Chapter 89: Moving On
Silence. Utter silence filled the room as Klaus stared down at her.
Sarin had her head lowered, her hands were locked together, and her shoulders were trembling.
For over three minutes, he stayed seated and waited for her to say something, anything.
But she didn’t, leaving him no choice but to stand up from his chair and walk toward the doorway.
As he took a few steps, Sarin said in a low, somber voice, "I did it because I love you."
Klaus halted and looked at her.
She also raised her head and their eyes met.
He nodded and said softly, "I know."
Then he turned his head back toward the door and took a step forward before he added, "But your love suffocates me."
She bit her lower lip; tears threatened to fall from her eyes as she lowered her head and sniffled.
Klaus’s jaw hardened upon hearing that; he clenched his fists, but his feet didn’t stop.
’I cannot tie myself to the past,’ he told himself.
’I have the power to shape the future, and I must see to it. Emotions are shackles when they are allowed to control a ruler. I cannot let them dictate my decisions.’
To be honest, it hurt him more than he had expected.
He had believed that she would get mad, that she would curse him and tell him to go fuck himself before telling him to stay, but not in the slightest had he expected her to start crying.
Perhaps the three years of distance had caused this, but he had already promised himself to accept the consequences of his dreams and ambition.
Love was good. It was euphoric and unforgettable. But to Klaus, it was also a form of dependence. It tied one person’s choices to another person’s existence.
Ambition and dreams were different. They required only the person who carried them and the will to pursue them.
That was why Klaus believed that the latter were the foremost values of any human being.
With a melancholic look on his face, Klaus left the room, and his gaze landed on Trina standing against the wall of the door leading to the back of the stage.
Seeing him, she began walking to him with furrowed brows.
"Did you two finish talking?" She asked while glancing inside.
He nodded slowly. "Yes, we did."
Then he looked at her and said, "You should go in and comfort her. She needs it."
Trina frowned and quickly stepped inside.
He looked inside and let out a tired sigh before his expression once again turned flat, and he said in an uncaring tone, "Hand the autograph to Trina; I will take it from her. Do not disappoint me further."
Trina turned her head to him and looked at him with a confused expression.
The Klaus she knew was a kind person who cared about everyone around him, yet right now he felt so different that she couldn’t tell whether that was actually him or someone wearing his face, voice, and body.
Sarin nodded softly and whispered, "I won’t..."
"Hmm," he mumbled and left the doorway.
Trina glanced at Sarin before she stepped behind her and hugged her.
"What did I do wrong?" Sarin asked in a voice heavy with sorrow.
Trina stayed silent because she didn’t even know what she was talking about.
"Everything that I did was for him, and yet all he cares about is some stupid dreams and ambitions... Why? Am I not enough?" Sarin whispered.
Hearing that, Trina’s face darkened for a few moments before she exhaled and said, "You are enough. But dreams aren’t about others; they are about the person who has them. They don’t require others to leave gaps for us to fill."
Sarin blinked, a confused expression on her face.
A smile appeared on Trina’s face as she remembered Klaus’s supporting her dream.
"No... they are to fill the gaps we have in our own selves. Dreams complete the person."
A sharp glint passed through Sarin’s eyes before she chuckled and looked at Trina’s face.
"Your words make me remember someone very specific. Are you sure you aren’t his feminine clone? Hmm?"
Trina chuckled and tightened her arms around Sarin.
"If I were, then I wouldn’t let you go!"
Sarin smiled and genuinely laughed.
On the other hand, Klaus, who had been listening to them by leaning against the wall, smiled and walked away.
He had come to get Sarin’s autograph for Carl, but it appeared it had to be postponed until Trina’s call.
A few minutes later, he walked past the university’s entrance gate, and his eyes instinctively shifted to where he had parked his bike.
To his disappointment, his bike was still there, which meant he had no one to beat. Not yet at least.
He walked over to his bike and pushed the key into the keyhole before he climbed it and rode it out of the parking lot and then to Maker Finance.
After about ten minutes, he reached his destination.
Construction of the Maker Finance building had finished just two days ago, and it was already being furnished and prepared for work.
They still had about three days for the fabricated rise planned by the big dogs of the stock market world, and they were already ready to make good use of it.
He stared at the completed building with a proud and excited look.
It wasn’t too tall. Just three floors, but it had been designed by an expert who was friends with Martin, and seeing it now, Klaus could vouch for it.
"I cannot wait to turn the world upside down," Klaus mumbled with a grin.
"That much I know," a familiar voice came from behind, and the person stopped on Klaus’s left.
Klaus glanced at the person and said flatly, "How many times do I have to tell you to stop doing this, Marcel?"
Marcel smiled at him and said with a grin, "That makes it much more exciting to do."
