Chapter 83: Disheartening Revelation
’Sarin is one of the seven Evils?’
Obviously, she wasn’t an Evil yet, but Klaus couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that someone like Sarin could become one of the seven Evils.
However, as he thought about it, he concluded that it was not that far-fetched either.
At the moment, she was on the way to completing her dream and becoming a well-known idol. Then five years later, the apocalypse would come crashing and rob her of everything.
Her peaceful life, her dreams, her friends... that loss would have probably twisted her into becoming a Villain.
After coming to terms with the revelation, he took a deep breath and asked inwardly, ’Which of the seven will she be?’
[The First.]
He read the screen once, then twice, and then a few more times before he let out a baffled, disbelieving chuckle and said, "Ha... ha... nice one, now tell me which one she will actually become?"
Sarin Kim, the First Evil? Like hell he would accept that.
The First Evil was the leader of all Evils and Villains and had the grandiose title of the Queen of Hearts; how could a kind... relatively kind person like Sarin become someone like that?
The system was obviously pulling his leg.
He shook his head and clicked his tongue.
To think his system had now started to play a prank on him; it must have been under some bad influence.
’Which bastard did this to you?’
He had to fix it.
The system said nothing for a while, allowing Klaus to bask in denial as much as he wanted, and after a good five minutes, when a group of students wearing karategi stepped onto the stage to demonstrate their prowess, a blue screen materialised before Klaus’s face.
[Host, I am not playing any pranks. Sarin Kim will be the First Evil, and she will be the founder of the Villain Association.]
His expression hardened.
’How can that be...’
The Sarin he knew wasn’t the kind of person to hurt others for her own benefit... not unless she was provoked in a way, and the system had told him that the seven Evils had given the public enough reason to hate them.
’Are you sure that person is the same Sarin Kim I am thinking about?’ He asked, still finding it hard to believe.
[Host, I cannot make such mistakes even if I wanted to. Please stop denying reality and see the truth. You are already delusional enough.]
He lowered his head and wondered, ’Why would she do that? What can cause her to change that much...’
As the thoughts came to an end, his expression became extremely dark as though shadows themselves were covering his face.
His heartbeat quickened as he let out a shaky breath and asked the system, ’What about me? What was I? A hero? A villain?’
[There has never been any Hero or Villain by the name of "Klaus Murrow."]
[I believe it would be safer to say that Host would not have been able to survive the day of reckoning without me.]
His heart sank instantly, his body went cold, and his lips trembled as he asked, "A-Are you saying that I died on the day of reckoning?"
[It is hard to say for sure because it was nearly impossible to list all of the deaths, but seeing that there were no records of you after the day of reckoning, it would be better to assume that yes, Host had died that day.]
Klaus’s body sank into the chair like a marionette whose strings had been cut, and his eyes became dull.
He who dreamed of changing the world and making something better out of it wasn’t even able to survive the day of reckoning... what right did he have to make such claims?
Why was I chosen by the creator of the system? Did that being think that giving it to me was the only way to save humanity?
A person who hadn’t even been able to save himself was now supposed to save all of humanity.
"Is this a joke?" He mumbled in a broken voice and stared at the student on the platform.
There were three of them, and they had a tower of planks before them.
"Ha!" They let out a noise at the same time as they raised their elbow and brought them down onto the planks.
The elbows cut through each of the planks and struck the frame they were placed onto. Three more students holding thicker planks appeared beside them, and the previous ones spun before throwing a kick at the center of the plank.
The planks fell apart into two parts, and the demonstration continued.
[Host, if you are thinking that you are unworthy of the power that you have gained through me, then you are wrong. You have worked hard to complete the missions and daily tasks; you have sweated for each level up.]
He read that, and a self-deprecating smile appeared on his face.
Even if he told the system that the apocalypse was still five years away before it actually occurred, it wouldn’t believe him and simply call him delusional.
[Host, do not stop dreaming or working toward it.]
A genuine smile appeared on his face, and he said inwardly, ’You think too little of me.’
Yes, he was disheartened by knowing that he had failed to survive, but it didn’t mean that he was going to stop.
It had simply been an attack on his self-esteem, and he had to let it out somehow.
[If I begin thinking more of you, you may actually stop working.]
He rolled his eyes. ’I don’t believe that you will ever do that.’
"A round of applause for the karate demonstration!"
The claps brought his attention back to the stage, and right then, the stage’s LED lights changed.
One half of it turned red, and the other half turned blue.
The announcement voice resounded across the stadium.
"Now! It is time for one of the most awaited events — the female taekwondo tournament!"
