Within the next few hours, Klaus invested most of his money into suitable companies or industries and left the place.
Martin was in charge of company building, security, and employees, so he himself didn’t need to do much. He just had to wait for the time when they could make the big moves.
[How long are you going to waste your time on these petty things?]
He gave the screen a tired look. "Do you really have to ask that right when I’m about to take my first spoonful of this chocolate mint ice cream with chocolate syrup?"
[Why not.]
He took a spoonful of the ice cream and shoved it in his mouth.
"Because it cost me 60$ and I want to eat in peace?"
[You did not even check if it’s edible or not.]
The cool mint and bittersweet chocolate spread across his tongue, and a satisfied smile crept onto his face.
’Others are also eating it.’
[They may have a poison immunity talent or skill.]
"...Are you serious right now, bro?" He mumbled as he leaned on his ice cream cup and began eating it while ignoring the system.
His life was changing too fast, so he had decided to do a few things he always wanted to, but this damn system had an issue with everything that wasn’t related to its task of saving humanity from extinction or making him strong.
[I am just making sure you do not wander too far.]
"You don’t have to worry about that. If I were that stupid, I don’t think your creator would have chosen me as your Host," he mumbled while savouring the ice cream.
[Anyone can make mistakes, including my creator and yours as well.]
’Where did that come from?!’
Klaus’s hand stopped. The spoon halted just an inch away from touching the contents in the cup.
He shrugged. "At least I can ignore what my creators wanted. Can’t say the same for you."
The system fell silent for a long while.
Klaus slowly ate the ice cream, this time without the joy he had before.
He finished the cup in a few minutes and stood up from the chair.
At the same time, a blue screen appeared before him.
[Host, I did not mean to ruin your mood.]
Klaus chuckled and mumbled while walking toward the trash can, "You don’t have to worry about it. I don’t even remember my parents."
He threw the empty cup into the trash can and walked out of the parlour.
Just as he left, the duo of mother and young daughter sitting beside his spot gazed at the doors with a confused expression.
The young girl curiously looked at her mother and said with big eyes while licking the chocolate around her lips, "Mom, that uncle was talking to the air!"
"He must be going through something," said the mother with a wry smile.
The young girl tilted her head and asked innocently, "Is he a retard?"
The mother’s eyes widened and her hands shot to her daughter’s shoulders.
"Where did you learn that word?!" She asked both worriedly and strictly.
Surprised, the girl let out a faint shriek before she answered in a confused tone. "Isn’t that what you call big brother...?"
The mother’s face turned pale. She quickly stood up and glanced around in panic.
"We are leaving."
"But mom..."
Klaus walked out of the parlour and began walking toward the Saitama Performance Center.
The ice cream parlour was near the performance center, so he had left his bike there.
He checked the time on his phone and mumbled, "There’s still half an hour left for Trina to come."
In the end, he had decided to continue training with Trina. His partners were too competent for him to focus all his time on one thing.
As he took a few steps, a water drop fell on him.
"Is it going to rain?" He mumbled and looked upward.
More drops fell, filling the place with chimes and wetting him.
The people around him hurried under the cover while he walked in the rain.
"I don’t think she would come."
The rain got heavy, drenching his hair and clothes within moments.
He walked slowly, almost strolling.
A smile on his face.
He liked rain because it made life easier. Everyone who could judge him was now running around searching for cover, while he was enjoying his life without having to care about anything around him.
It gave him freedom of sorts. But it wasn’t permanent.
Like every rainfall, it would end eventually, and with it, he would once again have to wear the mask that let others see him as a good person.
He didn’t know if he was actually a good person or not.
According to him, what differentiated good and bad was methods.
Methods used to achieve a dream or goal.
"Haah... It’s not that cold." he let out a deep breath and shook his head.
His clothes were now heavy with water and sticking to his body, nearly translucent, but under the veil of raindrops, none could see him.
What was I thinking about? Ah... good or bad... right.
All these years, he had just survived. He might have lived a few times, but that was rare and nearly ignorable.
He did what one would to live, but he hadn’t actually lived if that made sense.
Now he wanted to live. He wanted to achieve his goals no matter how childish or outlandish they were to others.
Only then would he know whether he was a good person or a bad one.
"What are you doing, stupid?"
A familiar voice drifted into his ears.
His eyes widened briefly, and he raised his head to look at the person before him.
Trina stood there. Her wet hair was sticking to her face, and even now, she had her hands in the pockets of her soaked jacket.
"Why are you here...?"
"I saw you while crossing the road."
He blinked and frowned. "You might get a fever."
"Heh." She chuckled. "I don’t want to hear that from you."
She turned around and muttered with red creeping on her face, "Stop roaming around like that."
’What is she talking about?’
He lowered his head and finally noticed that his clothes were clinging to him so tightly that they were appearing see-through.
"I look like a pervert, don’t I?"
"You do."
She mumbled in a humorous tone, and the two moved toward the performance center with quick steps.
"You’re not exactly any better," he said, glancing at her rain-soaked clothes.
Her face turned red for a moment before she turned her head to him, her hair flapping to the side.
She met his eyes. Her ears were already red, but instead of looking away, she stubbornly held his gaze.
"Make sure not to fall for me."
Her tone was demanding yet soft.
Klaus froze at his spot and stared at her with wide eyes. His heart skipped a beat.
She grinned and continued on her steps.
He watched her walk away, and only then did he come to his mind.
"W-Wait! Who are you?! Trina is supposed to be shy!"
