Chapter 36: Was I Kidnapped?
Once Marcel and White Hat left his house, Klaus pulled out his phone and checked who had called him within the past two days.
"Did hell break loose or something?" He mumbled upon seeing that Martin had called him thirty times. Most of which had come yesterday.
That was more than one call every two hours.
He dialed Martin’s number and moved his phone to his ear.
The phone buzzed for a few moments before Martin picked it up, and the instant he did, he shouted furiously,
Klaus felt nothing from his loud voice. Still, he was left confused by the question.
His lips parted to speak, but Martin didn’t let him say a single word.
So... he believes that I got kidnapped? He could’ve checked my house first... though I guess the circumstances did look bad.
Klaus shook his head and got ready to speak, but...
Martin once again cut him off.
Veins bulged on the hand holding the phone, and Klaus spat, "You birdbrain, how the hell am I supposed to speak when you keep cutting me off?!"
"Yeah, it is me."
"Yeah, no one did anything to me, and I was never kidnapped."
"Obviously, I wasn’t, and if I was, I would’ve been dead. Like, what kind of dumb person threatens the kidnappers without knowing anything about them?"
Klaus’s irritation vanished, and a look of understanding appeared on his face.
"Is Carl tracking this call to find out the exact location of the kidnappers?"
Carl muttered after snatching the phone from Martin’s hand.
"If not that, then what were you planning to do?"
Listening to his plan, Klaus fell silent. He could now understand how he had ended up as the fourth evil in the future.
’He is going to give me a lot of headaches in the future,’ he concluded and rubbed his forehead with his fingers with a distressed expression.
"Hand the phone to Martin; I have something I want to ask him."
"First of all, tell me why you thought that I was kidnapped?"
’A note?’
"What about it?" Klaus asked curiously.
Klaus’s hair stood up at the back.
Someone left a note about me at the construction site? How do they even know that I am related to the company? Wait... I do have a 25% share in it, but no one except us four should be aware of that.
Martin’s words instantly pulled his attention back to the call, and he said, "Tell me that name."
"W-What?" Cold sweat covered his back.
"N-Nothing," Klaus mumbled as he turned his head to the side of the sofa Marcel had sat upon.
’What kind of monster did I get entangled with?’
There was a high chance that he had used the note as a method to find out if Martin and others had hidden Klaus from the police. And Martin’s overblown reaction must have told him everything that he needed.
"Martin, I’ll talk to you later."
Klaus cut the call and fell onto the sofa. He stared at the ceiling with a tired expression and mumbled, "System, tell me everything you know about Marcel Levy."
[During the peaceful times, Marcel Levy was a great detective known to be very observant. It is said that he could often deduce a person’s thoughts just by their body language.]
[However, unlike most in the same profession, he didn’t become a detective to catch criminals and bring them to justice; he did it because he found doing so interesting.]
As he had expected, the information related to him was just as superfluous as he was. Still, it was enough to say that he wasn’t someone Klaus should be dealing with during such an important time of his life.
"What about during the apocalypse?"
[In the near future, Marcel Levy will join the Global Government as the intelligence chief, and he will be the one to lead the capture squad against the seven Evils.]
’It’s as if he was destined to become my enemy.’
Klaus couldn’t help but chuckle at the stray thought.
"Do you have any information about his trait?"
[Host, this is the ninth time I am telling you that to know about the traits, you have to get off your ass and awaken yourself.]
"Useless as usual," he mumbled.
It isn’t like I don’t want to awaken. There is simply no way for me to do it.
[Then find the way.]
"Isn’t that your job? You are supposed to support me, but the one thing you do is whine."
[If Host is trying to hurt me, then you should remember that I have no feelings, emotions, or sensations.]
"I find it hard to believe after seeing the way you react every time."
[Host, I cannot expect anything from you.]
’What does that mean?’ Klaus furrowed his brows and pulled out his other phone.
It was time for The Maker to multiply his wealth.
