Chapter 50: Having A Chat With The Boss
"Take a guess and tell me which gang would do something like that."
Klaus’s words echoed across the warehouse.
Mercy – Boss of the Milten gang – racked his brain with a worrisome look on his face because he couldn’t think of an answer.
Eddie and Jose stared at him with pale faces, their eyes slowly losing hope.
’Why are these bastards staring at me?!’ Mercy thought nervously.
A few moments passed as Mercy finally came up with a guess and said it, "Scorpio gang."
Eddie and Jose breathed a sigh of relief and turned their heads to
Curiosity rose in Klaus, and he asked further, "There must be a reason you took that name, right?"
"O-Of course," Mercy muttered instantly, a sweat drop rolling down his face.
"Tell me," Klaus commanded.
Similar to the Milten gang, the Scorpio gang was also one of the three gangs controlling the night market.
Mercy wiped the sweat off his forehead with his arm and explained, "Scorpio gang members aren’t from here, and its boss, Blake, is trusted by the Head of the Bruma Syndicate. They have done the syndicate’s dirty work for years."
Klaus furrowed his brow in confusion and asked the question troubling him, "Does the Head of the Bruma Syndicate not trust you and the Boss of the Corals gang?"
Mercy shook his head.
"He does trust us but not as much as Blake."
He chuckled darkly and added, "Our gangs only have this much control because they don’t want the storekeepers to act out."
Listening to his answers didn’t lessen Klaus’s confusion; rather, it increased it multiplefold.
He leaned back in the chair and went through everything that he knew and had just found out.
’Let’s see...’
A few moments later, he met Mercy’s eyes.
Mercy shivered, and Eddie and Jose shivered upon seeing him shiver.
"Aren’t you lot gangsters? Why are you trembling over every little thing?" Klaus asked while frowning in annoyance behind his mask.
The three shifted their gaze to the shattered assault rifle, then to Klaus’s feet, and then to his face.
A vein throbbed at Klaus’s forehead, and he muttered after crossing his arms before his chest, "I didn’t think it would shatter that easily. It must be of bad quality."
’Liar!’ Mercy and the two gang members screamed in their heads, none daring to say it out loud.
"Anyways." He placed his left leg over his right thigh and asked, "How much of the night market do each of you control?"
Eddie and Jose instantly turned their heads to Mercy with curious eyes; they also wanted to know now.
Mercy scratched the back of his neck and mumbled, "We control 25% of it..."
’25%?! That’s a lot!’ Klaus shone with awe and greed. However, he managed to hide it from them.
"What about the other two?"
Mercy’s expression darkened slightly as he responded, "The Corals gang also controls 25%."
Klaus furrowed his brows and muttered in an annoyed tone, "Do you want to die? Why aren’t you saying all of it at the same time?"
’Is this bastard trying to create suspense or something? Bro thinks he is in a TV show or novel.’
He inwardly clicked his tongue.
Mercy frantically shook his head and stammered, "S-Scorpio gang controls the remaining."
’What?!’ Klaus thought.
"Why do they have 50% when we only have 25%?!" Eddie and Jose muttered furiously.
’True,’ Klaus nodded inwardly.
Mercy glared at Eddie and Jose and remarked inwardly, ’Why the fuck are these two acting out? Did they forget that I am the Boss? Once this monster leaves, I’ll make them remember.’
"So your gang and the Corals gang are made up mostly of the people where these storekeepers live, and to make sure they don’t prove troublesome, the Bruma Syndicate gave both of you 25% of the night market while giving the remaining half to the gang that they originally wanted to control this area for them?"
He narrowed his eyes. "Am I wrong?"
Surprised, Mercy blinked his eyes a few times and shook his head. "No, you are absolutely right."
"No wonder they have been able to run wild without much trouble..." Klaus mumbled under his breath.
Mercy and the others frowned, and the former asked, "What do you mean?"
"Have you guys ever been in deep trouble with the police?" Klaus questioned.
The three shook their heads and answered at the same time, "No."
"Yeah, you didn’t because none of the storekeepers ever reported you."
"Why?" Mercy frowned deeply.
Klaus raised a finger and said, "First, giving the money to you is much easier for them because they believe that you won’t do anything too bad."
"Second, because all of this is under the Bruma Syndicate, both the storekeepers and gangs cannot act out because they are aware of each other’s personal life, family, friends, and so on."
Mercy, Eddie, and Jose’s expressions darkened, and they looked at each other, not knowing what to say or think.
Klaus rose from the chair and turned around.
As he had already learned the gang that possibly kidnapped Ryan, it was time to leave.
But just as he was about to take a step, Mercy called out, "Wait!"
Klaus turned to him with raised eyebrows and muttered, "What?"
Mercy stared at Klaus’s face for a few moments before he lowered his head and mumbled, "Please save us!"
Mercy was ignorant, but he wasn’t stupid. He understood that there was one more reason that Klaus hadn’t told them.
It was probably the most important of all three.
The Milten and the Corals gang were being used to make the storekeepers familiar with what to expect when selling at the night market, and over time, the Scorpio gang wouldn’t need their gangs to do that.
The Bruma Syndicate was planning to remove them once that happened.
Mercy couldn’t know whether that was truly the plan, but for the first time, it felt like everything made sense.
Seeing Mercy, Eddie, and Jose also lowered their heads.
Klaus stared at them and remarked inwardly, ’What do I do with these now? Should I refuse?’
