlike them, Azdami didn’t wait and rushed at him.
’Exceed all!’ Klaus remarked inwardly, a wide devilish grin on his face.
Azdami circled him, waiting for a chance to leap forward, and all of a sudden, Klaus appeared right before him and threw a punch to his side.
Azdami tried to block it, but the fist was too fast.
The fist landed like a cannon, causing Azdami to stumble back with a pained expression.
The other seven exchanged looks and rushed forward.
Klaus grabbed Azdami and threw him toward them, momentarily breaking their formation, and then he lunged at the guard at the very left.
His punches and kicks cut through the air like blades, his eyes darting around like an eagle.
Each punch was swift and heavy, sending tremors across the guard’s body on impact.
The others tried to gang up on him, but he was just too fast and agile for them. He broke through their formation with his quick legs and attacked the furthest one while evading the others.
Within the next ten minutes, he destroyed eight of them, leaving them breathless and lying on the floor with aching bodies.
Meanwhile, He himself sat in the corner of the room, waiting.
[Host has finished daily training.]
[Host has advanced his combat ability.]
[Host has completed seven daily tasks.]
[Host is leveling up.]
[No environmental mana found. Level up effect has been reduced by 50%.]
[Remaining effect will be reapplied once environmental mana has been detected.]
"Hah!" Klaus’s body arched backward as a sharp current ran through him.
Unlike the second transformation, he felt no heat. Instead, he felt like thousands of needles were flowing through his bloodstream.
All of a sudden, his vision turned unfocused as the biting pain moved from his shuddering body to his head.
’W-What?!’
He gritted his teeth, his nails dug into his palm and drew blood as his body spasmed, veins bulging across it in the pattern of slithering snakes, and his head felt like it was about to explode.
The eight of them looked at him with confused and horrified faces, as to them it looked like he was glaring at them.
’Did we do something wrong?!’
’W-Why is he glaring at us like that...?’
’Are we fucked?’
A sudden calm sensation spread in Klaus’s body, and system screens appeared before him.
[Host has leveled up!]
[The third reformation has been completed.]
[Daily Tasks requirement has been increased to 10.]
He let out a deep breath and clenched his palms.
’It’s not that different from the seco—’
Before he could finish his thought, his phone buzzed loudly.
Furrowing his brows, he took it out and checked the caller’s name.
Unknown
’Carl?’ He wondered and picked up the call.
"Hel—"
"Hello, Mr. Klaus Murrow. I am Henry Frigid, an inspector from the Golden City Police Station. I would like to meet you at the station regarding the disappearance of Dustin Elten."
"Huh?"
